The Governor Hotel is in a great location for us and the service is great! We greatly enjoyed the newly renovated room on 6th floor in the west wing. The rooms in the older section are rather small for our liking. We greatly enjoy visiting Portland.

This hotel provides great service and the rooms are really nice. I probably couldn't afford to stay here very often, but got a great 40% off deal on a penthouse suite the night before Valentine's Day because it was Friday the 13th. I would definitely stay there again in one of the regular rooms if my wallet allows, and will definitely be looking to take advantage of similar deals at this hotel in the future. Highly Recommended!

We traveled to Portland to attend baseball games over the weekend. This hotel is beautifully appointed from the lobby to the rooms to the adjoining restaurant. The bed was comfortable, the view wasn't so great, but we didn't come for the view. We enjoyed Sunday brunch in the adjoining restaurant as well as a post game snack and cocktail. If you need to get around Portland the trolley and transit lines are nearby and easier than driving and parking.

I stayed two nights at the Governor Hotel while attending a conference. I was very happy with my stay. The hotel is close to all transportation (streetcar, light rail) and within easy walking distance to sights, shops, and restaurants. My room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The staff were polite, friendly, and helpful. There are lovely architectural features worth viewing in the restaurant and meeting rooms that are not easy to find on your own; the staff can provide an information sheet and point them out upon request. I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful furnishings, historical hotel. Minor issue but it was hot that weekend, use/access to a pool would have been nice. Elegant, old-world hotel. You get the feeling of being in a storied place with it's beautiful original and reproduction features. Thoughtful modernization while maintaining the original character.

We loved staying at The Governor. Check in was quick and simple, the room was nice, and the staff was fabulous. The bed was the most incredibly comfortable one we've slept in ever and we're going to buy one for at home! You can't beat having a Starbucks right downstairs and they deliver for an extra charge. The restaurant had great scents emanating from it and we just wished we'd had an opportunity to try it. We will on our next trip to Portland when we plan to stay there again. There's an entire block of ethnic restaurants across the street on one side and easy access to the freeway. Parking was expensive though there is a much cheaper lot across from Starbucks. This is a nice place to stay. The staff makes it wonderful. You cannot beat coming back after a long day to someone who opens the door and says, "Welcome home, Mr & Mrs ____!" And then parks your car for you! Nice as it is, The Governor's rooms are a bit austere and could be improved. A heated towel bar, a roomier place to put stuff in the bathroom, more water pressure though the showerhead did a good job with what was there. Our room could have accomodated another armchair. A blower on the gas fire to extend the warmth into the room would have been nice. Why don't hotels bolt a power strip onto the wall by the desk so you won't have to climb under the desk to reach it and so that it doesn't come loose? Some artwork and a small table and lamp in the entryway would have been nice. We'll definitely book in there for our next stay in a couple of months.

The VALLET was the Great! You pay 24 for overnight! Well worth it... The HOTEL is CLEAN & SIMPLE & ELAGANT in it's own way! It was hard not to notice the nasty smoke smells around every corner. I should have done more research. O

I was in Portland visiting my daughter and stayed at The Governor on two separate occasions in the last month. The first stay I had a very pleasant room located on the third floor looking out onto Alder St. It was spacious, light/bright and tidy. The second stay I had a smaller room on the fourth floor. It was on the opposite side of the building and looked into a neighboring brick building. This room was dark and dingy feeling and alot less welcoming than the first room. Overall this hotel was just fine. It was nothing special but if you are visiting the city and not spending much time in the hotel then it is perfectly suitable. If I had paid full price for the room then I may have felt less satisfied with my stay.

Nice and Clean. Bed was really really firm, it was like sleeping on a sheet of plywood. Free wireless internet was awesome!!! Nice size room. The concierge told us that we would have to buy tickets for the max to go to the Rose Garden. That didn't sound right because I thought we were in fareless square so I went to the Tri-Met website and sure enough, it was free. Am glad I had been to downtown Portland and already knew a little about the Max or we would have wasted our money. The exercise room was wonderful. The best I have ever seen in any hotel anywhere. Overall a good experience except for the bed.

Historic hotel. First room bad thermostat. Repairman came quickly. Unfixability meant free upgrade to very nice suite. Lot abutting hotel offers 8 parking per 24 hrs from 7am. 1 block to convenience store from restaurant entrance. Near famous bookstore--Powell's. Access to rooms by strange back elevator unless staying in lovely renovated rooms with fireplaces on newer Elk's side, unavailable via internet. Did not experience dreadful smoke. Note: if you don't like room, complain. Free upgrade to superior quarters marks hotel excellence.

Beautiful historic building in the best location for anyone wanting to hang out downtown. We walked almost everywhere!! The staff is warm and helpful and the doormen are happy to give you directions as well as a friendly smile. Forgot our toothbrushes and two were quickly sent up along with toothpaste. Same with a corkscrew for the fancy bottle of wine we bought at Rite-Aid. :} Had a nice bottle of wine at the restaurant downstairs-Jake's. Good food, patient waiter and great wine list. The fireplace and city view were worth the little bit extra it cost for them. City view in our room could only be seen while laying in bed but there were three nice skylights with shutters you could open or close depending on your natural light preference. I was concerned about smoke smells after reading reviews while planning the trip. Rest assured-Not A Whiff of Cigarette Smoke!!!!! I called ahead and the desk clerk told me the hotel had been completely renovated (can't remember what year} and was a non-smoking place. She was telling the truth. I'm going back to Portland in the spring and I WILL be staying at The Governor.

I have stayed here many times. This stay the room was small. However, the rooms with verandas and fireplaces are great. Starbucks and Jakes Restaurant connected to hotel.

We had a great stay at the Governer Hotel. It was very close to the streetcar & the Max (free within fareless square), which made getting anywhere in the city very easy. We took the Max light rail from the airport (~$2.00) and it dropped us off 1 block from the hotel (stop following pioneer square, ~40 minute trip). The staff was wonderful, very patient and helpful with our many questions. We rented a car twice (Enterprise - who were also great to work with) for day trips to the gorge and the coast, they brought the vehicle to us at the hotel, and picked it up the next day. The hotel did not charge us for overnight parking for the rental car and took care of the return for us. They made everything really easy. The attached restaurant (Jake's Grill) has very good food. The "happy hour" from 3-6 has a couple of value priced meals that works out well if you arrive in the afternoon like we did. We will stay here again if we vist Portland in the future.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to people wanting excellent value for their money. It's beautiful and very upscale. However, they billed me for room service that we didn't order.

Typical "Grand Old Hotel" - Public areas are great, staff is great, rooms are clean and good to sleep in. Nothing special, but a good sleep. Jake's was very good.
