On October 3rd, 1930, an independent oil man named Columbus "Dad" Joiner struck oil on a plot of land near Kilgore, Texas, transforming the peaceful farming community into a bustling boom town almost overnight. As the oil boom subsided, the area that now surrounds our Kilgore hotel evolved into a quiet east Texas town that takes pride in its history, and welcomes you to visit and celebrate what's happening in east Texas today, including a world-class Shakespeare festival, a world-famous college drill team and perhaps the only place in the world where you're guaranteed a white Christmas.
