This hotel, as well as most every other hotel I saw in Costa Rica, was probably very, very nice back when it was new (1980s?). Back in the day, when only the rich and famous went to Costa Rica, the hotels were probably excellent. However, the paint has faded, the tile has chipped, and the sun has beaten them down to where they are "has-beens". I went to Costa Rica with high expectations (perhaps too high) and found it to be overrated and expensive for what it is.

If you are looking for a place to relax, this is it. Their slogan, "Pura Vida" that is "Pure Life" is exactly what is is here. The hotel staff is awesome!

The room accommodated our request for two adults with two children well. The beach was good and the staff very kind. It was under renovation. No main pool; no full-time restaurant; no bar/casino. I'm sure that once the renovations are complete, this will be a wonderful property. In its current condition, it is not nearly worth the price.

I went to Costa Rica from Feb. 4th - Feb. 9th. I did A LOT of research before booking the Flamingo Beach Resort and was very skeptical. When I got there I was impressed. It is not a 5 star hotel but it was a lot nicer than I expected. The hotel has a great modern lobby, pool area, swim up bar. The casino was open when I went and had many visitors. Both nights the blackjack tables were full. The casino is still under construction but they are working on it to make it better. The rooms were big and did the job. We did tours during the day so were barely in the room. The electricity went out a few times but only for a minute at a time. I am not sure if this always happens or it happened b/c of the storm taking place while we were there, however, this did not bother me or affect my time. The food at the hotel is average. But there are really good restaurants in the area. Golden Shrimp, Mar Y Sol, Happy Snapper, Angelicas & Marie's. My only real complaint was that the tour desk disappointed me by not following up on me for a specific tour I wanted to do. So I wound up leaving Costa Rica without doing it. However, there are other great people in the area to speak to about tours. X (above the sub shop) was extremely helpful. Other than that I would highly recommend this hotel. Just keep in mind it is not luxurious but still very beautiful.

We spent spring break here with two kids (10 and 14), and here's a look at our experience:Good* good location - across street from nice beach with fabulous view and sunset.* nice staff, helpful and friendly* nice pool, good for kids* rooms are big, beds decent* no issues with notel reservation or (almost all) flightsNot So* no fridge in room - tough to do anything but buy all food and drinks elsewhere.* noisy - pool-view room = disco and pool noise non-stop until around 10-11pm.* low water pressure for showers - hardly a trickle at times.Bad* food and drink prices - Costa Rica is no bargain at Playa Flamingo. 8 margaritas and drinks, mediocre food, and count on spending 50 or more (2 adults, 2 kids) at any meal. When you almost have to eat every meal out, that adds up fast for cheapskates like us. I'm sure we could have spent less if we knew more....* Flight problem - though we booked our trip in August last year, we still did NOT have seats on our flight out of Denver for some reason. We were the last 4 people on the plane. We had done all the early checkin and things you're supposed to do, but all travel people we spoke to had said "don't worry about it". That's not ok. We got on, but it was touch and go.We would probably have done better by reserving a condo and doing most of our own breakfasts and lunches--it's more our style. We did get by at the hotel with the ice bucket and lots of Zip-loks, but it was frustrating. First trip to CR, so we'll learn from it.

The hotel is very comfortable and the service is very responsive and kind. The pool area is right off the beach and was very clean. The rooms - choose a pool view on floors two or three - are newly remodeled and have nice balconies that all (or at least most) have at least some view of the ocean. Food is so-so but with many restaurants in the area, it's fun to explore. Be sure and take some days away from Flamingo to see Monteverde and Arenal! Also, shuttles and taxis are perfectly adequate all over Costa Rica if you don't want the hassle of a car rental.

We've already booked our 3rd trip back to this resort. This resort has everything you need within walking distance or a very short and inexpensive taxi ride. We could eat at a different restaurant every day. Most restaurants will pick you up at no charge. Front desk will call the restaurant and they will send van to pick you up. 2 block walk to shopping. Buy snacks'drinks at local grocery store and keep in your room fridge if you want to save money. Very friendly locals, well organized day trips. Rent a vehicle in town and drive around to explore. Tamarindo about 30 minutes away and has a surf town atmosphere. Clean beach go to Playa Conchal (10 minutes away) for beach snorkling or I recommend the sunset snorkel cruise. Staff have always been helpful and friendly. Simple, clean and friendly resort.

I tried to check in to the Flamingo Beach Hotel and they said they didn't ever receive a reservation from online travel website. The place was fully booked and they refused to let me stay there. After spending ONE HOUR on an international call with online travel website customer support, the issue was not resolved and I had to find MY OWN room elsewhere. The place cost MUCH MORE than my original reservation. On top of that, I still have not had the that was PREPAID through online travel website refunded yet despite that the customer service rep me he had already credited my card back! I cannot believe after all that time spent on hold, that this has not been done. At the backup hotel where I stayed, we met another couple who also said the Flamingo Beach Hotel had "lost" their reservation. SO WARNING, if you are planning on staying there (it is a nice place despite my anger with the reservation system of T and FBH) you absolutely must confirm your reservation. Consider yourself warned. The last thing you want is to arrive in a foreign country without a place to stay.

The staff was great, more than accomodating to all requests. The beach was beautiful, with very few people, as if we had it to ourselves.(we went during the "rainy season" but never saw rain while at the hotel) It does rain, hence the name rain forest, but only on one of our many excursions. We did the hotel offering Arenal Volcano and Hot Springs tour which was magical. The hotel also offered ATV tours through the beach and mountain roads on your way to a zip line canopy tour. (here we saw the famous rain) PROS- Giant pool with swim up bar, super friendly staff, price, helpful concierge, clean, secluded beach with awesome sunsets CONS-Restaurant was hit or miss(breakfast was fine, the rest was marginal) not much to do locally within walking distance, The local birds are very loud at sunrise and sunset (no daylight savings time, the sun is UP at 5AM, and sets at 6, in late June)

I stayed at this hotel with my fiance in June and had one of the worst experiences of my life. In my opinion this hotel is not safe. The hotel staff issued us a bad key kept the good key. This was verified by the key reader in the room. After the manager saw the unathorized entry the manager offered to fix the problem however now he will not even return my phone calls. Please be careful when you stay at this hotel.

It was a bit of a journey to get to, but the Flamingo Beach Resort was a pleasant oasis and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The free breakfast and lunches in the outdoor dining area overlooking the water were very good. The dinner in the more formal restaurant was not as good, but the next day we ate at Marie's accross the street and had an excellent dinner of local fish. The hotel staff were helpful in arranging transfers. My 6 yr old son loved the huge pool and swim-up bar. There is a small grocery and drug store nearby, and a steep walk up the road gives great views of the Pacific

Extremely friendly staff especially those working at the onsite restaurant. We had a very relaxing and much needed vacation. The pool was fantastic and always clean. Our only complaint is with housekeeping. Although the housekeeping staff is friendly as well, they don't do a very good job with cleaning the rooms. We always had to ask for washclothes and/or other missing items and the floors were hardly swept. Other than that one complaint we loved our vacation at Flamingo Beach Resort in Costa Rica.

The best thing Costa Rica has is its people. Very respectfull and educated. They are very appreciative people. We went to some tours, and drove around quite a bit.

Every thing was real nice except for the dining room. The prices were obscene with the very small amount of food that was served. When you were done eating you were still hungry.

All of the Flamingo Resort staff were super. They had great suggestions for off-site dining and transportation to get there. The opportunities to book various excursions was fantastic. We booked three excurision on three different days. They were all as described and very affordable. The only problem we encountered during our six day stay was one night in the resort restaurant they were out of steak. What a disappointment. However, our second choices were superb. The pool and swim bar were great.

The hotel is very nice but kind of far from nightlife if you aren't planning on renting a car. The taxi's basically rob you; charging you $35-$40 to get to Tamarindo (the center of all the nightlife in this part of Costa Rica). There are a few restaurants outside of the hotel that are good but other than that not very much. The staff is very helpful and accomodating. We asked for a room change b/c our airconditioner was broken and were able to move to another room across the hall without any problems. The guest rooms are nicer than the studio's so don't bother upgrading. On another note about the staff, don't ask them for dinner recommendations. They will all send you to this place called Camerones Dorado. The food is okay but the service is slow. They send you there b/c the hotel gets some sort of commission. Do other research before you go to find out about good places to eat. Many are in Tamarindo. By the hotel, Amberes and Marie's is pretty good. The gym at the hotel is a joke. The food at the hotel is horrendous. Those would be my only two complaints. Otherwise, like I mentioned, the guest rooms are clean and really nice. The pool is a good size and the beach is right in front of the hotel. Don't listen to people who complain about having to cross the street. The hotel is right there. The area in general looked very safe. It's not the most developed part of Costa Rica but it's a great location if you plan on doing excursions. Most are only 2-3 hours away. Also, after adjusting to it, it was kind of nice to be in an underdeveloped area. Wherever we went you were able to mingle with other travelers and locals

"I went to Costa Rica to do business. It was important that I have internet service in my room. The hotel advertised that they had in-room high-speed internet, but in fact they didn't. I informed them I had to change hotels so I could have this service. They informed me my advance payment of the room was not refundable "
