I HAVE STAYED AT THIS RESORT EVERY NOV. AND FEB FOR 6 YEARS.BELIEVE ME THERE IS NO BETTER RESORT IN PUERTO PLATA.THE STAFF IS EXCELLENT AND VERY FRIENDLY.THE FOOD IS GOOD BUT NOT CANADIAN FOOD AND I WOULD SAY IT IS FAR BETTER THAN MOST.THE BARTENDERS DO A FINE JOB.THE ROOMS ARE VERY CLEAN.LOTS OF BEACH CHAIRS AND THE BEACH IS CLEAN MOST OF THE TIME.OVER ALL I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESORT.(TRY THE RESTAURANT FOOD)VERY GOOD.THE STAFF AT THE FRONT DESK WILL DO ANYTHING TO MAKE YOUR STAY A GREAT ONE.ENJOY YOUR TRIP.

the hotel is nice the staff is super, the food is not the greaestt but have a big variety, one thing that I found a major inconviniece is for a hotel that big they only have one beach towel exchage location they should have at least two one of then being at the beach.

Rooms were clean, AC worked well. Staff went out of their way to accomidate you. Buffet had a wide variety food, was OK, we went to Mango's by the beach everyday for lunch, the 3 resturants for dinner were much better. Beach was clean, pleanty of chairs. Complaints: They opened the resort to the locals on the weekend (it happened to be a holiday weekend), 4 times as many people, not enough bar tenders (only 2 bars near the water) long lines to get drinks. No pool or beach waitstaff to get you drinks, their loss that's were I tip the most. Overall, great place to stay, would definetly reccommend.

check-in was painless. hotel staff friendly. luz at guest services did a tremendous job for us. i'd advise bringing a large cup for drinks.beach was lovely, pool was very nice. the food was the only thing that wasn't 'great'. buffett was just that. mexican rest. was ok i recomend the 'seafood cocktail'. the italian rest. was the best. gift shops are better at the hotel next door. i'd advise getting traveler's insurance. wife took a spill hospital charged over 550.oo for x rays. hotel was kind of enough to pay half. the flea market which is a quick walk is ok. kind of pushy just be assertive. met a very nice group of people. volleyball on the beach is a must. would go back in a heartbeat.

Our room was very nice. One thing that bothered me, was when housekeeping comes, they come in waves. One comes and removes all towels, one comes to make the bed and clean up, another comes to bring clean towels, and then one comes to refill the refrigerator. It doesn't allow for much privacy during the day. They knock open the door within a second and then realize you are in the room doing whatever it was you were doing. We didn't have any problems with bugs. Not at night, not during the day, and not in beach sand. The beach was alright, there was a lot of seaweed in the mornings when the tide returned. But they had guys out there cleaning it up each day. We were on our honeymoon and we notified them of that and they didn't do anything for us, as they had advertised. The night life was relatively quiet. They had a small disco, which was just the sports bar by day. They had a casino, which was entertaining. They had shows each night, not as risque as I'd have liked, but it was pretty fun. The biggest problem for us was the language barrier. We only speak American English and very very little spanish. The staff was nice, but they were much nicer and friendlier to you if you spoke spanish. The bar tenders can only understand the drinks on the menu posted, so don't try and explain a new drink to them (in English anyway). The busboys (and girls) speak spanish only unless to say "no obla ingles". The buffet food was good. The restaurant food was great.

Three& half hour flight, no surprises. Hotel people fantastic, bent over backwards for us. Room very clean, daily. Restaurants (4) went to 3 there is nothing that you, could want for , Just ask and they will make it for you. The beach is cleaned daily, the only thing whiter is the SNOW we left.the people are very personable.....the travel Helper in my case Caroll can send you any place you might want to go. Are there Time share people ? yes A stern NO and they leave you alone. Note bring 35 -70 sun blocker in Feb th e sun will rip your hide off. Also rub on deodorant & lip Gloss is very expensive bring you own. Small gifts to the maid, service staff, and desk help so very much. You scratch their back , They bend over backwards and make your, dream trip come true. After @* years this was onlg over due. If I knew then what and now How cheap it was, to get away for family and the positive effects. I'm Going again in Feb. 2009 No Question....

I decided to take a last minute trip to Puerto Plata to get some rest and relaxation. I wanted a place that I could lay by the pool, go to beach, stick close to the hotel and had a great room. The Grand Oasis hotel had all the above- the pool was huge and invigorating, the beach was lovely and my room was very very comfortable. Some reviews mentioned that the food was not that great. I would rate the buffet as decent but not poor. I always found something that was pretty tasty and satisfying. There are restaurants you can choose from in the evening that are really good- ate at italian one and it was great. The snack bar that is open most of time was not good at all- but I didn't really need to eat there except for a nice cup of coffee overlooking the beach. Very pretty. Also some reviews complained about the animation team. I met a few of the staff and they were quite nice and fun to talk to. During the day by the pool, they would encourage you play stupid but funny games like darts, water aerobics, dance lessons etc. For a solo traveler like myself, I had an open mind and met lots of people this way.

Stayed there with my family for 4 nights.....the facilities were beautiful but service was terrible (for lack of a better word). The food was absolutely horrible...it was neither Mexican, French, Italian, Dominican or anything else...it was plain bad (my kids survived on bread and french fries)...the service at the restaurants was non-existant, getting a reservation an imposibility and to get room service you must be near your death bed, beg for it AND wait and wait and wait. Each time I asked the staff for assistance (in whatever area), I was looked upon as if I was bothering them...no smiles, no please, no thank you, nothing.I have stayed at Comfort Inn's that have better service and friendlier staff and would NEVER stay in this hotel again even if it was given to me for free.

The service was generally poor at this all inclusive resort; we waited for just about everything & were not catered to much at all. The food selection was poor; much of the same food day after day (we were happy to leave after 5 days of the same food over & over again). Not to mention that my boyfriend that traveled with me is still suffering from Travelers Diarrhea 48 hours after returning home... The "sales" staff (vacation club) was way overboard with their pushy sales pitches; these people would literally follow you around the resort hassling you (even to the pool & beach!). They park themselves outside of the main dining area throughout breakfast & lunch and just hassle you each & every time you walk by; we literally would take the extra time/effort to walk all the way around the resort so to not have to walk by these people as often... The pool was noisy ALL the time, & not at all relaxing to be at. The shows were sub par at best. If you needed any service in your room, you waited for it... For example: our "included" mini bar was locked & it took about an hour for someone to come unlock it. Secondly, one of our toilets wouldn't flush & after calling the front desk twice it still wasn't fixed until after I went to the front desk the next day & requested it again to be fixed (luckily we had 2 bathrooms...) The drinks sucked; there was very limited alcohol selection (no coconut rum! no spiced rum! no mudslides! fake strawberry daquiri mix! most drinks sucked & were made differently every time!). I would never return to this resort or any Grand Oasis Marien resorts nor would I recommend this place to anyone. The beach was beautiful, plenty of chairs & nice beach; however those above mentioned sales people would stand at all of the entrances/exits to the beach area & harass you on the way in & out. The closest bar to the beach was pretty far away too so drinking on the beach was a pain to enjoy. I hope this helps someone out there & wasn't just a way for me to ven

Over all the hotel is not bad. The location is beautiful. Big pool. Beautiful landscape but please don't touch anything from the room bar or you have to pay dearly. Also they have this people following you all over trying to get you to sign for a vacation club. Its very annoying. Furthermore, the Staff in very unfriendly. Be careful.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time at this resort. At first we were skeptical because of previous reviews but we where surprised. We spent most of our time during the day and afternoon either at the beach or the pool. The pool is clean and beautiful surroundings. We loved the entertainment that surrounds the pool area. We never had any problems finding a lounge chair at either the pool or the beach even if we went at 10am or 3pm to either location. The beach is nice the only issue is too much seaweed which put a slight damper on our beach experience. The staff is great, the room was spacious and always clean. One day the housekeeper walked in even though she knocked and we responded to her. She did apologize but it still was a minor negative on our view of the resort. The bar staff was also great and would always add a bit of extra alcohol if requested. We have been to other resorts and by far this has been the best one in the Puerto Plata area. We had such a wonderful experience that we are already planning our next getaway for the very near future.

Hotel was wonderful, staff was friendly and food was great. No complaints whatsoever! We got a free upgrade to a suite because it took a while for them to find our reservations. I can't wait to go back again!

The experience I had at this hotel was great. Good food and a great price. Besides the weather, everything else was perfect. Beautiful rooms and a very spacious hotel space. Great pool and beach location. Staff made us feel very welcomed. And the entertainment staff is great. If you go, you must catch the nightly shows. By for the best hotel I've stayed in in a long time. Will definitely go back!

This resort was very, very nice. We were in building 8 which is one of the newer ones. It was very clean and spacious. Not a single thing wrong with our room. The Italian restaurant and the buffet were the best. The Mexican wasn't bad. We would definately stay there again.

The Oasis Marien seems to be making a lot of improvements, like adding a casino and providing more activities. The pool is great and kept very clean. Otherwise the food is subpar, the beds are very hard, and the property has very few indoor options during bad weather.

This is my second visit to this resort. The staff is friendly and the rooms are nice. I had a room with an ocean view and, because of being so close to the ocean, it was a bit damp all the time. Next time I think I will try a garden view a bit more away from the ocean breezes. The food is nice, the breakfast is always the best meal of the day. Fresh fruit is always available as well as fresh squeezed fruit juices: passion fruit and guava being my favorites. The bread station is to die for!! All the staff is always friendly, although the housekeeping takes a bit long and they seem to come to the room 4 or 5 times before they complete the entire room, this can be a bit annoying if you are trying to get some quiet time in your room. Sometimes it takes until 5pm for them to complete the cleaning, although one night, on a Friday, they actually knocked on the door at 7:30 pm to ask if I needed towels. But overall it was a nice stay with lots to do.
