Last time I was at the Handlery, noisy workers with bullhorns and drums marched around all afternoon. It was not a pleasant environment. Apparently workers have been working without a contract for months and claim this labor dispute will probably continue for a long time. I would not stay here until they clear up these issues because it was not a fun or relaxing place to be.

I probably should have read more about the hotel before booking, but it was a last minute trip & I just went for the best price and location. We had some stuff to do around Mission/Fashion Valley & also planned a trip to Sea World. The location was great, but there were plenty of other better hotels around. I just assumed that there would be elevators, but the hotel is pretty old & only 2 stories on each building. Had to carry luggage, stroller & child up the stairs which was a little difficult. Bathroom was the best thing about the room. Smelled weird & our socks were dirty from walking around on the carpet. Had to pay for parking - $12/night. Staff was nice though. We probably won't stay here again.

We loved the location of this hotel because it was so close to San Diego Zoo, to Seaworld and to the mall. The shuttle to the zoo and to seaworld was a plus.

The only positive thing about this hotel was that the room was clean and didn't smell. Everything else was horrible! We paid for a King pool view room and upon check in was told that all the King rooms were booked and that my boyfriend and I would have to spend our Valentine's weekend in a room with two "full" beds!! We were told there were NO available King rooms anywhere in the hotel and we would just have to make do with two full beds! When I asked to speak to a manager and informed the girl at the front desk that I would be calling online travel website she instantly changed her attitude and said that a King room had opened up in their fourth building clear in the back! The room was VERY small for the price and the heater didn't work! At check out they wanted to charge us $30 for parking even thought the paper we signed at check in stated the parking charge was included in the price we paid! WOULD NOT STAY AGAIN!!!!

I was visiting family who lived in the area, so I was more there just for a place to sleep. My room was at the top of the stairs and right next to a meeting room which made it a noisy choice my first evening.

For the price, it was an extremely good. Nothing. The hotel is almost right next to Fashion Valley Mall, five minutes from the Mission Valley Mall, fifteen minutes from the Zoo, and about forty five minutes from the Wild Animal Park. It's clean, friendly and very cheap for its quality.

I was in town for five days to attend my daughter's graduation. I booked the flight and hotel well in advance. I asked for two full-sized beds; my brother (who also went) asked for a king. He did not get his king. It took the hotel staff six tries -- with me going back and forth multiple times to get new keys -- to get me a hotel room key that open the door more than once. My brother's room key stopped working after day 3 and he had to have his replaced. Parking -- for guests -- is $12/day. They have a secured parking lot. The lot is so secure that it would not let us in or out of the lot one any of the days we were there. We had to stop, call for help from the security staff to get the gate opened so we could leave or return every single day.

It was clean, atmosphere in pool area was great, and location was good. Very clean. I would stay there again. Restaurant is a little pricy, could change the menu a little, not much of a variety.

My recent stay at San Diego's Handlery Hotel/resort was one the worst hotel experinces i have ever had! First of all, the property does not look anything like its pictures or description on the website! They lead you to believe this hotel to be like a spa/resort type of stay with tropical settings....it is nothing like that! It is an older property which has been kept relatively clean, but lots of renovations still need to be done to it The rooms are older and bathrooms small but at least they keep them clean. some renovations have been done to them but not enough. the only satifactory thing about my stay was the maid service. I guess it is an OK stay for families with lots of kids and conventions but if you're a solo businessman seeking peace & quiet after a long day's work DO NOT STAY HERE. Extremely NOISY! Walls are paper thin, they put me next to a room of some rowdy party crowd who kept all the other guests up till 3 am in the morning. i t took so many calls to the front desk and finally it took hotel security & Police to shut them up....13 people crammed in the room next to mine partying all night....There is no elevators, no bellman on duty at night if you check in so good luck hauling your heavy luggage upstairs to your room.

Excellent hotel and the people that worked there were helpful and friendly. The pool area is phenomenal. Best pool I have even been in. Also has a nice secure parking area.

Nice and worth the price. For being a private operated hotel, it was nice and worth the price. I will definitely considering staying there again.

First off, it states in the online travel website that this hotel is only 2 miles from the San Diego airport and actually its 8 miles. It was a very expensive cab ride. Then we had to wait for someone to be summond to check us in. After we checked in, we were shown the way to the staircase for us to carry our heavy bags up to our room (husband has shoulder problems, which made this very painful to do). They should let you know that they do not have an elevator, and they should offer you assistance in case you need it. The room smelled, had only a 19" tv and a really bad channel selection..This is not by any way a 3.5 star hotel. Positive note: The bed was comfortable.

Staff was willing to assist in any way that they could. Older hotel, bathroom was extremely small. The overall appearance of the hotel was satisfactory. Staff did provide quality customer service.

Very nice hotel in a very convenient location for my purposes. The front desk personnel were very helpful and always willing to answer questions that I had. I arrived early so I had to wait for a room to be cleaned and readied for use. My room overlooked the large pool area with an upper unit so the view was nice. As for issues at the hotel, the pool noise in the evening was a bit much and the music being played outside by the pool was a bit loud (could hear over the TV). As for the restaurant and bar, the restaurant hours were not what was advertised and the prices were a bit steep. I ended up eating at a family restaurant across the freeway that had more choices on the menu and better prices. The bar was nice but the price for a bottle of beer was a bit to high (5 dollars) but the staff was very attentive and professional. The only real major issue that I had problems with was the on-site parking. Not only were hotel guests parking in the lot, but the lot was open to the public for parking for a fee. My parking was included in the price of the hotel stay but using the parking system was a real pain. When you arrived and parked in the lot, you obtained a ticket that you took to the front desk to be validated. When I tried to get back in using the validated ticket, the system did not recognize the ticket so I had to get another one and have it validated at the front desk. This was the procedure my entire stay. This parking system needs changing or repaired to working order.

The location was perfect right off the interstate and easy access to everything. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The rooms were a good size and clean, the only thing needed is a bigger TV Set. We will definately stay there again.

Friendly staff, helpful. $12 daily parking fee, small TV, pay-per min internet. Outdated facility that probably was a buzz in the late 70's early 80's. Upon arrival we found there was a piece of dog/ human feces on the patio next to our room that we had to ask to be removed. The room temperature was set at 68 degrees and would not go any lower. $12/ night parking takes full advantage of guests. Overall probably right for about $55 night, the resort title is quite misleading.

We stayed for 2 nights, Dec 26 & 27, 2008. Our stay was very good. This is a very nice hotel - clean, safe and accomodating. Free parking was kind of strange but we did not have any problems with it when checking out. Our heater did not work in room the first night, put out cold air and we were freezing, had to sleep in sweats, blankets and comforter covering us. Next morning called front desk and they were right there to fix, we were toasty within the hour with no more problems after that. It was our fault for not calling the front desk to make them aware of it sooner, we were informed by front desk receptionist and the engineer who came to our room to fix heater that there services are 24 / 7 to please not hesitate to call them. Good to know. We will stay here again.
