We had a ball. We slept in the comforts of our room until mid morning. Had breakfast at the buffet. Played at the beach--beautiful and clean waters and sand. Pool aerobics in the afternoon. casino & resort shopping in the evening. Dinner at the specialty restaurants and evenings listening to the keyboard under the stars. We have cruised 11 times in the past 7 years to the caribbean, stayed at all inclusive resorts on 2 islands and stayed at CONUS resorts. This was by far the best and most friendly service. Well worth the money for what you receive.

We booked the junior all inclusive suite (the cheapest) and upon arrival were upgraded for free to the Ambar - adults only portion of the resort. It seems after talking with other travelers this happens quite often. The other areas of the resort - Bavarro and Punta Cana - are flooded with children. In addition, if you like desserts like me, the chocolate in Bavarro and Punta Cana tastes like it's made with Rum. However at Ambar, this is not the case. Thus, for people like me who love desserts but are not necessarily fans of alcohol, Ambar's desserts were also worth it. In addition, other people we talked to paid to upgrade to Ambar... here are the benefits to Ambar: *Better food *24 hour room service-included in all inclusive *Scented pillows, apple or chamomile *No kids *More romantic *Secluded, less people *6 months old (very recently built); brand new *Excellent maid service, daily *Private couples VIP massages *Adults only pool and beach areas with swim up bars at the pool And on our way to and from the airport, picking up other people at different resorts; it is clear we lucked out with the best resort Punta Cana has to offer. Benefits to this resort: *Excellent security, safe *Newer than most *Discotec (dance club) on site so no need to leave the resort *Casino on site *Plenty of shopping at REASONABLE prices, sometimes extremely cheap *Most staff speaks English, Spanish, and some speak French as well *GORGEOUS *Delicious food; great variety; different themed nights *3 a la carte meals at specialty restaurants on site are included in the all inclusive price as well Side note: DO NOT WASTE TIME ON THE TOURS. They tell you it will be half day but turns out to be 12 hours!!!

The song here says that they make your dreams come true and it is the truth. I originally booked in Gran Principe Punta Cana but with only a few dollars more upgraded to Ambar, an all inclusive for adults only and lots of extras not offer on Punta Cana... This has been the best vacation ever... The price for an all inclusive was not that much with the airfare and this place is great... Everyone is super friendly, the have lots of activities and everything was great...

My husband and I went on this trip to celebrate our 10th anniversary, and he's already planning our trip back. We had a absolutely wonderful time. The grounds were immaculate, the service was superb, the beach was gorgeous, the food was excellent, the rooms were huge and spotless, and the water was crystal clear. It was so relaxing and fun! We met so many people from all over - Scotland, Canada, Hungary, and other states. The only excursion we went on was a visit to the cigar factory - if you like cigars ask your agent about it. It's very informative and it was free. My husband bought a box while we were there. The only complaint we had was that men have to wear long pants in the evening if they want to eat. We thought the resort could have offered one place where shorts could be worn. So take long pants, they can be jeans but I recommend something lightweight - it's to hot for jeans. If you don't have long pants expect to pay high for linen pants or order room service every night. That being said, we had a wonderful time and are looking forward to going back.

Went to Dominican for a wedding. Everyone else stayed at LTI Beach Resort-a 4 star resort about 10 minutes away. We opted to stay at Ambar Bahia Principe. What a difference!! we were so grateful to get back to our resort at the end of the wedding day. Bahia is clean, excellent food, friendly staff. The grounds are manicured to perfection. Upgrade to Ambar is well worth the money. Too many kids in the other sections. Plus the private pool and swim up bar plus the better restaurants makes this resort a little piece of heaven. We would definately return.

We had and amazing time, really. I relied on a lot of reviews to make my decision, so im going to try to be helpful & honest. Spend the extra couple hundred to stay at the Ambar vs. the Principe... your room with be so much closer to the beach and main hotel areas, and restaurants... all within walking distance. We never needed to take a trolley, like some others who were almost a mile from the beach because the complex is huge with like 3 hotels put together. When we arrived, at check-in i gave the guy $10 american dollars, and he upgraded us to an even better location, only like 10 steps from the pool! The rooms are huge, they have everything you need in them, and the electricity voltage is the same. Free unlimited refills in the minibar, and you can use any amenity from any of the hotels. The beach is much less crowded, we always found great cabanas, but the principe beach was soooo packed! The buffet was a lot better than I had imagined it would be, and the dinners were never less than an 8 out of 10, fairly wide variety. I for the first time, didnt have to pack a lot of clothes, just casual is fine for every occasion. But MEN MUST WEAR LONG PANTS for meals, even lunch! Definitely bring sunblock, the sun is realllly strong, and i dont usually burn, the heat is intense. I booked transportation to/from airport through Orbitz, and that was probably the easiest and cheapest.... the beach was spectacular. Bring a camera, use the safe, you dont need more than $300 maximum... unless you plan on leaving the complex (which i found out after there was a great dance club about 5 min from hotel called Imagine) or going on excursions or whatever. We spent less than $50 the whole time including any tips, which you dont need to give to anyone at all in fact, and they dont pressure you at all. Except $10 per person tourist fee to enter the country! So that is about it... I would recommend this hotel and trip to anyone!

Food was average considering high 5 star all inclusive rating. Also the drink selection and offerings were poor considering the 5 star level. Also the TRANSPORTATION FROM HOTEL BACK TO AIRPORT WAS A COMPLETE RIP OFF!!!

This was by far the best all inclusive resort we have ever visited. From the moment we checked in until we left we were treat like royalty. This is the perfect resort to be pampered all the way around!

The hotel room was beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful when we had questions. We endjoyed the variety of foods that was offered. My favorite spot was the beach! Although it could have had more chairs. We went on two excursions--the Fun Fun Cave was wonderful and exciting! The other was to Saona island--although the ocean and island were beautiful, I didn't think this excursion was worht the cost. It was a long trip by bus, boat to just sit on another beach and have some drinks. Since it was listed as a national park I thought there would be paths and such to walk around in the jungle/woods--but only the beach. the only problem with the hotel--it was listed as adult only--but they did not seem to stop people with children from coming to the beach and food areas. I wasn't too happy when some kids got bored and started fighting on the beack--throwing sand. I would love to go back again and would stay at the same place. I've recommended it to family and co-workers.

Everything was great. My husband spoke spanish, so we got along fine, however, most staff speak little to no English, so if you are not bilingual, you may have a few issues. Our first room had a broken air conditioner. It took us about 4 hours to get a new room and they just had us lug our stuff to the next room. Kind of cheezy, but we didn't care. We just wanted a room with air. There were no appologies for the problem either. That was a little wierd. Customer service not too great, but everything else was so nice, we didn't really care. Just a note.

The resort itself was beautiful but the all the people that worked there and all the people we encountered at the airport and on the way to the resort were rude! I guess it is just the culture there? The trip to the resort was a little scary, the towns you go through are completely trashy with hundreds of people (scary people) walking around and sitting on the side of the road. 10 times worse than in mexico, we were actually concerned for our safety. The casino was a joke, twice the size of my living room with 4 or 5 gaming tables and about 15 slot machines. The food was horrible and both of us ended up getting sick our last day there. Reading previuos reviews, some people loved it and some hated it, unfortunately I hated it. Like I said the resort was beautiful, but no more so than Playa Del Carmen, I would not come back here, not even to try another resort.

very considerate, conscious staff, readily noticed i was traveling with 2 seniors over 80 years. we were put on the first level of villa 60 close to the pool and beach. take advantage of the many pillows offered. the major complaint was the bland food in some restaurants but thats cultural. did not particularly care for the don pablo seafood but el pescador was great. need to centralize tour operators. bar closes too early for an adult setting although you can travel to bavara by tram or walk but too many younger people. lobby bar hours could be extended to 1am. the ambar section could offer more night life for the over 40 crowd.

The Gran Bahia Principe Ambar was a perfect place for adults to stay. While we had our own pool with bar, we had use of all the facilities at the resort. A special thanks to the most friendly staff, especially the waitresses. Our favorite was [...]. What beautiful people the Dominicans are. Everyone was happy and helpful. The food at the buffets was very good and we especially liked the Don Pablo Restaurant, where once again, the service was impecable and so was the food. Make sure to bring enough casual clothing (long pants for men, anything but shorts for women) as the restaurants all require this attire. We thought we'd be in shorts all week, but usually spent all day in bathing suit and then dressed up for dinner and other activities. The El Olivo restaurant was okay, but we would probably not go back to it. If you go, you must take some excursions to see the native countyside. We booked ours through Coco Tours but believe that if you go to the beach you can get better deals. Just make sure the vendor is associated with the resort. Take the tour that lets you swim with the nurse sharks and rays. It was the most fun. Be sure to bring plenty of $1 bills. A few small tips gives you exceptional service, but it is not required. The people seem genuinely happy to be serving you. Would have liked for the resort to communicate their activities better. We had trouble finding out what was going on at the resort. I can't recommend this resort enough. I will definitely be going back sometime. It would be helpful to have some conversational skills in Spanish since much of the staff and others only speak a little English.

we joined my sister from Alabama for an adult vacation. It was her first experience in Punta Cana and she and her husband loved it. We have been to other resorts before, but would certainly comeback here as our first choice. The staff was extremely friendly and the service exceptional. We are also recommending it to our son and his family because the Punta Cana section and the Bavaro area of the resort were also very lovely and suited to families with children. A-1

I had never experienced this kind of service anywhere else. Any request to the front desk was answered with a "NO". [...] This was our 4th trip to Dominican and this Hotel was by far the worst experience ever. We tried to overlook some of these issue, but finally had to speak with the Hotel Manager about our concerns. If you have other choices - please pick another Hotel if you can !

After reading a lot of reviews that were helpful I wanted to "give back" something to the community. So let me first say that the hotel exceeded my expectations and I would definitely go back. The room was nicely decorated, very clean, new and everything worked. It was so advanced that the AC would actually not turn on if you left the sliding door open on the patio. Very eco-friendly! The staff were all terrific. They were ALL friendly, and they seem to really enjoy their jobs. It was like being in a musical, everyone was signing all the time while they worked. And it shows in their service. We were waited on hand and foot and always, always with a smile. And they have a tremendous number of people on staff. Someone was always available and coming by to refill your drink, or anything else you might need. The facility was spotless. Something was always being washed down, scrubbed, swept, wiped or dusted. It was really a pleasure to feel like everything was clean. I was skeptical about the food having read reviews of other "all-inclusive" resorts. My fears were unfounded. The food everywhere on premise was great. We ate at the Mediterranean place, the Dominican place, the breakfast in the main facility and lunch/brunch. All fresh. All fantastic. If you are considering a trip here I would highly recommend this hotel. I will be coming back.

Overall the hotel was very nice and clean, except for the bugs and ants in our room and many other rooms that people told us about that we spoke with. The rooms seem to be showing there use, with very little maintenance being done, our glass shower door almost was falling off and the sliding door handle did fall off when we open it the first time, things the housekeepers had to see and either didn't report them or if they did, the problems were ignored. The pool was very nice, but could use some cleaning on the walls at water level, bad signs of dirt and whatever else that showed they hadn't clean it in a while. Also there were problems with getting reservations at the resturants, and if you did when you got there, the resturant was less than off or even less than that full. It looked like they were short on help. Everyone we talked to agreed. The buffet was very good for all meals. The Villa buildings were very noisey and housekeepers and other employees were so loud from 7:30 AM, on. Lastly, after spending 11 days there, when we checked out not a sole asked how our stay was or if we enjoyed our vacation or even have a safe trip home, it was like all well, we got your money, now get going.
