Great Stay, the staff at the hotel was excellent. They helped us plan a great vacation. They had a comprehensive knowledge of the area and were able to recommend the "right places". This hotel has recently been remodeled and the pictures online are a good representation of what you will get. We did eat Perkins for breakfast and it was good.

Good value for the money. Continental breakfast was a great drawing card, putting *fuel in my tank* before jaunting out for the day exploring this great part of our country! The rooms were clean and spacious. The staff was very helpful. I'd stay here again as I felt very safe being a single traveler.

Nice pool, clean rooms good service, conveniently located. This is a very reasonable and nice hotel conveniently located in the black hills, great location to get to any and all attractions including those that are south of the location like Custer park and Mt. Rushmore and crazy horse as well as those that are a little north like Deadwood and Devils Tower. Small but nice pool. Lots of business around to visit and get the things you may need.

We travel 4 weeks a year. We often use online travel website to book our vacations. We get some great deals that way. Grand Gateway acted like we were not welcome just because we used online travel website and got a good deal. They even said "You used online travel website. We can't give you an upgrade since you paid so little for the room." We were about the only guest in the hotel - you would have thought they would be very appreciative of every travel dollar. We paid for a superior room and got a standard room. We ask for a better room and were shown another room but it only had 3 dresser drawers. We were there for 9 nights - 3 dresser drawers wouldn't work. The bed seemed to be "short sheeted" with low quality sheets, the comforter slid off the bed every night and the pillows were hard, fat and short. The hotel does not have a free breakfast but has a Perkins attached. We tried to eat there - the food is fine but the cigarette smoke was so thick we couldn't eat there every day plus it's expensive. Go somewhere else if you are a non-smoker. We could have used hotel drink vouchers at the attached Cheers but it also had heavy smoke. The cleaning staff came in every day except Christmas. They left clean towels on the floor outside the door on Christmas. My advice: There are plenty of places to stay in Rapid City - nice places at a much cheaper rate and they include hot, full breakfasts. Use them. As for restaurants: Red Lobster, Outback and Fuddruckers are especially good. Must see places: #1: Badlands National Park, #2: Mount Rushmore, #3: Crazy Horse, #4: Spearfish and Deadwood, #5: 1880 Train in Hill City.

The hotel has just been recently remodeled and it looks really nice. Great bedding, comfortable beds, super pillows, great bar, great indoor pool area. Can't say enough nice things about the hotel. The bar is upscale yet fun, ,kareoke. resturants and mall nearby. very happy with my choice.

This is a very nice clean property with more than adequate amenaties. We did not know that this was a pet friendly hotel or we would have requested that our room not be near those guests that had dogs. We awoke twice to barking and whining. We did not, however, have any incidents in the middle of the night. Breakfast was far from spectacular but more than adequate to get the day going and in a pleasant setting. The restaurant itself lacked any formal dining facility but the gambit of fast food, coffee shops and chain name restaurants are close by. If you are planning to visit the monuments and historic sights in the area, this property is very centerally located making a hub and spoke vacation very easy.

The temperature in the pool area was very comfortable. Although we probably should have stayed closer to Keystone, the hotel was wonderful. The staff was great. Perkins was conveniently located in the lobby. The pool with slide was a huge hit with my son.

We were very pleased with the Grand Gateway. The accomodations were attractive and comfortable. The bed was great! Best of all, the hotel is located very well. We stayed 5 nights and toured the major sites of the entire area (Mt. Rushmore, Black Hills, Crazy Horse Monument, caves and the spectacular BadLands) plus we ventured into Wyoming to see Devils's Tower. Personnel at the hotel were helpful and cordial. There is a good breakfast restaurant attached as well.

Had the best night of sleep. It has been years since I slept that good. Quite. Pillows and bed were so comfortable. If you need a good night of sleep while traveling stay there. The front desk staff was excellent.

The rooms were small and had and odor. Beds were uncomfortable, and linens were old. The continental breakfast was a joke - hotel staff complained that they couldn't compete with Perkins next door. I would not stay here again and would not recommend this place unless you had no other place to stay for the night.

Walls very thin, can hear every word said in hall ways, beds worn out, room was not cleaned when we arrived. Half a case of empty soda cans was in the room when we arrived. The same case was there when we left, even after we moved it next to the garbage can in the bathroom.

I had read some of the negative comments regarding this hotel and was a little leary of the hotel. We arrived very early on Friday and were immediately checked in. Our room was very nice and had a pretty decor. There was one hair in the bathroom, but did not call management as everything else was spic and span. The only negatvie thing I would say is that there were lots of kids that were hogging the hot tub. I feel that there should be a time where just adults access the pool area. We did not get to enjoy the tub our entire stay. Otherwise, the staff was very friendly and helpful. We would stay there again.

I am puzzled by the relatively high ratings this hotel has received. The corridor smelled of smoke, as did our "no smoking" room. The room (a "Deluxe" room, top floor--they said it was the best they had) was small and had only a wall-mounted air conditioner. The tub hardly drained, the Internet was slow, and the staff could barely be bothered. Don't stay here for the pool, either--no lifeguard means that kids of all ages are left to use and abuse the water slide. We saw them coming down in groups, standing up, whatever they could come up with. We even saw one teenager dive into water barely five feet deep. The pool is small, the hot tub tiny, and the noise and smell were awful. We had reserved three days, and left after the first night. We won't be back.

5-day Black Hills family trip. Pool is a nice area to relax after hiking and site seeing all day. The staff supplied all things needed above and beyond the usual. The rooms are satisfactory a little small but the right price. Hotel is right off the freeway which is convenient to all the sites, 1/2 hour to Badlands entrance, 1/2 hour to Mt Rushmore and 1/2 hour to Deadwood. There is a Perkins attached tot he hotel which makes it very convenient. The only small beef was one of the security doors was stuck open and would not lock, but it does have cameras on it.

This was a terrific hotel for our family. The kids got to unwind in the pool (awesome water slide) while the adults lounged in comfort poolside (indoors). The rooms were very comfortable and the staff was terrific! I have had better continental breakfast but the kids really enjoyed it and again the staff made everything pleasant. We would definately stay there again!

"Very enjoyable stay, this hotel would be great for any traveler. Staff was super through out the hotel. Decor was beautiful, all new and very clean. loved the shuttle service, we stayed 3 nights. The waterslide, lounge and Perkins was a big plus."
