My friend and I booked a room at the Hawaiian Monarch last month for business, and really liked staying at this hotel. It was nice, clean, the staff was friendly, and it was close to where we needed to be. It's not a new hotel, and it can be kind of small if you have a large family (just book an ajoining room)but it was a nice place to go to sleep after studying all day. My friend and I have been travelling once a month for the past year now, and have had to find places to stay whenever we come over to Oahu for business. We've stayed in a lot of hotels over the months, and was very happy to have stumbled upon the Hawaiian Monarch Hotel on Orbitz. The price was absolutely fantastic! We were so happy with Hawaiian Monarch, that we decided to book a room for this month. We were pleasantly surprised to find that we had a room reserved for us with a little kitchenette. We didn't expect it! We are very pleased with the Hawaiian Monarch Hotel, and will come back again.

Cheap, not too far of a walk from major attractions, friendly staff. Parking was cheap 12 bucks a day, but the spaces were small and the rooms were uncleanly and small as well. Ok at best. Cheap and thats what you get!

Although - not the greatest location - I was very impressed with the room and security. Cheryl, at the counter, terrific and made me feel welcomed. One flaw - they should provide free ice and fix their ice-maker ... other than that - I was more impressed with place than when I flew back and stayed at another ... well done guys ...

Definitely not the place I would chose in the future if I am interested in any amenities, service,. cordiality, or ambaiance. The hallways reek of filth and are dirty and need a decent paint job. Work continues to be done on some of the floors. The room itself was not bad and I found the bed comfortable, I had a decent view of the canal. Maid forgot to clean the room one day. Shower very small. if I wanted to save and did not have any intentions of having anyone, and I mean anyone, see where I was staying, I might chose again (but only under duress). Not a place for kids, honeymooners, or to take a loved one intending on having a romatic time. Sparse, bare bones comfort. Reminded me of the older hotels way off of downtown Vegas where you can get a fairly cheap room but don't expect much else.

Location is close to many shops and restaurants. Room was small and bathroom sink had very little pressure. The room was small but was a great price for the area. Most of our time was spent outside so it didn't matter. My main complaint was the bathroom sink which had no pressure and only trickled. The location was great and had a convenient parking deck. There was also a nice breakfast/brunch restaurant downstairs that had an amazing salmon omelet.

The location is the reason for staying at Monarch. Don't expect any services or amenities. Just a bed and a bathroom.

Online travel website should never even recommend this hotel for anyone! It should not even be offered by them! travel agency refused to find us another hotel and I have been told that it will take over 30 days to get my refund for the days that we did not stay there ! I will never use an online travel website again!

We were very happy with the hotel except it is getting old and could stand some upgrades especially in the air conditioning unit. The ropom was too full. One king or queen size bed would be better for us. But all in all we were happy.

Pricing was ok, but you would expect to have free parking included rather than having to pay an additional $12 US per day. Wasn't happy about that. Lifts are very slow, which wasn't that great, but overall it was nice to have windows that opened up for fresh air, rather than air conditioning all the time. Very helpful staff at the front desk, which is always great. Especially the lady whose name i cannot remember, who checked us into our room. She was fantastic.

The room was very dirty and dated! We had to clean the room in order to feel comfortable. Stains on the carpet and holes in the walls and ceilings. Bedding and towels hard and old. I would not call this a condo! The people were really nice. I would not recommend anyone staying at this hotel.

the hotel is in progess of face lift but will need continued work. my only complaint is they need new beds! Old and uncomfortable matteresses really was a huge bummer but the panoramic city view was awsome! I would certainly return if they upgraded on all the bedding! overall a good budget hotel for your money.

A place to sleep. The hotel is old, bathroom is small and the shower/tub extremely small with a leaky shower head. The air conditioner was noisy, but eventually got used to it after 5 nights. The room across had a dinner party and the food smell and heat covered our room. We had to turn on the bathroom fan. Pool looked old, dirty and needed upkeep. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. I liked it when we arrived early, 12pm, the room was ready. We did not have to wait till 4pm to check in. Also a well secured hotel elevators and heavy room doors. If you are going to be there less 2-3days, you'll like it. I don't think a weeklong stay will be as comfortable.

The little restaurant in the lobby had an excellent breakfast. I expected a double or queen size bed, but at check in was told only 2 twin size beds were available. This joint is a no star hotel. The room was extremely small. I couldn't roll my carry-on through the door and past the furniture. A/C provided by a window unit. If you like lots of black hair on your clean towels and in the room each day after it's serviced, then this IS the place for you. The elevators and hallways smell like a wet dog. Parking is $14/day cash only. The front desk staff lacked most phone etiquette skills and would usually answer my call by picking up the phone and putting it on the desk without saying anything so I could listen to them chat with their friends for as long as I could take it. Either that or they'd pick it up and hang up. Water pressure in the room was very low, and the temperature was constantly and I do mean constantly varying from cold to scalding hot. Very difficult to shower. Location was good though, right on the edge of Waikiki.

The hotel was sub standard. As walked to my room appeared to be abandoned. Although signs read remodeling in progress it looked like very little was actually being done. I will never stay at this hotel again.

The hotel was poorly cleaned as far as in the room; I found dead flies on the window ledge (inside the hotel, the ceiling fan in the bathroom was disgusting, the lamp shades were dirty and had something on the rims. The bed was very comfortable though so I guess that made up for the disappointment. For it being in Hawaii I was disappointed. The location was good; just a walk to the beach or to many restaurants. The city view was pretty good and was impressed with that. The pool was nice and clean, with lots of lounge chairs around it. Overall it was a nice room just I nit pick at everything. It was very quiet as far as sleeping wise expect when the garbage trucks came around 6am, which woke me up every morning!! The traffic noise was decent, the AC tuned most of it out which was helpful. The AC works amazing!!!

The security measures helped us feel more comfortable. Very old and worn in common areas. The hotel met our needs for a safe and relatively clean place to stay at night for a necessary trip to the city to take care of some appointments. It wasn't a romantic getaway or other relaxing trip so it didn't really matter that the room was really basic.
