I stayed at the Garden Hotel (get the right one, on Da Nan Street). Don't underestimate this hotel because of its unappealing appearance. The service is superb. The room is of 4.5 star quality. The manager has experiences with int'l hotels. Thus, the hotel is run like an international hotel rather than a Chinese hotel. The only weakness is that the staff has limited English (that is true of even staff at 5-star hotels). But if you have any questions or comments, you will be able to talk to the multilingual manager. The hotel also arranges great taxi services to take you to wonderful sites. The best driver is Mr. ZHANG Zhao, who refused to take even a dime as tips. He showed me all the extra sites that i didn't know about and didn’t request. He is the best driver i have ever met. Though he doesn't speak English, he has a full collection of tourism materials in English which he plays in the car. Having been cheated/overcharged in various Chinese cities, Mr. Zhang is a treasure.
