The staff at the Hawthorne were amazing. Everyone was super friendly and it was easy to get around town from the hotel. Great place for a weekend getaway.

Classic charm, and great location. Some outdated decor, small TV. A great hotel for a visit to Salem, a bit pricey for what you get, but a beautiful building and the best location.

The Hawthorne Hotel is a 6 story hotel overlooking the Salem witch museum right in the heart of Salem. It also overlooks the common, where you can see weddings all year round and people enjoying the beauty. There are two restaurants in the Hawthorne, a tavern that serves a lighter fare, and a fancy dining room that serves elegant fare. The staff is great, the rooms are clean, and you can find vending machines on every other floor. The lobby is wonderful, decorated to the hilt, comfortable couches and chairs, there are books for the lending to enjoy and take in the breath taking view. This was my second time visiting the Hawthorne and would go back if I ever need to stay in Salem. One more thing that I want to say is there is a great history for the hotel that you will find quite interesting.

I travel quite a bit and this was by far the worst hotel I've ever been at - and that includes some pretty dingy ones in Africa! The 1 Queen Bed room was smaller than any dorm room I've ever seen, and I work at colleges. That's the smallest room I've ever stayed in for the price they charge. The bed was like sleeping on a door and the room, in late Oct. was freezing! No heat on at all.On top of all that, we were disturbed 3 times in one morning for room service cleaning - when we had the Do Not Disturb sign on the door! They tried to walk in on us even when we yelled 'No thank you!' I couldn't believe it.There was also construction going on next door to us and when we asked that they not work on the wall that was shared with our room just from 9 to noon so we could sleep in, they replied, 'Well, we'll tell the workers but they'll do what they want to.' So during my three nights there I was woken up at 7AM each morning to sound of hammering on the wall. I spoke with the staff there multiple times about it and absolutely nothing was done.We ended up spending less time in that hotel that we normally would just because it was so uncomfortable! The shower curtain broke and dropped in the middle of a shower.Absolutely horrendous. You couldn't pay me to stay a night there again.

I reserved a single room, with two queen beds, at the Hawthorne Hotel and was extremely pleased with what happened. When I spoke with the General Manager, it was an excellent interaction. She was very, very attentive to my needs and took my requests very seriously. Not only were the room keys ready when I checked my guests into the hotel, but they were greeted enthusiastically by the staff and given the best treatment possible. Everything that was done for them was white-glove, perfect treatment. I could not be more pleased.

The decor was lovely and it was clean. The room was so small, it was claustrophobic. Terrible view. Although our room was nicely decorated it was the smallest room we have ever stayed in. Our view overlooked the hotel heating and cooling systems, and the exhaust fans ran at a constant, unsettling hum. Because of this, we could not open the window. And it kept us awake. Based upon the floor plan provided in our room, we had the smallest room on the floor. The hotel had many large functions occurring simultaneously which is difficult to experience a relaxing atmosphere.

This hotel has a very classic look, as it was built in the 1920's. It is located right near the Salem Witch Museum and in a short walk of downtown Salem area. Now I initially had a deluxe room, which was not a deluxe in my opinion. I was told how large and accommodating the room was and it was not. Not to mention I was located next to the elevator and would have had to listen to all persons coming and going. I approached the desk and they upgraded me to a Suite for the night, but the second night I had to pay the full suite rate (minus 10%). They wanted to cancel my bed and breakfast package and refused to let me the keep the complementary breakfast for the second night, as if it really cost them much to allow me to keep the package I was sold. It cost me an extra * for my second night, plus $10 to keep my breakfast voucher. The food and service in the restaurant was really good though. Although, dinner is a little pricey (25-30 a plate) in our opinion. The food and service at the Tavern (the bar inside the hotel) was good and it had a nice atmosphere to it. In my Suite, there is no DVD player, the TVs are small and the remote for the TV in the sitting area did not work. The bed is not very comfortable (as my wife?s back is now sore) and the linins are average Hotel quality (like at the super 8). Over all my stay was okay, I guess, but perhaps I will stay elsewhere if I return.

The Hawthorne Hotel is right in the heart of Salem, so it?s easy to walk around and see the sites. The hotel was clean and the food was very good. The staff was helpful and friendly. The room was extremely small, but it is a historic hotel so it?s to be expected. All in all it was a very nice experience.

Great location for all the sites we wanted to see. Check in time. Great location for the sites to see in Salem. Older hotel but in great shape. Room was clean and comfortable. Food was good.

This is a beautiful old hotel in the middel of Salem, within walking distance of everything. Room was average size but had lots of charm. We did speak to a guest in a single room who said hert room was small. Ours was fine. I would stay again, definitely, can't beat the location.

The Hawthorne is a charming hotel. Don't reserve the economy room however, because it is very small with a very unique shower in a closet. The heating and cooling arrangement in our room was typical of an old hotel, but the windows opened so we were comfortable. Our stay was short so we decided not to try to upgrade our reservation. Other family members reserved standard rooms and remarked on the large amount of space. The staff are friendly and the Tavern Bar is a nice spot to relax.

Location. Shabby room and horrible bathroom. Opened in the 20's this hotel is beautiful when you first enter. The rooms however are another thing, shabby is the best way to describe them and they have an off odor. I think the odor is from the fact there was no ventilation in the bathrooms.

The historic Hawthorne Hotel in Salem is in the heart of the city, within easy walking distance of all the attractions. The staff, decor and rooms were all first rate, as were its restaurants, but the beds were a little hard. I think a hotpot in the rooms so you could have a cup of tea would be a nice addition. They reserved our room for the wrong night, but fixed it when we checked in and upgraded us.

We were delighted with our stay. The room was comfortable and clean, the bar was quiet and reindly, the dining room was excellent. The staff was superb, including finding a missing watch and returning it promptly. We will stay here again!

Food and service people were great. Nothing. In the heart of Salem, available to everything. An excellent hotel for service and food.

This hotel is very historic and has lots of charm. The staff is more than friendly and happy to make recommendations of things to do/see and places to eat. The rooms are very small, so don't expect much, but that only adds to the ambiance of the hotel. It is in a great location and I would definitely stay again if I return to Salem!

It was a great location, close to all the major attractions. It was built in the 1920s and it shows.

Staff. Decor. Some spaces need updating, which seems to be ongoing during our stay; we enjoyed the staff and found all to be friendly and polite.

It was convenient, attractive, well maintained, well serviced, economical and very friendly. They did not allow smoking nor had facilities for such. The front desk was slow but competent. They accepted all major credit cards and were prompt with all amenities. They lack brochures for sight seeing and did not have many recommendations. Parking was a maze as well as the service of handling baggage. There was a great park next to the hotel which gave the youngsters something to do since there were no swimming facilities or game rooms. All in all it was a good hotel.
