I have to disagree with the 2 previous reviewers, I've stayed at the G 3 times in the last 12 months and have been very happy with the place. While it may not be geared to holiday makers, it's the perfect business hotel with well appointed rooms, good facilities and a fantastic location. Frederick from Sweden must have caught the staff on a bad day, because I've always found them to be very friendly and helpful without being "over the top". As for the "double standard", I'm about as un-Chinese as you could be and I've never felt any such double standard. If you want a clean, comfortable, stylish and affordable hotel in a good location, then I'd highly recommend the G.

Wost customer service ever! Hotel is beautiful, remarkable design but when approach the reception staff seems to be not happy in welcoming guest. Our room was booked by my local chinese friend but we feel the double standard on our stay.

The hotel advertized itself as new (less than a year old) and modern design. It turned out to be a refurbished hotel furnished in second hand IKEA type furniture. The staff seemed somewhat lost when challenged with more than simple check in activities. The hallways and elevator lobbies were dark or dimly lit. The rooms are large but the furniture, if less than a year old, has had a hard life. The bathrooms are the best part of the hotel as they are very large with full sized tubs, separate shower stalls, very bright and extremely clean. The only phone in the room was next to the bed, no where near the desk, so phone calls had to be made sitting on the bed. There are better hotels for your money in Penang
