The room was very average and the en-suite even less. If you need to go to the loo in the night you risk waking the rest of the hotel because of the creaking floors. The loo seat was broken and if you are a small person, a step up would be handy to use the sink. The dinning room was nice but the menu was very limited for evening dinning, although the breakfast was excellent.

This hotel was wonderful. The family room that we stayed in had a queen bed as well as an separate adjoining area with a bunk bed (ideal for kids). The included breakfast was a superb buffet.

The room was well furnished and chic but considering I spent £130 for the night, I was not very impressed with the size of the room. It was a bit of a squeeze to get around the bottom of the bed and there were no cupboards, only rails to hang clothes on. The bathroom was more like a small en-suite.

A very nice, down-to-earth hotel a short cab ride away from Oxford city centre. If anything, a couple of minor quibbles namely the memory-foam type mattress which I personally didn't find very comfortable and the fact that the hotel doesn't have air conditioning. Would nevertheless recommend and stay there again.

Noisy, below par food and poor service. The hotel had two functions booked on the night we were staying. No mention of this was made prior to our arrival and the s7pm ish until midnight non-stop music directly below our room.At £75 for a Fri night on the edge of oxford we were not expecting 5 star quality or service but did expect a decent nights sleep - a request for a room further away from the noise was met with indifference - to be told there was 2 functions so most of the hotel was affected hardly met our complaint. Don't stay at the weekend - or check if a function is booked.Food was mediocre and certainly not value - pizza express, ask or zizzi are all much better food, service and better value....

it was a little chaotic when we arrived but the welcome was good and we were soon settled into our room. The hotel is in a lovely spot and had a pleasant atmosphere, ideal for a visit to Oxford without being in the centre. We walked into Oxford along the river for the evening and explored Ifley in the morning.

Iffley is a great location. The room was fine but needed redecoration. Breakfast was disappointingGiven its great location, the hotel was rather bland and our room looked tired and in need of redecorating and new (or properly old) furniture. Breakfast was disappointing and we chose not to eat there in the evening after we'd looked at the uninspiring menu. But overall comfortable enough and good value for the price we paid but not the hotel's tariff.

Good if you get it cheap enough!Best part of the stay was the Breakfast which was of excellent quality - the best we've ever had!Worst part was the room we were given on arrival - tatty ground floor room, adjacent to a parking area, which stunk of nicotine and a fag end floating in the loo! Fortunately, after a complaint we were given a non-smoking family room which was very clean and well presented, except for the bathroom - toilet seat was old wooden variety and wouldn't stay up on its own, the angle of the shower head was too big (couldn't be reduced) and sprayed the back of the bath which then went onto the floor; sealant around the edges of the bathroom floor was very amateurish and looked a mess. Rooms were well insulated against noise but inconsiderate people with raised voices in the corridors woke us on two occasions at 2 and 3 am but you can get this anywhere. I would stay again if the price is right (around £70) but would ask for a non smokers room on the second floor. Definitely not worth much more than £70 in my opinion.

decent and relatively good valueA large quiet room but looking a bit tired and the floor had not been well hoovered. At breakfast the staff were extremely helpful and attentive but there were no fired eggs- only those awful mass-produced watery scrambled eggs which are inedible. That spoilt the breakfast. Still, it was a cheap deal and represented relatively good value in a town where it is hard to find economical accommodation. Would stay again.

Oxford BreakThis hotel suited our needs as a welcome break to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a good distance from the Park & Ride facility offered on the outskirts of the town. Oxford was a place my wife had always wanted to visit for the buildings and the history. The receptionist was able to give us good information that we were able to take advantage of for our visit. The room was very nice indeed and the food for breakfast was good. The service and facilities overall were good and would recommend this hotel to friends and family and would happily make a return visit.

Things for improvementwas given a family room to myself. although it had a lovely big bath, it needed a new loo seat in the bathroom. not enough light to see by the mirror for make up.etc. was perfectly clean and ample bedding. food in the restaurant was made to order, so although you had to wait it was worth waiting for. thought they should have had separate dining room for the people with children or have a rule where children are not allowed to be in the main dining room after eight oclock in the evening. there were children running around nearly knocking over the waitresses. screaming when they could not get their own way. standing on chairs that other people have to sit on with decent clothes on. it was a very rainy day so people were quite dressed for this instead of looking decent. saw two people complain about their food, but expected it as they looked the type!! i was determind not to let it spoil my stay but it did. i was woken at 2.30 am by someone obviously locked out of a room and was banging on the door for some time. my room was supposed to be a superior room. paid £85. should have been £190. but was put in a family room because they said it was bigger. did not show me the other superior room which it would have been nice to see even if i had not wanted it. plenty of parking space for my car. helpful staff in as much as they could be. a very sweet little french waitress. i used to live in france so quite liked this. think the staff of the restaurant have a very busy time but are probably not trained well enough. all in all would stay there again as it suited my day of being in oxford.

Short break in OxfordEasy to find. A very comfortable and friendly hotel. Bedroom was a good size with a very comfortable bed. Weather was so awful we decided to eat dinner in the hotel restaurant. Menu had plenty of choice and food was excellent as was breakfast. Would certainly stay there again and recommend to others.

The hotel was excellent value for money - our room was spacious and overlooked the garden and, despite a wedding reception taking place, was very quiet. The staff were welcoming and efficient and breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. The hotel is well located for Oxford and the village of Iffley has an interesting Norman church and access to walks along the canal. We would certainly stay here again.

Hawkwell House Short BreakA very enjoyable and good value 2 night break at Hawkwell House Hotel. The food was excellent and the service very good especially in the restaurant. If I was being picky the size of the room in Elm House could have been a little bigger but it was nicely furnished with a good walk in shower and it was very quiet.

Clean, quiet hotel on outskirts of OxfordWe had an enjoyable stay at this hotel in large gardens in the south of Oxford. Excellent for visiting historic Oxford - 10 min bus service just a 5 min walk away meant no parking problems and environmentally friendly.Spacious, clean room overlooking gardens. Successful conversion of large historic house.Would stay here again. Good value at £65 per night.

OK but .....The hotel has so much potential but doesn't quite get there. The room was in Elm House (the annex). It had thin walls and I could hear the people in the next room chatting (and whatever esle!) until about 2/3 in the morning. The lighting was poor, there was a mirror in the bedroom but it was useless as it was in a dark corner and so you couldn't use it. The bed was just about a double, and the mattress was so soft it was uncomfortable. The staff were firendly and helpful on the whole. Not worth the money they are currently charging, bit it could so easily be made to be better by a bit of careful management.
