Gateway to Wales HotelNot really recommendable if you want a quiet nights sleep, the main road outside is constant 24 hours a day and the double glazing does not really keep the noise out. Otherwise the hotel was clean and the staff were friendly, a little expensive if you want to stay at the weekend but mid week prices are okay.

Ok for the priceHotel was easy to find, and plenty of parking. Food was OK, nothing special, and I didn't use the gym and pool, but it was quite small. The place was a little "fusty" and could do with a freshening up. Would probably stay again if I had to but wouldn't go out of my way to!!

GoodHotel room was nice and modern, although painting on hotel wall not complete and no air conditioning. Hotel is also situated right next to a busy dual carriage way and breakfast not included.

A hotel for businessThe Gateway Hotel was chosen for me to hold 'Workshop' for fellow business collegues. The accommodation for our meeting was a little small for the numbers we had. This was not a major problem and the sandwiches (2 trays) provided were excellent, as was the layout and drinks. All in all very good value. We would certainly book the hotel again.

I stayed at this hotel for my 21st birthday, The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, one receptionist in particular was extremely helpful, 'going that 'extra' mile' to make our stay very enjoyable...advising us where to go during the day, booked us taxis to and from our nights out and even got us guest list entry into clubs so we didnt have to pay the £10 entrance fees!!The hotel appeared to be very clean...and the rooms were cleaned everyday and you were able to have fresh linen.I didnt eat a meal in the hotel as i am a vegetarian and the selection wasnt very good however the meals did look very nice and im sure i did them out of chips...they were gorgeous!! ha.The hotel is in a very good location, just off the motorway and about 15mins away from centre of chester and 40mins away from liverpoolThe hotel has a swimming pool, sauna and steam room...though the pool was quite small it was big enough to play about in but the sauna made up for that anyway!! I would definately go back to Gateway...had a fantastic birthday here!!

Perfect!Just what you need. Probably the best value for money option in the area. The food was the best surprise. Lovely. Do bring your trainers and swimshorts, the pool and gym are great too.

little gemDecided on this hotel for a last minute getaway, did want to stay in the centre of Chester but the prices of hotels with the same facilites offered by gateway pushed the cost too high. This hotel is a little gem, approximately 6 miles from the centre of Chester. The hotel staff were lovely, too few towels had been left in our room however this was immediately rectified, we stayed for two nights and the room was cleaned each day. The pool is quite small although we were the only residents using the facilities so it felt like they were our own. Everywhere was clean, the only downside was a smell of urine in the corridor outside the room, dont know if this was the drains or an 'accident'. The first night, being an indian food lover we visited a local indian restuarant which was good, quite busy and offering a banquet for a very respectable price, it was also within easy walking distance of the hotel, allowing me to partake in a couple of pints of their own lager, the second night, after spending the day around Chester we decided to test out the food in the hotel, STUNNING AND FIRST CLASS food, quite simple dishes but beautifully arranged, prepared and presented with abundance of taste. I would restay at this hotel for the food alone. The only downside of the whole stay was the breakfast, this was not advertised as being full English although, for some reason we were expecting it as this is the norm, continental breakfast supplied with additional bacon or sausage sandwich, we headed off into Chester for a perfect end to this wonderful stay.

Arrived at 11.30pm and my room was showing at occupied but receptionist escorted me to ensure it was vacant. Very clean and comfortable. Compact bathroom but good sized towels. All staff very friendly. No full cooked breakfast but lovely bacon sandwich. Although beside motorway, windows had very good soundproofing.

shame about the noiseA clean and well presented hotel which sadly was spoilt with the noise from the local A55. A ground floor room looking straight into the small indoor pool ensured that we had to be aware of being constantly overlooked. This in effect reduced natural light to enter the room and with the rooms being well insulated the room always felt uncomfortably hot. Leaving the window open was not an option both from a security point of view and from the traffic noise. An evening meal in the resturant on arrival was best forgotten about due to its mediocracy.

Our second stay...This is our second stay at the Gateway to Wales. It is ideally located just off the motorway on a direct bus route into the centre of Chester (taxi approx £10). We had a very pleasant stay. The rooms are modern and well equipt and apart from some traffic noise early in the morning (we were given a room facing the motorway on our second stay) we have no complaints. Members of our group used the leisure facilities which were well equipt and quiet and on occasions my partner had the facilities to himself. We would definitely book Gateway to Wales again.

The Gateway to Wales looks fairly new and the rooms were very clean and fresh. The bed was comforable and the room of a reasonable size.It is quite close to a major road but it is not too busy at night and I did sleep very well even with the window open.My booking was for Bed & Breakfast and included a two course evening meal as a special offer. The food was excellent, I can't compement it enough. There was a large flat screen TV in the room which showed all the terrestrial channels, news and sports channels and Sky 1 and Discovery channels which please me immensly. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Great value stayvery pleasant & helpful staff, lovely meal (reasonably priced), room was of good standard. Chose this hotel for the \"spa\" facilities - OK you get what you pay for! Although nice the pool is very small & particularly shallow at one end so you can only swim a couple of lengths! That said, all was clean & in a good state of repair, nice sauna, steam room & jacuzzi.

Good and BadI scored the cleanliness down on the first room that I was given. It was uncleaned, the beds had been slept in, rubbish bin unemptied, towels used (with some shaving blood on for good measure!)But the hotel can be judged on it's response to the first room, which was to profusely apologise, move rooms immediately without fuss or bother.Second room I was given was first rate, well provided for (and clean). Good food in the restaurant, good service from the staff, pleasant, modern hotel. Well Worth the money paid for the room and WOULD recommend it despite first room experience.
