Very friendly staff. Our room smelled of cigarette smoke so bad that it made me gag. And this is a no smoking hotel! Hotel room needs to be updated. Otherwise, all else was pretty good.

I read the bad reviews when booking this hotel and kinda cringed when I made my final decision to go here. Hoping the price wasn't the only alluring aspect for me and that the good out weighed the bad. It did!! I went with my best friend and her and I spent 6 amazings days at the GR Solaris. We couldn't have been happier. I have never felt more welcomed anywhere I have been. Staff and fellows guests included. There is a great mix of guests from spring breakers to familys with young children. I never felt like I was in a day care nor did I feel I was in party central. I agree with a couple reviews that the beds could be softer. But ask for a pillow top! Ask for anything because they will go out of their way to make it happen. Don't like what's in your minibar? ASK! Need pillows? ASK! Food was good, drinks were good, reservations were quick and painless to make for dinner when needed. You couldn't walk five feet without seeing someone cleaning. We were never pressured about any time share nonsense. Buses run 24 hours and stop right in front of the hotel. 24 hour room service was fantastic. Check in and out was quick and efficient. Could do without the tan line from the bracelet you wear the entire time. lol The beach did suffer when the hurricane hit but it's still more than enough. Be aware of the flags. Lifeguards do a very good job. Make sure to ask for an umbrella if you can't find one!!! Pools are amazing. Don't let any bad reviews turn you away from this great experience!! I will be there again in FEB '10! You won't want to leave, I promise!

I stayed at GR Solaris from August 1-4 2008. The stay was amazing, the entertainment staff do an excellent job of getting everyone involved. The room was very clean but the bed a a bit hard. Overall a wonderful vacation, I will definitely stay at this hotel next time I'm in Cancun.

While in Cancun we had a wonderful time at the G.R. Solaris. The hotel is beautiful and the staff works incredibly hard to keep everything very clean. I would recommend the upgrade to the ocean view room. The balconies on the ocean side overlook the gorgeous pool and have an unobstructed view of the sea. The food was decent in all of the restaurants. It can all use a little salt and pepper, but I never tasted anything that was bad. The room service menu had many options and being available 24 hours a day is an added bonus. I would recommend ordering the Chicken Fajitas. They were excellent. The beach at the hotel is nice. It is one of the few in Cancun that still has beautiful white sand without any exposed rocks. The surf is a little rough and may not be suitable for children to swim in unattended, but being a lover of a beach with large waves, I enjoyed it. This is my second time staying at this hotel and I am already planning my next trip. Don't forget to bring some extra money to tip the staff. They work very hard to make your vacation memorable and are very appreciative when given some extra recognition.

The staff was very helpful and friendly and the resort was very clean. There was no hot water for my entire trip and we had to take hot showers in the ladies locker room. Aside from no hot water and the inconvenience of having to go to the ladies locker room to take a shower, it is an awesome place to stay. I was a little disappointed that some type of complimentary night or compenstation wasn't offered for the inconvenience.

This hotel did not live up to all the hotel star ratings it received. It is a very mediocre hotel. The room staff barely cleaned and did not restock the mini bar everyday. The restocking of the mini bar was limited to only 3 small sized "Sol" beers a day! Showers were cold and you have to somehow turn the handle at just the right angle to actually get hot water. The food was very similar for all meals and got really boring fast (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Location was pretty far from downtown Cancun. The pools were average and kind of cold. The beach front was very short and cramped between the other hotels. This is more of a family setting and not much activities, fun or entertainment for the younger crowds. There was not much to do at all. GR Solaris tried impersonate a luxurious hotel but fell far short. It was just stingy on all the hotel amenities.

My family and I had a great time here, service, beach, pool and rooms were great. Employee here are very friendly and helpful, the drinks were exceptional, the food could use some improvement but was crewable, hopefully they will get an outdoor grill for burgers and dogs. The hotel is beautiful and clean, the Adult pool is a plus, I didn't use it, but it was great for my Mother and Aunt. Can't wait for my Tequila Sunrise.

If your going to cancun, then all-inclusive is the way to go. GR solaris was a great place to stay. Easy access to the beach, walking distance to some mayan ruins, and friendly staff made it a great experience. There are some things that I would change, first, when we checked into our room the room itself was clean, but the balcony had someones cigar butts on it. Second having to make reservations for dinner early in the morning didn't work for me because I stayed up all night getting wasted on the free drinks at the bar. The location was close to shopping and the bus system runs right past the hotel. The bus costs 50 cents and takes you down the beach to where ever you want to go. Although the ride can be a little nerve racking because the bus drivers drive the buses like they a stockcars. Beware of the timeshare people. We went on the timeshare presentation, it took 90 minutes and we got some free stuff so it was worth it, but if its not your thing be on the look out. I recommend going to isla mujeres while there and get a cab tour it was awesome. Lastly buy your transportation from the airport to the hotel and back prior to the trip and know exactly what company is picking you up. One of the scams they run is telling you that you are on their list and charging you outrageous sums for a 15 minute ride. I recommend this hotel for couples and for those with kids it caters to both!

Check in was quick and painless. Resort was always sparkling clean. Food good and plentiful. You can always find something you like. Pool and pool bar were great. Entertainment staff were fantastic. Location just right...jet skiis and parasailing right on the beach in front of resort. The only negative thing I can say is beds are a bit hard but resort will put on a pillow top....just ask. Reading reviews before we left on vacation led us to expect a so-so resort. It was above all expectations!! We will go back to GR Solaris for sure.

This was our first stay in cancun and it was a great experience. The front desk were very friendly and the staff was very very nice. The food was good at the restaurant where reservations were required but at the other restaurants they were a little greasy. The pool was very nice except for the last day it was a little dirty. If you are looking for a beach vacation this is not the hotel for you. There is limited beach front. The ocean was rough with countless stones on the bottom. The location of the hotel was ok and it was very quiet. Overall the vacation was good and the hotel was good.

Everything was wonderful! Had a great time! Wonderful staff! Pool and beach were great! Entertainment staff was fun, but we did pick our location by the pool differently everyday. We wanted to relax some days so we stayed away from the entertainment site. But on days we wanted to meet people and have too much fun, we went to the main pool and had front row seats! Staff was attentive and blew our expectations out of the water!

The GR Solaris was a great stay for me and my daughter. The staff was awesome and attended to all your needs. The food was great and all the emenities were great as well. The room as well as the whole facility was very clean, and never had an issue during our stay. I recommend that you go there if you are going to Canun!!!!

This hotel was OK; borderlining on bad. About the only good thing I could say about this hotel is that it has a good pool, and if you want to sit around the pool all day and drink loads of alcohol, this is the place to do it. With that being said, the outdoor bar closes early and we were kicked out of the hot tub at 8:30pm! We moved over to the Adults Only pool (which stayed open until 10pm) only to find children swimming in the adults only pool area. Needless to say there was no consistency in the way the pool rules were enforced. The food was bad, service was not good (we ordered room service one morning and it never came), and there was not much in nightly entertainment besides some cheesy shows in the dinner timeframe. After 10pm, about the only thing to do is go to the main bar, and if you chose to dance, you had better be able to dance on a dance floor the size of a matchbox. My personal opinion is that if I am paying for an all-inclusive resort, the food and entertainment had better be excellent. From now on I will pay the extra money to make sure the food is very good, and the entertainment is abundant; otherwise, all-inclusive is not worth the money you spend.

This was our second trip to Cancun. Although our trip was fantastic, you can see how the economic downturn is impacting the tourism industry in Cancun. Many of the reviews bash the food. Here's the deal a buffet is not going to be gourmet! If you are expecting gourmet you will need to dig deeper into the wallet and don't go all-inclusive. However, GR Solaris does have a gourmet table service opportunity each evening if you make the reservations. I will say that for the price you can't find a better vacation.

Would highly recommend GR Solaris to anyone going to Cancun. I have been to Cancun 4 times and this was by far the nicest hotel I have stayed in. This was my wife and my honeymoon and this hotel went above and beyond. Was very clean and service was excellent.

This was a great vacation spot. My friend and I travelled together (we're both in our mid/late 20's) and had a blast. The resort was filled with a healthy mix of people. There were younger couples, a few scattered singles and several families. Everyone we spoke to seemed to be having a great time also. The hotel staff was fantastic. I can't say enough about them. Every single staff member we interacted with was polite and helpful. They were very focused on making their quests comfortable/happy/have a great time! My only "complaint" would be that the walls of the rooms are a bit thin. You can hear your neighbors. This really didn't bother us that much though. Everything else about the stay was so great, we hardly noticed. Suggestion, eat at the Marco Polo. Food was great. Room service is also included 24hrs a day. We did take advantage of that a few times. There's nothing better than a great breakfast brought to you while you sit on the balcony watching the waves! I would highly recommend this hotel to any of my friends/family/coworkers.

Went in the swimming pool, drank in the pool, ate at all the restaurants that were there. There's nothing more I could ask for, it was the first time there. It was great. I would go back in a heart beat. Every single person in the staff was polite, nice, wonderful.

This is was our 2nd stay at the GR Solaris. It was just as fun as the first time we visited. There are fun activities around the pool area all day. The entertainment staff is very friendly and always full of energy. We arrived early, and our room was ready. We even got a free upgrade because it was our second stay at the resort. We had no problem with the food or drinks at the resort. We took the city bus into town every night. It is very convenient, safe, and cheap. We had a great time at Margaritaville and Pat O'Brians. Shop at the mall by Carlos and Charlies. . . it is much cheaper than the "straw market". They are way too pushy at the market. I love GR Solaris so much that I am planning to attend again this summer.

everything was clean but the food was just okay to me, lots that I didn't like to try.. we ate most meals on site but left for several day excursions.. we were tricked into a lengthy sales presentation and got out of it mid-way because I was very ill for the first 24 hrs of the trip.. we had a honeymoon suite and enjoyed a balcony and private jucuzzi.. the place was very nice although sound did travel through hallways and walls at any hours of the night although it was not a big problem for us
