Gamboa Rainforest Resort is located within the Soberania National Park, 30 minutes away from Panama City on the Pacific Coast, and 30 minutes from the Colon Free Zone of the Caribbean. It also lies along the banks of the Chagres River and Gatun Lake, the main water sources for the Panama Canal and part of Panamas most precious assets.

Beautiful setting along a river abutting the Panama Canal. Many activities available both day and night to help explore the rainforest and learn about the Canal and the sorrounding National park. Monkeys and Sloths can be discovered with little effort around the grounds and along the river or with a quick visit to the pipeline road area. The Charges river and sorrounding forests boast many species of colorful and song producing birds.Turtles, lizards and the world's largest rodent are all there for your pleasure. A comfortable breeze always seemed to accompany the warm days and nights. The stars were vivid due to the lack of light pollution. A joy to just sit back and take in. Less then a hour from Panama City. Restaurant fair and staff friendly. Speaking some Spanish is helpful. Enjoyed the pool but it closed at sundown. Our room with twin bed loft fit our family perfect. If you want a river jungle experience, just minutes from the Panama canal this is the place.

Well, the resort itself is a beauty. It's in the heart of the Panama rainforest GAMBOA. All the staff are very friendly, quick in understanding and effecient. Some disadvantages for non US-travellers as I am. I come from Poland. These are: the let's say 'lightning system' in the apartment (mine was of superior class) is unclear, I mean you have a lot plugs and to switch on one you have to switch off two others in the corner of the room. I do know apartments from over 55 countries...no problems.The bar service is late and the choice of snacks & food is poor. And they all believe in the US . I mean by that other convertible currencies are welcomed, but upon exchange are being strongly depreciated e.g. the EURO, forget local EU currencies. So: the US over all! The resort is some 68km away from the airport: do bargain and do not pay more than * for a one-way turn. But the monkeys compensate all our very few inconveniences.

The Resort and grounds are amazing! We went in September during the rainy season, so the hotel was nearly empty, but all restaurants and activities were still in service. It did rain a few times, but only for an hour or so, not all day. Maybe we were lucky. The service was very quick and efficient, but not overly friendly with the exception of the tour guides. The tour guides were extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about their county, animals, and fauna. Upgrade your room to the deluxe river view, it's worth it. Try to get above the 3rd floor. We saw toucans and parakeets from the VERY large balcony. Bring binoculars even if your not a bird watcher. If you go on the Monkey Island Tour - Save a few banana's from breakfast and bring them with you. The guides do not supply bananas. The aerial tram is a little pricey at $50 per person, but worth it.

If you want to get away from civilization this is the place to go. Its far from any city and a long drive from the airport. The service was great. I recommend to upgrade to the main hotle because when we arrived there they put us in a small dirty cabana with stained sheets , mold on the walls and bathroom , infested with roaches and a no a/c. We upgraded for 55 dollars more a night and were given a room in the main hotel which was beautiful. The service was first class and the food was great. Over all I would say its a great place but I would not stay there again because I enjoy traveling the cities and seeing the shops and attractions .

My wife and I took our 1 year old for a relaxing vacation, she enjoyed the spa and I went fishing in the Panama Canal. Plenty of animals on sight at the resort along with several restaurants (try the pizza for 2). The staff was very friendly and the on-site activities were great, both ones for free and pay. We literally caught a 5 gallon bucket of fish! Sloth, monkeys, coiti, manatee and more can be seen on this adventure get away. And if you just want to relax, enjoy the pool with a Coco Gamboa (a coconut fresh from one of the resort trees filled with a great drink). We will go back again and are planning to have the entire extended family go!

I have frequented the Gamboa resort frequently over the past four years in frequent visits to Gamboa. This past week however, I had an experience that turned me completely against the hotel. Members of the Gamboa community agreed to meet at the small discotheque in the resort, as they usually do every couple of weeks. Only that this week the Panamanian members of the community were not let in. When talking to the head of security, Rolando, we were vehemently told that the hotel reserves the right to admission and at any time and is private property. There are no signs posted to indicate this and since the opening of the hotel, this has never been a policy and community members have never previously been denied entrance. When I talked to the acting manager, Juan Peralta, and questioned why we (Gamboa residents, but foreigners, mostly US citizens) were let in and our friends were not, he again repeated that they reserve the right to admission at any time. Among us were dues-paying active members of the hotel, but this did not phase the manager. At no point was anyone given an explanation, let alone any ounce of courtesy, as to why our middle class Panamanian friends were not let in. As you make your plan to come to this wonderful country, I urge you to consider not supporting a company that uses the community at its convenience and discards them whenever they feel like it.

Very nice higher-end resort. Food was excellent, great variety. There are several on-site tours that can be taken. This resort is best for someone looking for peace and quiet. Staff was very friendly and eager to please. Many employess spoke English.

"I found everything very low key and relaxing, the pool is great, overlooking the wide Chagres River, you can drink at the bar in the pool, duck under the waterfall. Every room has a view, a balcony & a hammock - a necessity! The food in the restaurants was excellent! There were many more things available which I never took advantage of - I would consider going back, & it was cooler than Texas in August!"
