Within the local area of Glebe there are also many interesting things to see and do.
Fringed by Blackwattle and Rozelle Bays, Glebe was first settled in the late 1820s. Glebe has retained many of its grand Victorian homes, federation houses and modest worker's cottages.
Modern Glebe is one of the city¿s most attractive villages, with most of the action occurring on Glebe Point Road. Lined with an array of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs, this is a street where students and academics, writers and artists, yuppies, backpackers, lawyers and businessmen all rub shoulders harmoniously.
Walking is the best way to explore Glebe. The area boasts the largest number of 1860-70 workers houses in Australia, interspersed with grand mansions like Lyndhurst, Toxteth Park (now St Scholastica's College). There's also an architectural and cultural surprise - the Sze Yup Temple on Edward Street, testament to early Chinese market gardening in the area.
Shopping:
Glebe is renowned for its diversity of intersting and unusual shops including, clothing, gourmet food shops, art, craft and antique galleries and the Gleebooks bookstores. There are more bookshops on St Johns Road and Bridge Road, and the Broadway Shopping Centre with over 120 stores including major chains and cinemas is open until late. On Saturdays there are also more than 200 stalls to choose from at the Glebe Markets.
Dining:
Glebe Point Road is a great dining precinct with over 60 cafes, restaurants and pub dining rooms here, generally modestly priced and serving cuisines as varied as Nepalese, Italian, Modern Australian and Korean. You'll also find plenty of takeaway
