We loved coming home after a long day of activities to a quiet, well kept, beautiful location, with staff who were friendly, helpful, and extremely competent. the grounds are very beautiful, so we enjoyed walking around the back of the hotel in the morning and at night to see the grounds, the incredible koi fish, and the swans. We also enjoyed playing tennis on their free use tennis courts for guests, and the fitness center is one of the few at hotels I have been to that actually has a lot of useful equipment. The hotel is close to the beaches and other attractions (such as Busch Gardens), but far enough away from the usual tourism crowds to allow for relaxation and privacy.

Beautiful grounds, lake, pools and very helpful staff Slightly musty smell in room from airconditioning The room was very comfortable, clean and inviting. In room internet connection was provided. I was very impressed by the helpful and friendly staff I met -- from the front desk to the cleaning staff. The grounds, pool and lake were beautiful. I wished I had more time to enjoy them. A beverage and quick breakfast table was setup by the pools. I don't know if this is normal, but it was a pleasant way to enjoy breakfast. I had a egg, bacon and cheese muffin sandwich that was great -- very hot and tasty. My family plans to return.

I would highly recommend the Founders Inn and Spa, top-notch all round. Beautiful estate like gardens and grounds, fabulous pool, great dining in the Hunt Room. Close to shopping. Friendly fast service. Beautifully appointed rooms and surroundings. I would absolutely stay there again and will look for this hotel group in other locations.

Went on the 4th of July weekend. Was about 20 minutes away from the beach but the hotel was quiet, clean and we pratically had the pool to ourselves. The staff was very friendly and for the price we paid for 4 nights, was well worth it.

Welcoming staff. Room outdated/not set up for business travelers.

This is probably the best hotel in Virginia Beach. The property is gorgeous and the staff is great. The rates are reasonable, probably because it is not located on the Oceanfront. I've stayed at the Founders Inn three or four times, and I will be back!

The location. The room. Its decorated with old furniture. The room is dated. The furnishings are old. The carpet in the hallways is old and a little smelly. The building I stayed in was dimly lit. The general area outside the buildings is dark. My toilet was broken the first night and it made this awful noise all night. Of course it was repaired the following day but that didn't help my first night stay.

The hotel was great. Staff were very frenly and helpful, like with directions for places to go. I felt safe enough for the kids (13 & 14) to go to the pool etc on there own. The room was very comfortable even after six nights. I had a facial & manicure on the last day what a way to go!!! The only thing was I wish the menus were a little more kid freindly. I wish there were more of this hotel chain around or closer. I would love to do do a long weekend trip to one.

Trip for business involving multiple visits in the area. Centrally located if going to VA Beach, Norfolk & Portsmouth (and burbs). Stay was like being in University dorm; a bit stale but grounds are well manicured. Looks like it would be a good place to go with family, however there were not many guests.

Nice, neat, not a chain hotel. Seemed dated, not well equiped for business travelers. Great location and value for travellers in the Virginia Beach area who don't necessarily need to be on the beach.

After a long day and evening at the beach with the family I came back to find out my room keys didn't work. I went to the front desk and they said they locked me out because they wanted a card on file. The front desk said 'this was how they communicate'. Well locking someone and their families out of their rooms in the middle of the night is something I figured a cheaper hotel would do not one I spent over a thousand dollars on. And the front desk worker must have been a big believer in 'will to power' as it was some how it was my fault. There were also issues with the staff not being trained on service. In the end its just a shabby, vacant Inn run by untrained/unprofessional locals. I'd have rather gone to a marriott or sheraton for the money.

Perfect location between my destinations of Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, and the Outer Banks. Beautiful on the inside and out...the room was fabulous and the grounds were very well kept.

The restaurant, the brick structure and gardens. The ROOM. The room was a nightmare/joke - hotel room. Mold bathroom, dirty bathroom toilet, dirty bathroom tiles and broken toilet seat. Dirty completed clogged air filter, dirty carpet and cob webs, dirty walls when walked in room, unmatched linens, drapes, chair and carpet

While this hotel is an okay experience; it is not the quality of a true spa experience or what I would call a resort. The hotel is on a college campus and the entire experience felt more like a mid-range hotel and not a higher level hotel experience. For the price, I would choose another hotel in the future rather than this one. The rooms are clean; the staff very friendly; and the property fairly well maintained. It feels very safe to be in the hotel and around the grounds. It is more of a family vacation spot, not a place for a romantic spa eetreat weekend.

Beautiful Grounds, However there was alot to be desired in the service. No one was jumping to help at anytime. I got to room at 9 pm and door was open to my room, No one around felt a little unsafe walking in a open dark room by ones self. My room ended up leaking with a large amount of rain from bad weather, so instead of moving me to a improved room as sort of a appology for the inconvinience I was moved to the room next to the ice machine. After packing my stuff once I was not about to ask for a different room, customer service should have known better. I am in a job that is customer driven and I would want to make this persons stay much better after having to come back to a room that was less then excellent. They offered us complimentary breakfast for our inconvinience, but I hate to say this I have had better free continental breakfast at a hotel for half the price. Then I had to make a large shipment from the hotel I had to bring in a number of large boxes and wheel them down to the business center with out a word of " can we help?" until I reached the business center then the lady that was helping with my shipment was excellent and apologized for no help with all my boxes. It was a major disappointment. I would never let such a beautiful place slip like that if I were the management.

This hotel has an amazing staff. I have never stayed in a hotel where not one single staff member let me walk past without a greeting. Every single person smiled and said something pleasent. The entire facility is clean, from the guest rooms to the exercise rooms and the grounds themselves...spotless. We asked for assistance only twice but both times we waited less then 10 minutes before somone came to the room with what was requested. I also felt safe as the rooms and buildings are locked after 6pm and can only be entered with a guest key. I would only return to Virginia Beach if we stayed at the Founder's Inn. It is one of the best hotels I have stayed at in any city.

The area was beautiful! When it wasn't raining, I was able to take a few peaceful walks around the hotel. I will be going back for business again next year and have already asked my husband and kids to join me. They will be content to just swim in the pool, play on the playscape and explore the grounds.

I liked that it was clean. The lack of communication among staff and extreme inconveniences experienced during the entire week. Room with a single bed the next night, and then switch to a room with two beds for the rest of the stay as the second night they were booked solid and did not have a room with two beds available. We were also asked if we wanted to place a credit card on file with the hotel. Placed luggage on luggage cart ourselves and moved into room that night. The next morning, we packed up all our bags, put them on a luggage cart ourselves again. When we went to the front desk and explained we were told to switch rooms, the hotel representative said "oh you're in room 2305? I'm so sorry, I should have called you this morning, you don't have to move rooms. We became extremely upset at this point as we had just spent over half an hour of our vacation packing up our stuff. Now we had to move back into the same room and unpack. Mid-week we were woken up at 9:00 am to hear them remodeling the room next to us. There was hammering until about noon. Our faucet was also leaking during our stay. We complained to the front desk about both the remodeling noise and the leaky faucet. We were told the faucet would be repaired and the worst of the remodeling was over with. For our inconvenience, we would receive a free Sunday brunch at their on site restaurant called the Swan Terra.
