Not what you need !!I arrived tired and after a long drive on a Sunday evening. The receptionist initially could not find my reservation and while she was looking (for several minutes) was utterly silent. No polite chit chat here. The first room she put me in was a tired family room with two fold up beds and the main bed was also a fold away with a chronically bad matress. I immediately went back and asked for a better quality room. After some close questioning about why the bed was unacceptable she then issued me with another key. This time it was for a twin bedded room which was not even made up. Back again, and finally, half and hour later I was given a decent room with a decent mattress. However, by now we had wasted so much time that the pool would not allow entry even though officially they were open until 8pm and by this time it was 7.40. I promised that I would literally have a dip and come out but was told that customers had to get out of the pool at 7.30pm on Sundays so they could close on time. Interesting given that the pool was obviously very much occupied.. Grumpy and very unimpressed it was back to the room where I asked for an ice bucket to chill the bottle of wine I had brought with me. Oh no, this was not possible as the hotel had to charge corkage for wine consumed in the room which had not been purchased there. Funny, in thirty years of touring this had never happened before.. The only positive comment I can make is that the waiting staff in the dining room were wonderfully helpful and smiling. They were cheerful, worked hard to make food arrive quickly, and kept up an excellent level of customer banter.. If only the receptionist that night could have had the same attitude. All we ask for from any hotel is a comfortable bed, a warm welcome and the idea that someone might actually care whether or not you enjoy your stay. I am afraid this hotel has a great deal to learn about customer care.

Good Food, Good Golf, Good Facilities. I travel every week throughout the UK and this hotel was sensibly priced, they must have modernised it recently as the facilities were bang up to date, quality bathroom and genuinely one of the most comfortable beds i have ever slept in. I also shoot golf and their 18 hole course was in great condition. Will use again.

Excellent hotelNeeded a hotel at short notice and saw George Washington on Late rooms. As it was the night before I needed a hotel there was shortage of hotels in North East especially Sunderland town.I am originally from Washington and thought it would be rubbish but I was pleasantly surprised. Great staff, super room, clean and well appointed and very quiet, in fact there was a wedding at the hotel and a big group of girls staying on a hen weekend (fancy dress!) and we heard nothing.My husband wished he had taken his golf clubs as the course was good, although the golf shop will loan clubs for driving range. The only thing I would say is that you will need a car if you do not want to pay for taxi's as the club is on the outskirts of Washington and apart from housing estates there is no local shops or supermarkets in walking distance.

What a ridiculous policy!!This hotel looks like a tired 1970's concrete block from the outside. Inside its pretty much the same as any other fringe of city hotel. We were pleasantly surprised with the room we were given - 4 poster and corner jacuzzi but it was probably a mistake rather than a upgrade as the receptionist didnt know we were in there!!This hotel has the most ridiculous policy I have ever come across - we asked for a ice bucket for a bottle of champagne we had bought with us to dring in our room, but was told that we couldnt have one and that we couldnt drink or eat anything in our room that we hadn't purchased from them - strange! So beware, bring your own ice!!

Stay but don’t eatGood location /reasonably priced. But food? We looked at menus on booking in, the brasserie looked good, booked good location clean and good size rooms. After ordering wine told brasserie menu off table d'hote was £20 for 2 courses erved from hot table where food left stewing all evening ...had better school meals. complaint ....ignored. Stayed on room only basis this did not stop them trying to charge for two breakfasts. I might stay again if discounted rate but bring sandwiches.

Shame of a Night!Unfortunately the night was terrible after hearing some positive comments about the george washington. We didnt sleep at all bed was two singles shoved together and was so soft i felt like i had sank about a foot when i lay down. There was a plastic sheet underneath the bedsheets which rustled with every movement and then the radiator pinged on half-way through the evening making pinging noises for most of the night keeping us awake. Also loud noises from nearby rooms and somebody walking the corridor on his phone talking in the early hours didnt help but thats not the hotels fault.The leisure club also left a lot to be desired green on the surrounds of the pool, changing rooms were dirty and the showers were in a filthy condition. We were really disappointed as it was our engagement night and felt robbed by the whole stay.Very upsetting.

never againI have now stayed in this hotel 4 times and very visit there has been problem, one visit moved rooms 3 times, room service was un eatable, and this visit terrible bed, worse I have slept in for years. Alone with a rude duty manger.I will never stay there again

Recommend the Beauty Suite!I stayed here for 2 nights and can't comment on food. I didn't eat here partly because I was told nothing on arrival about the restaurants, times etc.But I absolutly DO recommend a visit to the beauty suite - MONTANA. The girls were very friendly and efficient. Had a pedicure and indian head massage - which was absolute bliss after a couple of days of hard work! Thoroughly enjoyed myself and will be staying again simply because of MONTANA! I had hoped to swim, but the pool, which is quite small is in the same room practically as the gym - which was full of guys pumping iron! Was a bit too off-putting to me, I'm afraid!

I've stayed in this hotel quite a few times through business but this is DEFINITELY the last. Over the last few years the quality of service and food has dropped quite dramatically. I have used the hotel mainly due to its location, it is nearby most of the places I visit during my working day in the area. The bar is good, if far too small for the amount of guests they can have, and they always show football matches on TV which helps pass the time while away from home.A couple of instances during my one night stay:I was left shaking my head this time at the unhelpfulness of staff. I ordered a medium rare steak which was served very well done and so dry I actually think it had been reheated. I left half of it and when signing for my bill (nobody had asked if things were OK during meal) I told the waitress (and I use the term loosely) and all she could say was \"I'll let them know.\"When I went to bar to get a drink the barman told me he would serve me in a minute and I could see he was already pouring a drink although there was nobody else at the bar. After finishing pouring a pint of coke, he necked about a third of it, wiped his mouth with his arm and said \"What can I get you?\" Obviously quenching his thirst was more important than quenching mine...All in all the hotel is nearly double the cost of what it was 3 years ago and 10 times worse.Never again!!

You get what you pay forIve stayed in far nicer and also much worse places. I payed a very reasonabl room rate so I wasnt expecting anything out of the ordinary. For the money its good value but dont expect 5 star for 3 star cost. I would definately saty again but not for a long period

DescentPositives: In general I had a nice stay. The large bed and flat panel TV were nice touches, it is a bit out of the way but if you like golf its great. Negatives: The Manager was a bit patronising when I began to tuck into a bowl of cereal that I was told was included, she then asked me to pay ten pounds for it (the price of the \"full-english\" buffet). This was later amicably resolved. The gym equipment is badly run down.

We had a loveley weekend, beinag able to chill out in the pool and sauna, relaxing in the nice bar. The hotel is very clean with friendly staff to help out. We arrived about an hour early and was unable to check inn but we were aable to use the leisure facilities (which is what we intended to do anyway) so we had no problems with any of our experienxe there. Nearly go caught out at breakfast as we didnt check the times until last minute. Breakfast is only served until 09:30, so those who like to sleep in, be aware.DDIdnt check out the golf facilities, although if i book again, i will be sure to do so.

this hotel is great the staff were great marks out of 10 was 10 i will go again thanks alan in one word fantastic ive a lot more money in other hotels this was clean the staff very good nothing to much trouble i git there at 11 oclock thay done there best to get room ready then the girl in recepsion she was very good made me feel welcome i realy enjoyed myself there would give it 100 out of 100 i loved it food good and room very clean give it a try you wont be disapointed 95 pounds for 2 and eve meal in that you wont beat that keep the good work up alan and iam welsh fabbbbbbbbbbb
