Booked thru Orbitz at the last minute for the Memorial Day weekend, and the low prices really surprised me! Maybe due to the swine flu scare or season, the resort was very empty with just the locals enjoying the resort for the weekend. Very disappointed with front desk for giving us such a hard time with rooms even with more than 75% of the resort empty. With a family of 5 adults and 1 child, they gave us 2 small rooms with 1 full size bed in each. We offered to rent another room, but given a riduclous rate, so we went thru orbitz again and got a much cheaper rate, but for the next day. So we suffered for a day, and the next day they moved both rooms to a two double bed room and a third single full size bed room which we had to pay additional for. I say it would have been cheaper for them to just put us in a nice suite. All in all the resort was nice, food was great, and poolside/party staff was friendly. Excursions were definatley not worth the money they charge, total rip off Hire a private cab driver and let him show u the city for $50 and pay for the excursions yourself when u reach there. Oh yeah do NOT lose your towel from the hotel, they will charge you $15 for a dirty, discolored beach towel. We left 1 of our towels at the pool side, and actually saw the staff pick it up, but as we checked out they made a scene that we are responsible for the towel..wasnt' worth the arguement ..just paid and left..sorry..that lost my interest in coming back here

i have traveled many time to the domincan republic and, i have to say this was the worst place. the entertainment was no where what it should have been.there was no stage, the performance was horrible.i chose to skip a couple of nights rather than be torture. the food was nasty.i felt like i was on a diet.it was the same just about every day.the only time time they had decent food was on saturday. that only because the local was there.on the weekend the locals always fill the place up. the club was a joke.the only time is was full was on saturday when once again was because the locals was there. it was boring during the week day. there was not enough people there.they tried to do activities by the pool but not enough people to do any thing. the staff was nice and they kept the room clean.my door would not close properly, twice after they cleaned my room, my door was open when i came back. i called the desk and told them. they reppaired it right away.make sure your card is in the box by the door at alll time.i had my out and i thought my outlets did not work.when the they came to fix it, they point that out to me.they are very good in coming to fix things. i had met a group from scotland. they was going to stay for 2 weeks.they told me they did not know how they was going to endure 2 weeks.thank god i was only staying 1 week. i went to ocean world and was very pleased.go during the week day,it's not that crowded.i swam with the sharks and sting rays.that was really difference.i also got to take pictures with a dolpin, sea lion, shark and sting rays.but don't eat there the food is horrible, wait till you get back to the hotel.i would not recommend this hotel.down the beach is a flea market that has nice prices.the cheapest i seen.

Our experience at Grand Paradise Playa Dorado was superb! We arrived a little after 10am and expected to just hang out in the lobby until check in at 3pm. Instead we were allowed to check into our room by 10:30am with no problem! The room was fantastic! instead of 1 room with two beds, we were given a 2 room studio apt, which was very spacious and clean. The entertainment staff was so much fun, as soon as we arrived they learned our names and tried to engage us in activities. Everyone else were super friendly and the bartenders made your drink however you like it. The food at the buffet(Hibiscus) was really good! Eden's was OK and Michelangelo's was our least favorite.(hint: Eden's is open for snacks from midnight to about 1:30am nightly) The beach was really clean and loungers are always available. The hotel has its own disco and although there weren't a lot of ppl there, the bartender and DJ("Chillin") kept us entertained. We went there mainly for drinks before heading over to Coco Bongo's which is where majority of party goers in the Playa Dorado complex went.We also went on several excursions, the Jeep Adventure was awesome! We felt very safe the entire time we were there, security guards patrol the hotel grounds and beach 24/7. Overall we had a really great time! Everyone is really friendly and we made lots of friends! Lots of activities, both daytime and nighttime (or you can just relax if that's what you prefer). **One last thing, it's best to exchange your money before going shopping b/c each store/vendor have different rates varying from 30-33pesos to $1(US). The banks and exchange centers are 35pesos to $1.

I've been to other hotelsn the other side of DR. But this one had the cleanest beach. The room was expectaular, clean spacious with balcony. The pool was huge and staff make up games to have fun and dj plays music for entertainment. the food in resturant is amazing with buffet and 2 specialty resturants. I've never felt so relaxed at a resort. And not to mentionthe views are amazing. Just didn't like the buffet when i got there, the was a trip leaving th next day but crowded the buffet. Because I had no Patience, I ended up ordering PizzaHut.Which is also good service. I'm Going again next year.

My family and I vacation at least twice a year and consider ourselves veteran travelers. We are by no means snobs when it comes to accommodations but I have to say that I was very disappointed with the rooms. We had paid for two oceanfront rooms and ended having to be switched to non oceanfront rooms because of several reasons. First, our toilet did not work. The shutter in the shower was missing. The television didn't work. The air condtitioner didn't work. In the other room, the bathroom was on the second floor which my senior citizen mother couldn't negotiate the spiral staircase up. When we asked to be switched to other oceanfront rooms that everything worked in, we were notified that there were no more oceanfront rooms available. So we moved into 2 non-oceanfront rooms but no allowances were made to compensate us for the downgrade. We had paid more for the oceanview and got a view of the restaurant. The meals were okay but nothing to write home about. The people of the Dominican Republic were very friendly and accommodating. They were never pushy, especially the beach vendors. The grounds were well maintained around the pool and the beach. Supposedly, the resort will be closing for major renovations that are sorely needed. Anyone thinking about going before these renovations take place should give it serious thought.

It is a terrific place and I thoroughly enjoy being there. The beds were comfortable, clean and every day they would fix it and leave on top of it a heart made out of flowers or something else. The staff was very friendly and helpful. You can eat what ever you want, and drink whatever you want between 11 am and 11 pm.
