Description: Location. The traditional 19th-century Grand Hotel Royal is located in Sorrento, Italy, within 13 kilometres of Capri across the Bay of Naples. The hotel is 20 kilometres from Pompeii.
Hotel Features. Set in mature gardens on a cliff top, the Grand Hotel Royal is a large property, rebuilt in the 1980s. It is painted in pastel shades with balconies taking in the views of the Bay of Naples. Steps lead up to the property from the gardens and, inside, the lobby is a cool retreat with marble floors, potted plants and upholstered chairs. Staff are available at the 24- hour front desk to give advice on nearby attractions and tours.

The hotel offers guests complimentary buffet breakfast. Classic Le Relais restaurant has regional specialities and international dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Distance to Grand Hotel Royal is 58 kilometres, approximately 75 minutes' drive.

Getting there. Taxis to the city centre cost approximately 20 EUR. The Alibus shuttle leaves every 30 minutes for Piazza Municipio and Naples' central station (Stazione Centrale). Tickets cost 3 EUR. There are buses to Sorrento. Hydrofoils and ferries sail to the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, and the islands of Ischia and Capri from Naples Port (at the bottom of Piazza Municipio). Prices are all subject to change.

Getting around. The Grand Hotel Royal is on Via Correale in Sorrento. Naples' integrated metro, bus and tram system is inexpensive and efficient. The summit of the Vomero hill can be reached by funicular railway. Driving a car is not recommended within the city centre. Trains from Stazione Centrale run to Sorrento and buses connect to many of the Amalfi Coast resorts. A car is recommended for exploring further afield.
