My wife & I enjoyed our 2 day stay very much. Okay, as reviews state, rooms are very small, ours with no view but it had to most powerful hot shower that we ever took. Manager helped me out with a problem with the parking garage people. Front desk personnel very helpful with advice on where to eat and for maps & directions. Would stay there again.

Excellent staff, very friendly and reasonably priced. Accomodations are adaquate but small, which is not uncommon in a large city. However, very good location to street cars, shopping, dining and transportation to anywhere you would want to go. The worst part was a lot of street noise between 10pm and midnight with garbage pick-up, etc. Most restaurants and other activities in Chinatown close at 9 or 9:30pm. After that, it is rather dead and will need to go to another part of town for any nightlife.

Location. Old. Old but nice. Did not like the idea that I had to pay 25 cents for a bucket of ice and no coffee.

I was disappointed the description located this hotel in Union Square are, and although not far from it, it is really located beyond the dragon gate of China Town. I decided to stay because the room was clean and and the front desk personnel were helpful and did not push any outside service at all -they answered and helped with what was asked- no more, no less. Next time I will try to stay at a different place. If you need a conveniently located, inexpensive place, and plan to use the room just to sleep, I can recommend this place for you.

First off when u walk into the hotel it smelt like mildew throughout the lobby. We were placed in a room that was smaller than my closet. The hotel was under construction from the 2nd to 4th Floor and the whole hallways were torn apart. We had to shimmy through the tiny hallway to our room passing ladders, beds, railings, and shopvacs placed on the side of one wall on the floor. Then we had to hold our breathe from the fumes from the oil base paint, not to mention listen to the hammering and echo through the walls of the paint spray guns. The smell was HORRIBLE! Once in our room the carpet was dirty and didnt even meet the tile into the bathroom. I immediately opened the windows (which had no screens and were wastehigh on the 5th floor) in order to get some fresh air. When I contacted travel website because they are suppose to inform u of any construction going on in the building prior to arriving, they said, "let me get a supervisor for u" and left me on hold till my cell phone died. There was never another response from them and no attempt was ever made to make things better for us. We had no where else to go and were stuck in this hotel. Literally we slept and left til it was time to sleep again. It ruined my whole vacation I couldnt wait to go home!

I stayed here for one night when I was doing a quick overnight in San Francisco. I've been to the city before but I'd never stayed in the Chinatown/Financial District before. The room while small was clean and had all the amenities that as a single vacationer I could need. The bed was comfortable and the shower had great water pressure.

I was staying at this hotel with my wife as a short vacation, the location was nice, but I would NEVER stay here again. Many reasons. First most annoying thing was the front desk guy which was an older man. He CONSTANTLY "encouraged" us to go on these DARN TOURS and tries to sell us a shuttle to arrive back at the airport. Our vacation has barely even started and we were being pushed for these services which we didnt even need. The rest of the staff were helpful except for one lousy individual I have mentioned above. Second was the old rooms, Our room was very tiny and uncomfortable, we had mentioned that to the front desk man who tried to sell us the services, and he did not care a single bit to even speak to us after we denied his "encouraged" tours. What bad service. Would NEVER recommend to anyone. Stay clear of this place, bad service, bad rooms.

This hotel is in a really convenient location. It is in china town, about 1 block inside the gate, but very convenient to everything. There is a trolly stop about a block away that goes right to the wharf. It's a short walk to union square, and a few blocks the other way to little italy. The best part of San Francisco is enjoying the different neighborhoods, so this was a really great place to stay. One morning we even walked all the way to fisherman's wharf. It only took about 30 minutes at a leisurely pace. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The lobby is nicely decorated. Our room was another story though. The furnishings are very outdated. The room was very small, maybe 10 by 15 feet. The bathroom was equally small with a toilet, a tiny sink, and a small stand up shower. The only window faced into the tiny courtyard, so no view at all. The room itself was less than I expected, but for the amount of time we spent in there it wasn't really a problem. Overall, we were quite pleased with our stay. A bonus to staying in china town is that you can get all of your souvenirs right by your hotel at a bargain price compared to the gift shops by the pier.

Problem smell with sewer system or bird contamination. Had to use fan to get clean air in. I got sick with Flu. Noise problem with people staying there. Possible criminal activity or prostitution going on. A lot of screaming and running around every night. The walls are paper thin and you can hear a whisper in any direction. People smoking in hallways. I would not bring a girlfriend or wife there! A ruff place. :(

The hotel was conveniently location close to the downtown area. The room was very small. There was a very bad smell, as if the room was recently painted.

GREAT location, frinedly staff, clean room. if you are visiting SF and plan to stay in the room (wht visit then?) DON'T stay in this hotel. room is small, but when visiting and staying in room just to rest, this hotel is great. 1 block from cable car, 4 block from MUNI (undergound transportation), interesting neighborhood, 1 block from great shopping. definitely would stay again, unless i wanted not to go out and enjoy the city.

I had high expectations for this hotel based on its reviews and photos on the internet. However, when I arrived in SF, I found that my room was nothing like what was represented. Our room looked out into an enclosed alley which was dark and dirty. The room, while clean, had peeling paint, stains from leaking water, loose electrical outlets, and uncomfortable beds. There is no A/C (which we didn't need anyway) but there was also no way to conrol the heat in the room when it got cold. The TV remote didn't work, either. We stayed in a two-twin bed room, and it was VERY tiny. There were no amentities to speak of, although I wasn't expecting much for the reasonable room rate. Staff was courteous, but not overly helpful. If you must stay in the heart of Chinatown, then I guess this hotel is okay...but I wouldn't recommend it for more than a one-night pit stop.

Really great location about five blocks from BART. One block from cable cars. Middle of all the action! The rooms were cozy!

The staff was friendly! The Convention brought early risers. The staff was friendly and helpful, close to attractions and downtown, we used the hotel as a base camp for movement between the different San Francisco districts. The hotel is off major streets and Chinatown shuts down during the nights. Overall great for the price!

Small rooms with poor noise isolation from neighbouring rooms. Very good location near the entrace to Chinatown and within walking distance of many good restaurants. Convenient access to public transport.

we arrived late at night and if it had been earlier I think we would have just found another room. The staff was friendly and helpful but the room was tiny, run down, loud and view of concrete barrier with barbed wire.We have traveled in Europe so small. old and loud are really ok with us but the bathroom was filthy. There was hair all over the sink, toilet, shower and floor and the floor appeared never to have been cleaned. We had a great time in spite of it, they had no other rooms available. The location was great but we would not stay there again nor would we recommend it to anyone.
