Description:
Situated on the sunny Kohala Coast, Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel has defined Big Island luxury since its opening in 1994. As the second phase in Rockefeller's creation of Mauna Kea Resort, the hotel property shares 1,839 acres of oceanfront paradise with the legendary Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. Perfectly nestled into the bluffs above the #1-rated Hapuna Beach, the hotel presents a flowing, contemporary Hawaiian style where guests experience the true essence of rejuvenation. A predominant feature of Hapuna is the presence of a series of underground springs. In ancient times, during seasons of heavy rainfall these springs would bubble to the surface creating natural artesian fountains. The resultant streams would provide a source of respite and renewal for travelers along the otherwise dry and barren Kohala Coast. Thus the area was named "Hapuna" or "Spring of Life" in the Hawaiian language. Self parking: $15 + tax per day Valet Parking: $20 + tax per day.(/p>

Beautiful hotel located directly on the beach. Very relaxing. Staff was very friendly. Rooms immaculate and comfortable. We went snorkeling near the hotel and saw fish and turtles. Watch out for the big waves! They can hurt you.

We stayed in an oceanview room in building #5 on our honeymoon in September 2008. The hotel is archictecturally beautiful and provides outstanding open air views of the beach and pool. Access to one of the best beaches in the world. The staff is focused on providing fantastic service that exceeds every expectation. They provided a seemingly neverending ice bucket, continuous fresh towels, and had excellent valet and concierge service. The infinity pool was large and relatively empty when we were there. The restaurant and drinks were very expensive , but in line with everything in the surrounding area. The price for 2 drinks and 2 cheeseburgers was hard to take. We ended up using the business center to mail our souvenirs home.

We were first-time visitors to Hawaii and did an exhaustive search into which island to stay, etc. We knew that the Big Island would be a great choice because we did not want the touristy-feeling and commercial feel of Honolulu. Orbitz had a fantastic package deal with airfare, hotel, and car rental (please note a car is an absolute must to get around, and we brought our own GPS, which was very helpful). We were greeted with fresh juice and hot towels upon check in and were upgraded from a partial ocean view to an ocean view on the 9th floor. The view was breathtaking I have never seen anything like it. We even slept a couple of nights with the sliding doors open. The hotel provides for everything, slippers and a robe, mini-fridge, books about Hawaii, an umbrella everything you could imagine. The location is a bit far from Kona over 30 minutes but we only went there one day to stock up on supplies. Buy your snorkel gear at walmart or bring your own, as the rental fees are high. The snorkeling was phenomenal we saw all kinds of fish and watched a sea turtle grazing on the rocks for almost a whole morning. The waters are calm and blue, the sand is smooth, and there is not a hint of seaweed. Don't expect to find shells, though. The beach is open to the public but we noticed that towards the hotel, only guests lingered. The state park drew most of the crowds. We kept returning to Kings Shops/Queen's MarketPlace for shopping and food - Mauna Lani and Waikoloa Market were a disappointment. One thing that I would have liked to see improved is information on activities near the hotel the hotel staff didn't seem to know much. There is an activity desk but it is an outside company that will try to get you to go on their day trips. The activities staff was helpful, though still, do your research and have an idea of where you want to go. All in all, we couldn't be more pleased with our experience here it was a restful and rejuvenating vacation. We will definit

Nice views. Room was dingy and several mechanical things were broken. Overall a nice hotel, our room needed general maintence in a bad way, AC unit was broken, some lights were in operable, doors stuck and generally were in need of adjustment.

This was our 6th stay at the Hapuna Beach Prince, and was as good as all the others. The hotel isn't as ornate or flashy as some of the other Kohala hotels, but it suits our style. The staff are friendly and helpful and the beach is one of the best in the world. The restaurants all have good food. We missed being able to eat at Hakone; the Japanese restaurant has closed due to current economic conditions. The hotel is located in the midst of the Kohala district, so going to other resorts for meals or to swim is an easy drive. We walked to the luau at the neighboring Mauna Kea.

Fabulous meal at the Coast Grille. I paid $95 for breakfast for three! Beautiful hotel on a spectacular beach. We had no view from the room, but who cares? It was nice to be pampered and relax for a few days at the start of our vacation. A dip in the pool at sunset listening to the singing, guitar from the lounge and the sound of the ocean, a leisurely meal with excellent, friendly service. Plumeria and fresh fruit.

The service from everyone was great. The rooms were a little outdated, but they are kept very clean with housekeeping twice a day. The food was awesome and you can't beat the views. The beach was wonderful, get there early to get a chair and umbrella. We saw lots of fish snorkeling and several turtles! We would stay again and recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet relaxing getaway.

The staff was the friendliest, without exception, in all of the 35 years my wife and I have taken vacations. The food was excellent, and even with someone occupying the room next to ours all week (more than one couple) it was extremely quiet. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the food, and food service, was first rate.

Nice open spaces for common areas, lending library, andcomfortable rooms. Slightly run-down, overpriced food. The rooms are comfortable and most have a nice screen door at the entrance so that you can have a cross-breeze in place of the AC. Situated on a beautiful beach, as well. Unfortunately, the food is over-priced and the hotel feels like it hasn't changed in the 15 years since it was built, which gives it a somewhat worn feeling. Also, this hotel is in the middle of nowhere - convenient to island travel, but no so easy to find restaurant alternatives.

I have always gone to the Big Island to chill. Hapuna Beach has always been a favorite spot. Since the hotel was built I have been curious about it. The place pretty much exceeded my expectations and gave me several perfect days. For me it's pretty much all about the location. It's a pretty long drive into Kona and there can actually be traffic so if you are looking for a family vacation with tons of activities, this is not for you. It's actually a good location on the Big Island to tour from if you rent a car. 1.5 hours to Hilo, passing incredible scenery makes a great day trip. Get adventurous and add a trip to Volcano Park, although you might want to make that a stay over, driving back by the Southern route. There are not a lot of food choices at the hotel and expect to pay $$$. But the food is good. Plenty of food choices nearby in Waimea or Kona if yuo wnat to take the drive. Get an Ocean View Room. It's all about Hapuna here, folks. Not enough words in this review. The pool is awesome as well. It is a huge "infinity" pool with a view of the ocean. You can also walk along the Shoreline Trail to the Mauna Kea (or drive there) and their incredible beach. All amenities are shared. The staff was perfect. Very friendly, accomodating, and unobtrusive. You can't ask for more. Try the Reef Lounge at sunset while a Hawaiian trio play for a world-class sunset and you sip your favorite drink with the sound of the surf in the background. It's winter and it's 78 degrees.

Fabulous beach location, most rooms with ocean view. Outdated furnishings, sub-par bedding. We were very pleased with the Hapuna Prince, from its incredible location overlooking Hapuna Beach, to its pool and oceanside restaurant. Although the furnishings and certain other amenities seem outdated, it remains a fabulous resort hotel.

Location is beautiful, one one of the best beaches on the island. Ocean view room was wonderful. Very quiet relaxing atmosphere. Service was impeccable. Dining options, however, were disappointing - very overpriced for what you got. This was the only negative but will not keep me from going back.

This is probably the best combination of incredible beach with good hotel you can find in all of Hawaii. We can't say enough about how convenient having a room at a world class hotel a mere steps from one of the best beaches in the world is. Don't hesitate for one minute about this hotel and also go for the beachfront if it isn't that much more. The only drawback is that the hotel was so empty that some of the facilities (restaurants, etc.) are closed.

Located on the most beautiful beach. Beautiful hotel, room we stayed in a little worn with mildew/mold in shower grout, garden view room left something to be desired, grass and shrubs (one half brown) outside lanai except for one, staff very friendly and helpful. One even cut up a mango that my son had bought, arranged it on a plate and topped it with an orchid!

The Hapuna Beach Resort is on a beautiful beach isolated on the Kohala coast. This makes for a fantastic beach/water experience but not much in the way of dining choices. We arrived before the room was ready (2:30) so we thought we would have lunch. No resturants open, nothing available other than a pre-packaged sandwich shop. Once we got into our room we found it very nice, double sinks and tub and seperate shower made for quick mornings. Some peeling wallpaper and such but mostly a very nice room with nice ocean/pool view. Breakfast room service was wonderful. Very helpful staff and quality food. Dinner at the steakhouse at the hotel was OK but indifferent wait staff and no tablecloth for a $* dinner for two was not as nice as it could be. Be sure to rent a car and get around. Kona (30 min) has lots of places to eat. Overall a very nice place to get away and relax. We are planning our return now!

I took my wife for our one year wedding anniversary and just got back today. We had a wonderful time - the food at the hotel is terrific as is all of the food in the area. Volcanoes National Park is a must. Mauna Kea Observatory was really cool. We enjoyed all of the beaches, the luau's, waterfalls, horseback riding, snorkeling, etc.. The staff at the Hapuna Prince and Mauna Kea resorts are top notch. We would definitely go back to Hapuna Prince again.

The best Priceline deal I have ever received. This was one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed at. The staff was amazing and always used my last name when talking to me.
