A real curates eggBeautiful location, lovely sweeping lawns, swimming pool, sauna, maze of corridors linking two storey "houses" that formed the hotel - some with balconies, potential to be a superb luxury hotel. However, our deluxe room failed to live up to its surroundings. Decour was dark and dated with a small hard double bed and in need of decorating. The bathroom was awful. The wash basin had a large black germ-attracting crack from top to plughole. The shower was in the bath and had a cheap plastic curtain that was too short and regularly blew outside the bath flooding the floor. The white plastic shower head was broken and dispensed water in all directions except on the person showering. The electric razor point did not work so I was unable to have a shave all weekend. When I asked for it to be fixed I was told the maintenance people only worked Monday to Friday. A great shame for such a gorgeous location with beautiful towpath walks into Oxford City Centre.

Nice quiet breakWe decided to have a couple of days in Oxford as a brak from the routine. We could not have been more delighted with this stunning country hotel. From the impressive drive up to the car park , to the entrance and reception we instantly knew we had chosen wisely. The service was great, the pool and rooms really nice. If there was a small drawback the quality of choice and food from the dining room for the price was not as good as it could be.The second noght we ate in the bar which has a great menu and is value for money.Apart from that it was a great stay , with a great quality of service,location, upkeep and available options.

Beautiful location and setting. Lovely old hotel. a bit disappointed with food. expensive for what it was. but definitely a nice place to stay. staff very friendly.

Lovely hotel, very relaxing.We went away for our anniversary, the hotel is amazing and the staff very welcoming and helpful. We ate in the restaurant and the food was really good. We also took a stroll around the grounds which are well kept and the views are great. Would definately return. If you do go into oxford, punting is a must.

Dining experienceThe dining experience was mixed - breakfast was fine but I did see people queuing a long time while used tables were not quickly brought back into service. On the second night the meal took a long time to come, after two chosen bottles of wine were not avalable, and we waited a long time to be informed of the fact.

An excellent hotel in a lovely setting, with a very nice pool. The food was very good, although the restaurant service was not as efficient as it could have been.

lovely hotel in beautiful surroundingsStayed here for a short break. Our room was in the old part - very spacious and clean. Loved the location on the river Thames and able to take riverside walks. Staff very accomodating. Swimming pool was warm and attractive. Dining room looked out over the river. Lovely and quiet. A relaxing break!

Excellent hotel. Very clean and well maintained. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Stayed in a deluxe room which was wonderful as it had patio doors leading out onto a small paved area in the gardens. Grounds lovely to wander around, right on the river Thames. Tennis court great. Didn't get time to use the other leisure facilities but they looked very good indeed. Would definately go back.

Four star?Friendly check in. When finding our room we noticed that the chambermaid had left the trolley and vacuum and other supplies in the corridor near fire exit and bits and pieces left on the window sill. Room smelt musty when entering which we felt was coming from the bathroom. The telephone by our bed was not clean as there was a sticky substance over the buttons. Wasn't over impressed by our \"delux\" room. The view was nice though and the food was excellent however the Maitre De was not very engaging and although the restaurant was busy we had to ask for service after a wait. We requested a paper which never arrived the next morning. Overall it was an average hotel, being a frequent travel I expected just a little bit more.

Oxford Thames Four Pillars reviewMy husband and I stayed at the Oxford Thames Four Pillars recently and found it to be a lovely hotel, situated within it's own grounds and a short drive (approx 3 miles) from Oxford City centre. The hotel facilities were excellent and I would definately stay there again. Our allocated room had all the usual features you would expect from the 4* star hotel and was spotlessly clean.Mrs Michelle Barber

A very attractive hotel on the banks of the Thames. Staff very courteous and polite. Room lovely. Had one evening meal during our stay - delicious. A little pricey, but I believe you get what you pay for. Breakfasts good each day, plenty of choice. Overall a good choice of hotel. The roads round the area were a bit of a labyrinthe but we found things in the end!

Lovely hotel. Room was clean and very comfortable. The pool was lovely and quiet, food excellent and staff extremely helpul. Excellent setting for a relaxing break or a base for sightseeing. Would highly recommend.

They don't respond to complaint lettersThey don't respond to complaint letters and I have had several bad expoeriences. It is a shame because the actual building and facilities are great.I stay simply becuase of convenience but would not receommend this to anybody - I have recently had to put up quite a few people from South Africa and my most recent experience made me divert them away from this hotel

Great weekend at an excellent hotelWould highly recommend this lovely country hotel on the outskirts of Oxford overlooking the Thames. Plenty of room to walk around the spacious grounds and the hotel pool was of a very high standard. Couple of minor problems with our room which were promptly and efficiently dealt with. We only ate breakfast at the hotel, which was excellent quality and good choices. We dined at Le Manoir! which was a present from our children. Would recommend this hotel to both couples and families as the facilities cater for everybody.

Nice hotel in great locationI was slightly nervous about booking here due to the negative comments on Trip Advisor, but found the hotel exceeded our expectations. Really lovely room opening onto a nice garden, reasonably spacious, decent en suite and very clean throughout. Breakfast was awesome but we didn't eat at the hotel apart from that. Customer service was generally good. There's a nice bar/lounge for relaxing, and the leisure facilities were great - pool, sauna and jaccuzzi were deserted at 8am for a pre-breakfast swim. Would definitely recommend a stay here, and also a trip to the New Mole Inn which is a gastro pub a couple of miles down the road. Being able to park for free at the sister hotel closer to the centre of Oxford was a bonus too.
