My Grand Canal Experience - an overnight stay in DublinThe Grand Canal Hotel proved a very good choice for my overnight accommodation, being within easy walking distance of the O2 Arena (a concert there was the reason for my trip). The hotel staff were helpful at all times. My room was spacious and comfortable.

The hotel was in a residential area and wasn't that close to downtown but cabs were plentiful and there was bus transportation to downtown a couple of blocks away. There were a couple of pubs and stores within easy walking distance. The room rate did not include breakfast which we didn't find out until we finished our breakfast the first morning there. It would have been nice to have been told that in advance. There is a nice bar and restaurant attached to the hotel.

The hotel was very nice and clean. However, we were not happy with having to pay for every extra items (breakfast, internet, etc). In addition, each time we asked the hotel staff for city information, they were not able to help us (certain sites, public transportation options). Last, the hotel is located quite a distance from the city center. It is about 20 minutes walking to any sites.

Value for moneyThe room was favourably priced and most importantly, was very clean. While it was slightly far from the city centre (about twenty minutes walk), it was near an aircoach stop (a frequent airport shuttle) which was important due to the weight of my luggage. In order to get to the city centre quickly, I took buses from the bus stop nearby (about five minutes walk away), as I bought a bus travel day card which allowed me to take an unlimited number of bus rides. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. Great experience overall.

Stayed with my wife on a weekend break. Found location to be ideal to be near enough to city centre to walk but far enough out to be quiet and not full of hen or stag weekends. Courteous and friendly staff on reception and in the restaurants , although some cant speak English very well.

Hotel is functional, its good value. The staff were a little disorganised, but did have some coach tours to attend to.

Pleasant business style hotel. Good value for money, but had to pay for wifi access which was a disappointment. Located close to a DART station and an easy walk into the city centre. Free car park. Good for a short visit.

The hotelis easy to find and the reception staff are very welcoming and friendly. The restaurant food was fair to good and the room was smart, comfortable had everything I needed. I have stayed here before and I will stay again.

I found the Gasworks Restaurant and pub excellent as you had access through the hotel to get to it. I found that for the price of the room breakfast should have been included.

We stopped at this hotel on the Monday and had booked to return on the Wednesday, Mondays stay was excellent so We were looking forward to Wednesday. On arrival we were informed that the hotel was overbooked and they had arrange for us to stop at their sister hotel. they handled the transfer, upgraded the hotel, matched the room rate, and included free breakfast. I have to compliment them on their excellenht customer service.

lets face it, its a Travelodge style hotel - complete with bolt-on bar - but appears to cost quite a bit more. While other hotels offer free wireless internet, this hotel charges. I had to change room after 2 nights as there was building work going on right next to the hotel - and they liked to start the day at 7am with a jackhammer! I was duly moved to an 'executive' room at no extra cost (although they managed to lose my bag between rooms, eventually resolved about and hour later). A word on the 'executive room' which costs 25 euro more - you get a fluffy dressing gown, a safe, a cd player and a LCD TV.. oh and a mint on your pillow. Unfortunately i didn't have anything to put in the safe, no CDs to play, no requirement for a dressing gown, and it makes no difference whatsoever watching the same TV programmes on a flat screen than a normal CRT TV really... but the mint was nice

The hotel was further out of the town centre than described but a modern purpose built hotel with large rooms and en-suite. It was very much a business hotel but tea and coffeee making sachets were replaced each morning. The breakfast was very good value- buffet style and hot and fresh. Would definately use again.

The rooms at this hotel are travellodge style. I had two rooms booked, one for a collegue. My own room was fine, however, the other was in a poor state of repair, with grey duct tape used to repair the carpet at various doorways.

Hotel easy to get to and parking facility at no additonal charge was excellent.

This is a good standard budget hotel. It's about a 20 minute walk to the city centre, so it's very convenient. I have no complaints about this hotel. It was a good stay (and relatively cheap for Dublin).

Only real problem was that there was no hot water on our last day, but we were not informed there was a problem (There was a small card on the reception when we left) or offered any solutions to get washed or an apology.

unfortunately there was a break down in communication between late rooms and the hotel in that when i arrived no room had been reserved. I had to wait whilst this was rectified and was then given a double room where i had requested a twin. Back to reception where again this was rectified. Other than that a very pleasant hotel but a taxi is needed when going out or coming back from a night out in dublin. only 7 euros each way but something to bear in mind.
