I'm a student and, obviously, I do not have much money to spare, but the hotel was great for the price point. I was concerned because the rooms were so cheap but once we drove into the parking lot all those concerns disappeared. It is very cozy. My room had a microwave and a mini fridge which was great. The staff was very welcoming and kind. They pointed us to a great shopping center down the road. I only have two complaints about the place. There is really nothing around the hotel. You have to drive about 10 minutes to get anywhere. The worst was that the walls were very thin. We heard everything. The cars going by, someone coughing in the next room and even the floorboards creaking next door. Definitely a problem for light sleepers like myself. Overall, it was a great hotel.

The door lock was broken, the sheets were dirty, the room smelled like dirty feet.

Hotel office did not open until 8 am. No one actually showed up until 8:25 am. Heat was on all night in our unit and others. Had to keep the fan on and keep windows open since no one could turn it off. Only price and proximity to UC Berkeley were worthwhile.

Great, friendly staff, cute and very clean room/shower, VERY quiet considering that it is on a main thoroughfare and that nearly the entire place was full. And the bed was very comfortable. Given the convenient location to so many amenities and UC Berkeley, this place is a treasure that I almost don't want to tell you about lest I can't get a room next time :-)

I wasn't expecting this hotel to be great, but it was actually fabulous! I typically travel in high style, but chose this one because of it's closeness to the classes I was attending. I will definitely stay here again when I return. The room was clean and comfortable, had a little refrigerator and microwave, a wonderful FAN mounted in the corner of the room (which, along with the cool California air, made sleeping quite comfy, and drowned out any noise). Parking was great - right outside my door. The motel is right in the middle of an area that is filled with restaurants (including a great cafe across the street that is open for breakfast and lunch). I will be returning to the area at least once a year, and I plan on returning to this hotel - GREAT value, friendly service, clean and convenient... even has a gas station across the street for refilling the rental car! A+ in my book!!!!

Americas Best Value Inn was inexpensive and the location was very convenient. It is less than a mile away from the North Berkeley BART station, so within walking distance.

Price. Decor, carpet was dirty - dirt rubbed off on my feet. It is an older building. The infrastructure (Carpet, tile, shower, sinks etc.) are worn and do not make you feel comfortable. The outside appearance feels cozy.

Rustic or funky is my best description of this hotel. First, let me tell you that the staff are friendly and sincere. However, the accommodations were surprisingly wanting. There is no air conditioning, a fact that is not pointed out anywhere in any ratings or descriptions. In the San Francisco area, this may not usually be an issue, but it was on our July visit. The bathroom smelled very strongly of mildew, and I would not have been able to stay there more than just a few nights. Perhaps other rooms do not have this problem. It was hard to complain about the cleanliness of the room/hotel and the comfort of the beds. They were superb! I was concerned about theft (as always with any hotel), but these folks are honest. I recommend it to someone who is not worried about amenities but wants a safe, low-cost place to stay in Berkeley. The wireless internet worked seamlessly, for this this I give them an outstanding rating.

I stayed at the Best Value Inn because it was the least expensive room reasonably close to my weekend class at UC Berkeley. It was easy to fine, surprisingly quiet considering it's on a busy street (San Pablo Ave). Staff, probably a UC student, was friendly and helpful. Room was old-fashioned, with about three colors of tile (but it was real ceramic tile--with no mildew) in the small bath. Great shower head, adequate amenity package, mini-fridge and small microwave. I was there about 12 hours, and it met my needs quite well.

The location was good & I slept well. I had free internet access. They lent me a hairdryer. There were ants in the room. Quaint, fairly comfortable hotel located near public transportation and about 10 minutes from the University of Berkeley. Office staff were friendly and efficient.

This hotel offers the essentials and a great staff. It's probably not the best place to stay for more than a couple of days because the traffic can get loud at night, but if youre just visiting the area, it offers affordable and safe accomodations. The rooms are much more sparse than they are depicted in the photos, but they are clean and neat.

The office staff was great in helping me print documents for my meeting. This quaint older hotel is in a safe neighborhood with a good restaurant and bakery across the street. The staff was very friendly and accommodating going out of their way to help me run copies for my meeting. I will definitely stay here again.

I found the Golden Bear Inn to be a satisfactory place to stay in Berkeley. It was affordable, clean, safe, and centrally located. The room was a bit worn but updates were being made, i.e. the showers. The carpets need work next. It is on a major bus line and less than 15 minutes away from the N. Berkeley BART station. After seeing the location of other hotels in the area (University Ave and Shattuck), I was glad I chose the GBI. I was traveling by myself and returned late in the evening to my room. I felt safe walking to and from the hotel.

Staff was very helpful. Carpet was old and dirty. There was no air conditioning. If the price were less, business people might like this facility. However, I'm not sure they would want a room that has no air conditioning.
