I was very happy with my accomodations. The room was big and had a balcony facing the pool. The room was crisp and clean and service was excellent. They even brought me a cork screw for my wine. I had room service for breakfast one morning and it was excellent. Love the potatoes with garlic and onions!

Clean & affordable. Neither of us smoke, nor do any member of our family. Nonetheless, the odor of smoke was obvious in our vehicle when we recovered it, and in addition, we found a cigarette butt on the floor of our back seat. That was unacceptable.

This was a wonderful hotel! We stayed in the historical section of the hotel and it was beautiful. We were offered an upgrade to the more modern side of the hotel, but, were so glad we stayed where we were. Apparently, the hotel was rennovated and an older and newer hotel were joined together to make one hotel. The rooms were exceptionally clean, spacious, and wonderfully historic. There is a busy bar and grill attached to the hotel, the Warf is about a $9.00 taxi drive away, and, the hotel is in the heart of San Francisco's shoping and art gallery district. There are little cafes and deli's everywhere you look and the gateway to China town is about 5 blocks away. I am definitely planning to visit this hotel again!

Great location about a half block from Union Square. Remodeled historic hotel with lots more charm than you'd ever find in a typical chain hotel. Staff was efficient and helpful.

A very good hotel in an excellent location. Located a block or two from Union Square, Powell, and Market Streets. The staff is very friendly and room and maid service were very good. The room we were assigned was an end unit in the old wing and was very small. The room was very clean and was furnished with a number of amenities which included a small refrigerator which was an unexpected convenience. The bathroom was very small but adequate for our needs. We could only view an outside wall from our window. We suspect we were given this room because we booked it as a air/hotel package deal for a great price. The outside noise level was satisfactory. One complaint was the poor reception of the wireless internet which kept dropping it's signal and required numerous restarts. A call to the front desk did not satisfactorily resolve this issue. The great location of the Handlery made up for a few shortcomings as restaurants, transportation, and shopping are all within easy walking distance. We have stayed at the Handlery on previous visits and would recommend it to our friends and others. Overall we had an enjoyable experience at this hotel.

A nice hotel in a perfect location for shopping, the cable car and the central area of the city. The area appears to be safe even after dark. Good restraunt.

4 day stay. Hotel is in a great location close to everything, one needs to get anywhere! Friendly staff, good food in the Daily Grill. But cleanliness in the rooms is a concern. Furniture is very dusty in places, window treatments haven't been dusted in months...Not to mention the hairs on the bathroom floor upon arrival, that obviously weren't mine!! Furthermore, the same hairs were there for the 4 days, explaining that they never mopped the bathroom floor the whole time. But as mentioned a great location and would surely return for another visit.

Handlery was clean, nicely furnished (looked like new paint, furniture, linens, drapery etc. Lots of people from all over the world there with us. Friendly and interesting elevator riding. We LOVED the Handlery. It's location was perfect for us. We felt safe walking from early morning to returning after midnight. Only 50 steps to Powell St. cablecars. Short walking distance to Market St. to ride electric streetcars to the Embarcadero and then all the way to the Castro. Easy walk to the SFMOMA and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts where we saw a fun musical (across street). A hotel with a pool -- my husband enjoyed cooling off and relaxing. The Handlery is 75 steps to Union Square -- a lovely stop to sit and people watch or just relax with coffee and pastry -- even light dinner fare. Across street from USq. is Cheesecake Factory -- I know, we've all been there before... BUT what a surprise on a night we wanted a dessert and drink... factory is on roof with terrace/heat lamps seating with lovely view. Concierge was very helpful with directions and assistance arranging tours and airport shuttle. Other staff members were equally helpful, friendly, and welcoming each night as we returned from our daily adventures!!!

Our experience at the hotel was wonderful. We were able to have a quiet room (which is a plus being near a busy road like Market St.). The staff were very helpfull and the location was great! You are near the union square, which allows you to catch the bus, or trolley car anywhere in the city. Can't wait to go back to SF! As the song says we 'left our heart in SF'!

good location but hotel has very small rooms but clean, a little tired looking but still clean, the housekeepers manager to hoover the room without picking anything up! clever person. Near all sights and tour pickups. Staff not bad but bit misserable.

Hotel room was tiny and we had a view of a wall outside our window. Someone had clearly knocked holes in the wall and they had been spakled over however were not painted so there were big white splotches on the sand color walls. I would say that if it were not for the service and the location, I would not stay at the hotel again. Overall the place was drab and it looked as if the management company did not bother too keep it up outside of of the usual cleaning.

This hotel was great and the location was excellent. We were in the middle of downtown and all of the shopping. It was a small hotel, very clean, but the service was great. I highly recommnend it to anyone!!

We were close to the shopping and dining areas. We came across a broken coffee maker with a piece of hair in it, TV was old fashion, didn't like the shower and the curtain. The water leaked out to the floor. Bed was comforting. Wished the elevator to the parking garage on one end connects to the other end. We had to get on the garage side of the elevator, then walked down one floor to get to the other side of the hotel's elevator, and then to our room. The staffs were friendly and the lobby was nice.

The decor is a little dated and the room a little small by international standards. However, the room was clean with plenty of storage space and a Keylock Safe. The Concierge was a mine of information and very pleasant to deal with. We would definitely stay again. Great location near Macy's.

We stayed at the Handlery while on a short 5-day vacation..two adults. We chose this hotel because of the convenient location to the downtown area. The room was clean, but small. One of us had to sit on the bed when the other wanted to move around. There were two very small chairs dirty. We chose not to use them. The internet hook-up was appreciated. Our room was cleaned late in the day, so when we came back after breakfast, shopping etc, our beds were still unmade. But, eventually the room was cleaned, and cleaned well. It is a quiet hotel, and the rooms are off the busy, noisy, street, Powell St. We would stay there again, but might think of upgrading our roo, however, we felt like we were paying plenty for what we hoped was a nice room.
