Not so grand at the GrandArriving on a humid day, I was rather surprised at the lack of air conditioning in the room, and accordingly opened the window, which allowed in the noise from the A/C unit on top of the restaurant! The room was clean, if a little cramped, and the bed comfortable, with immaculate linen. We were unable to obtain hot water from the shower in the morning, and were told that that this was a consequence of "Many people taking a shower at once" : in a four-star hotel with 201 rooms, I would have thought this was a common occurence, so perhaps they should consider upgrading the heating system. Staff were courteous and considerate, although when I asked for my table and drink in the bar to be held for me whilst I accompanied my wife to our room, I returned to find my table occupied and my drink gone. This was rectified, although the real ale (freshly poured) was rather tired and flat.Magnificent building, atmospheric bar (with pianist), but the quibbles above slightly marred our stay.

A Grand Do!Public areas are elegant and well kept, ideal for a drink or meeting friends. All the staff were attentive ,efficient, friendly & helpful;they quickly gave us better rooms when we said we weren't satisfied with the original ones. The replacement rooms were very comfortable. The buffet breakfast was outstanding - to have hot waffles & pancakes made to order was great.

Our experience at the Grand Hotel BrightonFirst impressions lovely hotel, staff were great, came down to the car to assist with our bags, showed us the way to the reception desk to check in, took us up to the room. Room was small and extremely basic, the fridge contained a bottle of water and nothing else, the view was awful, the room overlooked the back of tall building, very dissapointing after requesting a room with view. There was also no fan or air conditioning, the weather was amazing, but no air in the room made it stuffy and uncomfortable. Unfortunately the only Grand thing about this experience was the extortionate prices.

Do not use their car park it is £25!For a hot night there was no air con. With the window open there was a constant drone from a fan below. We got the room for £80 which was very cheap. If I had paid the full price of £270 it would have been a rip off.Breakfast was great but people coming after us had to qeue to get in for some time which was unacceptable. The bar is terrific.

BreakfastThis was a little disorganised on the first day with us having to ask for tea/coffee on more than two occassions before we were eventually served. However we had no further problems for the rest of our stay and the service was then what we would expect from a hotel of this quality. An excellent selection of foods from fresh fruit to full cooked -

Faded GrandeurOverall our stay was pleasant. Good breakfast, bed, bedding and towels. The communal areas were lovely. Unfortunately the room was tired and dated. And too hot -- 81 degrees. We had to have the windows open so we had the incessant noise of the kitchen extractor fans. I am glad we did not pay the full price for this room.

The Grand is great but the windows of our inland room were screwed shut including the bathroom (with NO extractor fan), so it was sweltering in the heatwave during our stay - otherwise the room quality was very good. A fan was provided but this merely moved the hot air about; the windows were not unscrewed This spoiled an otherwise pleasant stay; won't stay here again in an inland room in summer

Ok for £90, but would have gone bananas if I'd paid the rack rate (£270)...I must admit that when I think 5* hotel, I'm really thinking of Hotel Babylon. For me the thing that gets you from 3/4* to 5* is an outstanding concierge and a really good quality breakfast (freshly cooked to order). The room itself was fine although being at the back of the hotel, the windows were frosted so you couldn't see out. The air conditioning was a bit of a struggle with no instructions and I needed some help to get the controller rebooted and sync'd to the main unit. The dissappointments were:1) At the concierge desk who couldn't really recommend good local restaurants and who really struggled with looking up some train times (we got there in the end though).2) In the restaurant for breakfast. The staff were surly at best and after sitting waiting for five minutes to get some coffee while the staff were \"prioritising\" clearing tables I finally went and found someone who could bring coffee. The food itself was a very dissappointing buffee. Dry stale croissants, hot food that had been cooked a long time earlier and was left on a hot plate and although you could have a freshly cooked egg, you could only have it fried in a wok containing at least a litre (literally) of fat so eggs could be cooked deep fried or deep fried. I've had much better breakfasts at B&Bs.Not a terrible hotel for £90/night including breakfast, but definately not up to 5* standard in my opinion. To end on a positive note, there is a great bar, and the ambiance of the hotel is quite amazing. The Grand is certainly one of the most characterful hotels in Brighton.

A Grand ExperienceThe De Vere Grand Hotel in Brighton lived up to all expectations and while the rooms were more expensive than we would normally book they were incredibly spacious (standard room) and immaculately cleaned with no sign of the grubby grouting and skirtings so often seen in other hotels in Brighton.Staff were friendly ,helpful and attentive without being too intrusive. Breakfast was a veritable feast with something for everybody. The surroundings conveyed all the charm of a bygone era but with all modern neccessities.

Good Deal£90 for one nights B&B is good value for a prestigeous hotel like this .We had afternoon tea optied for the £25 per head version not great value for money but top quality .Breakfast was first class.

Our first visit to Brighton and the Grand Hotel.Very happy with all aspects of our stay. The first room we were allocated however was situated opposite an air conditioning unit.It was noisy and we asked to be moved. We were quickly allocated another room which was fine. All staff were pleasant and very helpful. My only grievance would be the outrageous cost of the hotel car park.£50 to park the car for two days!.

First and Last Stay at the Grand!Overall we were very diisappointed with the Grand. From the moment we walked in the service was very poor and unfriendly .The room was shabby and looked like it dated back to the 19th Century .The food at breakfast was ok but other than that I could not recommend the hotel at all and we will definitely not be returning .

Very pleasant stayI had a very large room and en suite bathroom. The bed was very comfortable with fresh white cotton bedding. The continental breakfast I had delivered to my room was beautifully presented on a dark wood tray with crisp white linen. The hotel has a nice relaxing feel and I would definitely go back for a leisure visit. I would have expected a better television and better quality furniture for a hotel of this standard though.

This is not a five star hotelI've always wanted to stay at the Grand and how disappointing. I got a last minute deal so the cost was very good indeed, however, this is not a five star hotel by any stretch of the imagination. I realise that I only had a standard room for my two-night stay but even so the room was not of a five star standard and I can't believe it is rated as such. The cloth on the furniture was stained. The wallpaper was ripped in places and the bath products were 'lame'. I have stayed in far superior 4 Star hotels. The breakfast was 'help yourself buffet'. Never ever have I stayed at a four or five star hotel where this is the case. They should take your order for breakfast. Instead you help yourself to food that has been sitting under lamps for god knows how long. The original cost of this room is £270 a night. Not worth it at all.

De Vere Grand Hotel in BrightonThis hotel is a far remove from any other 5* hotel I have stayed in. It is slightly shabby and old fashioned. The room, while comfortable, was not particularly well furbished ,with old sanitary ware and fading paintwork. No flat screen TV or other modern amenities. The breakfast was the greatest disappointment - perhaps one of the worst I have had recently in my many overnight stays on business. A lacklustre cooked breakfast, served buffet style with overcooked items left too long under heated lamps. For example, fried eggs with a thick skin on them. Very off putting. The service was ok, if a little off hand. I asked for a taxi to be booked for me and it didn't turn up, so I was late arriving at my meeting. Altogether, a disappointing experience.
