We really enjoyed our stay here, only wished the walls could talk and tell us all the stories of an era that is faded away in Peru. The hotel reflects the style, class and luxury that once existed here, and now is only a ghost of years gone. If you are looking for something modern and convenient go someplace else. If you want a rare experience check into the Grand Bolivar. Reserve enough time to walk around the plaza outside the hotel, it is beautiful.

As a female traveling alone, I wanted to be safe and yet stay in El Centro, Lima. I love historic hotels and was very pleased with the Gran Hotel Bolivar . My 3 day stay was made very pleasant by the friendly and attentive staff. It was the perfect location to walk to all the museums and excellent restaurants in El Centro. I never once felt unsafe in the area.

We stayed in this hotel in May 2009. Even though I am ok with my stay, I have to say when I left I felt very sad for the state the hotel is in. There are many things in the hotel that remind you of its former glory. The lobby, the pictures that show what the hotel was like 30 years ago, and the 5 star sticker hidden in the office. However this is clearly the past now. The hotel and its decor are still beautiful, but it is also very tired looking due to lack of maintaince. And our room is self is really 2 stars at the most. The only amenities we got are towers and 1 bar of soap. There was not enough hot water for 2 people to shower, especially when the room next door is also using hot water, and worst of all, it is really noisy. We have a room that faced the inside, and I can hear all the noise from the street. Some people say that the location is not good. I will say that while the location is not great, it still have its benifit. It is still close to the main plaza, and plaza st. martin is very nice during the day. Yes it doesn't feel extremely safe, but the whole central Lima is like that anyway. The nicer neighborhood is at Miraflores, and there are 5 star hotels there. Imagine the Peninsula or the Plaza, left untounch for 30 years, then this is what Hotel Bolivia feels like.

It's OK. There is free wireless at the lobby (not at your room). A bit problem is that it is facing the big square and busy street so it is noisy even at night. Rooms are old but thinking of price, this is good enough!

We stayed there for approx. 2 nights and one day. the hotel has some beautiful spots like the stained glass dome, but as everyone before me stated, it definitely has seen better days. Still the staff is very diligent about keeping the place as clean as possible. In fact, I think that the staff really makes the place. They were very helpful about everything from explaining how to use the phones and internet, to arranging cabs in the wee hours of the morning and late night check in. This is not a four star establishment, dont go there expecting it to be. But it is a worth every penny.

the worse experience i ever had in a hotel bad service,no a/c,hot water, mold smell thru out the hole hotel, dangerous place where it was located.

It was very difficult to find reasonable transportation out of the area. The most trustworthy mode was by a private taxi recommended by the hotel clerk. I felt protected during the day, but afraid of traveling alone after sundown for fear of crime which I have heard of. I mainly took daily tours to become more aquainted with the district where I stayed. The altitude was too great for a trip to Machu Picchu, which is were I particularlly wanted to see.The postcards were not visible enough for me to get a feel what it would be like to visit there. I wish I could have had a tour to see the people who lived on the mountainside. It was a great trip.

Overpriced for substandard room. Bathroom ceiling was full of water stains/paint pealling, the bathtub requires MAJOR REFINISHING as the tub was peeling. No hot water at ANY HOUR. Bathroom toilet was broken. Permanent stains on bathroom floor in centre. The carpets had clearly NOT BEEN CLEANED for some time. It appears that maid services only do a quick vaccuming without vaccuming the corners etc. The windows do not have screens and/or security bars. If the window is opened for fresh air, then expect flys and/or people could enter through. The management upon checkout COULD'NT CARE LESS to hear customer reviews.

This Hotel is a must see, I swear you can see the ghost of the past elegant era here. It is in a central location for all the downtown sites of interest,, the changing of the Presedental guard,, the Catacombs,, the Cathedral de Lima,,, the China town markets,,,too much to list all,,,overall its dated but its history is worth the stay,,

It is old, however it is a classic, and for two to three days is located right in the heart of old Lima. It is kept very clean. I recommend using the stair ways though not the elevator.

i was born in Lima,Peru, and when I was lettle this hotel was the pride of south america, now that they have been hit with time and money they still keep their class ,and Iam happy to stay in a place that was built for presidents and big starts from all over the world.

This hotel is very charming with fairly good location. You could not ask for the staff to be more helpful- no request was denied. Really does get a visitor into the local feel of Lima. Supermarket close by, many places to eat, easy to get transportation. However, a lot of noise, cars beeping horns- street noise- very late and very early. Perhaps location of the room was the issue- maybe an inside room would be quieter- I really did have trouble sleeping. The shower was surprisingly fine- hot water was always available. The TV was fine. Room was a little musty - but not a real problem for us. This was a unique expierence and I would probably stay again and do not regret staying here.

A wonderful old hotel that has seen better days. The bed was a little hard and the noise from the street below was loud, but after long days of sightseeing, it didn't matter.

The Hotel Gran Bolivar is a great value. The staff is very helpful and friendly and usually someone speaks English. Just a short walk from most tourist sites, shopping, and restaurants. Rooms are large and furnished with antique furniture. Showing its age but clean. Hot water in the shower depended on the time of day (mornings were sketchy). Internet access available in the lobby but not rooms. If you want a modern, sterile tourist environment go to Mirraflores, but this is a gorgeous hotel and I have no hesitation recommending it.

This 1920's gem cannot be compared to modern hotels. It is an acclectic treasure...antique furniture, chandaliers, ballrooms with marble columns and balconies. It had a European flair, especially its dining. Very family friendly, outstanding service, superb location. We were able to wi-fi from the lobby, catch reliable honest taxis at the door, relax comfortably in our rooms and walk to major attractions in just minutes. A perfect price too! Will stay again.

Mildewed, impossible to sleep at night, especially if you have asthma. The place needs to be closed down and completed renovated.

The Grand Bolivar Hotel is a beautiful hotel and some of the hotel staff were very helpful. We had an overnight flight and arrived at the hotel at 6:00 am. We asked if it was possible to check in at that time. The female employee at the hotel registration counter told us that it would not be a problem, she would check us in immediately. We were given a hotel room without hot water, the toilette did not flush and without a telephone or television. After cleaning up, we immediately went back to the hotel registration counter and asked if they could change our rooms due to the lack of amenities. The male employees were pleasant and accommodating. They immediately apologized, telling us that this was a temporary accommodation until they could check-in time of 12:00 pm. We were given a very nice room. We spent five days at the hotel and our return flight was scheduled for Sunday at 7:45 am. On Saturday night, we asked the same female employee at the hotel desk to give us a wake-up call at 4:15 a.m., so we could be at the airport at 5:45 am. We did not receive a wake-up call, but we were able to wake-up and arrive at the airport in time to make our flight. Due to these two instances, we were very unhappy with that particular hotel employee and this event spoiled part of our trip. afor clerk to Sunday in the hotel and our flight Thcheck-in in the morning a
