A great location only 5 blocks from the downtown cable car turnaround, 2 blocks from Union Square, and very close to the Westfield Shopping Center. The staff was very knowledgeable and courteous. I would go back to the Hotel Frank in a heartbeat !!!!

Large room with upscale modern decor, great location. I was pleasantly surprised. My room was ultra modern and very large. The location was fabulous and the staff was the best! I would most certainly recommend this hotel to my friends and will stay here again in the future.

I had stayed in Hotel Maxwell for 3 days and couldn't believe how I enjoyed to stay in the district and the hotel when I left. Though Hotel Maxwell is currently undergoing renovation, not much inconvenience is caused (other than the rather slow elevator). Apart from the rather old carpet and wall paper (anyway all of them will be renovated sooner or later), Hotel Maxwell is a value pick from all the rather expensive hotel in the region. Situated in downtown San Francisco, Hotel Maxwell is quite convenient in its location, with walkable distance to Union Square, China Town, SOMA...not to mention its transportation network (easy accessibility to Street Car Station, Cable Car Station, and bus stations). 24 hours open pharmacy and fast food shops are available in the neighborhood in less than 5 minutes walk form the hotel. Staying in the hotel around Union Square allows the guests to wander around the shops( Macy's, Gap, Old Navy, Forever 21, and many more brands) , boutiques and restaurants until late at night. Since the streets are still full of people after 9 o'clock, first- time comers to the city can feel more or less safe in the surrounding neighborhood. Also, the staff from the reception counter, the concierge to the cleaning maid are all helpful and nice.

My friend and i got lost trying to find the hotel, it was difficult to find it because the streets are all named differently and most of them are one way. But if you own a navigator it should be smooth. We called the hotel so many times that by the time we arrived they already knew who we were. Awesome stuff i would deffenetly stay there again :0)

The restaurant in the hotel was the only half decent thing about it. Everything else. The staff was horribly rude and unaccommodating. The entire hotel was undergoing renovations and parts were blocked off the elevator wouldn't work. They almost gave my car away to someone else in the valet parking lot. From start to finish this was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to my worst enemy.

I have enjoyed my stay here very much. This hotel is simple with no frills. The service is friendly, helpful and the staff has taken initiative to try to make my stay pleasant. They were fast and friendly. The room was clean and the bathroom too..the tiles clean and new looking. The location is awesome..close to union square, shopping, art galleries and the night life and great places to eat. (some street noise but that can't be helped) Oh, and Max's is part of the building...fantastic food at Max's. This was a great value..it was much less than some of the other upscale hotels all around it and I was content. I have often stayed at the fairmont in SF and you really can't compare the two but honestly I felt equally or more valued as a customer than I did when I stayed there. and I had more money to buy art because I didnt give it to the hotel ;) The elevators were slow..they were available but slow. I am healthy and strong..I used the stairs when I didnt want to wait a couple minutes for it. I will recommend this hotel to everyone and I will stay here again. My friend who owns a bar here in SF said he will also recommend this hotel to guests visiting SF.

The rooms were pretty cool & hip. The location was awesome. So close to everything that you need within a block. I became really irritated with the nose. You can hear everything at this hotel. I also ran into a problem with a random stranger knocking on my door several times. The lady at the front desk was not much help at all. She said there was nothing she could so about it. But after a bit of complaining i got a hold of a manager and the problem was finally resolved.

The hotel was completely run down. The hotel was just about to undergo a serious, much needed renovation effort. Unfortunately I got into the hotel right before that renovation happened. Well, actually the renovation had already started. The general areas of the hotel were dirty and run down. Dust was piling up. This hotel was an embarrassment.

This Hotel was rated 4 stars i'm not sure by whom because it was more like a .5 star Hotel i was told at check in parking was free but at check out i had to payt 95.76 for parking. The bed was old and worn out. DO NOT STAY THERE Pay the extra money and stay at a better hotel

Great location, walking distance to everything: BART, bus, Chinatown, shopping, etc. Rooms are fairly small and the beds are full size, not queens or kings, but definitely worth it for the price. Renovations are still being done though.

Hard to say but it had great closet space. It was under renovation, the hotel loked so dirty. It was difficult to find a parking space, you better have forty bucks for valet, and you need it! The elevator was an awful site, it seemed it was about to fall apart. The rooms had an old interior look and bathroom was very small but it was a one night stay, I wouldn't recommend it for more than one night.

Freindly, helpfull staff. Nice, relatively big room for the money. The maid service kept the room clean and left new soap and shampoo every day. A good choice for downtown as it is close to the cable car line and the rail lines. A car is an unnecessary burden if staying downtown. Get a citypass instead.

I was pleased with the room and location of the hotel. The problem was with the night desk man. We were attempting to arrange airport trasportation and we waited at the counter for nearly 20 min. We asked the front desk man (bald,40's, glasses, and rude on 12/23/07 at 8:00 p.m.) if we could arrange with him instead of the bell-hop due to the fact the bell-hop seemed to be missing in action. He was quick and short with me explainning in a most-inconvienced tone that it was not his job to do that and that I will just have to wait. I asked him when do you expect him back, and he said he did not know and that again, was not his job. For a place of business to make no attempt to assist me but to take my money was a little disappointing. I enjoyed this hotel and I did not let one person ruin a perfectly good vacation. But, I am also a believer that the owner of this hotel would not have tolerated his behavior and I plan to tell everyone I know that is going to San Fransisco to skip the Maxwell!

Hotel Frank is tucked in a busy, odd part of SF. It's less than two blocks to Union Square, 1 block from ACT Theatre, and close to Market street. The staff are helpful and professional, rooms are clean and new. Just be prepared for the neighborhood. No free parking is available, and runs around $35 a day. You also will see all types walking the street. It's not scary as much as strange and sad.

Hard to say. The value of this hotel was poor. Maxwell is under construction. It was beyond loud. The elevator -never available. Several things broken in room. It was not a very good experience staying there when it is still the Maxwell and is under construction.

This is the review you'll want to read before booking at any hotel. I am 20 years old who is what people could say "diva/spoiled". But I just have high expectations especially when I am going on vacation and am willing to put down any amount of money for a memorable trip. I went to San Francisco with my cousin/best friend, we vacation a lot, spend a lot and expected to treated fairly. Hotel Frank has one of the best Bell Men's you could possibly ask for, his name is [...]. He's an older gentlemen could possibly be my grandpa but has a soul of a young man at heart. He greeted us at the door, took our luggage and asked us right away what we were here for and what we wanted to do. Like I said, I spend of a lot of money & I wanted my trip to be memorable. [...]made it happen. We went on one of those double decker buses and it was AMAZING, it was the funniest 3 1/2hr ride of my life there. If you get lucky, you'll be on a buss full of older people who don't mind if you are giggling with your best friend and snapping pictures whenever you feel like it. We went to the fishermen's dwarf, it was "ok" not much to do once you finished eating street food & shopping at the little gift shops. About the hotel: The bathroom sink is outside of the bathroom, which sucked because it was inconvenient to walk out of the bathroom than wash your hands. There is only one mirror and no body mirror if you are traveling with girlfriends expect to share the mirror or take turns getting ready in the morning. Some of the front desk agents, did not talk to us while waiting in the lobby, and all the other bell men EXCEPT for Jack were rude to us as well. Now another reason why I noticed all of these things is because I have a degree in Travel & Hospitality, I interned at the Crowne Plaza - River Front in St. Paul, MN for 2 months so I know how a hotel works. But like I said, Jack made things happen, when things did go right like, when we booked the Bay Cruise thru the hotel and the bus never came

The location was perfect for me. The hotel has beautiful architecture. It is under going renovation. That didn't adversely affect my visit. Nothing I didn't like. Beautiful hotel. Excellent location.
