The staff, food and pools where great

The pool area was wonderful and the staff working there were terrific. The people at the front desk weren't very friendly and couldn't give us change for tips. The hotel is quite pretty - up on a hill with a wonderful view of the Marina and the ocean. The facilities are very clean; there are several pools and terrific food at both the restaurant and the pool bar. Some of the rooms are a bit of a hike, so if you have trouble with that, be sure to check ahead. Also, the gym is difficult to get to and has very little equipment.

This is my fifth time staying here (and 7th trip to Cabo) and I will be back! This hotel is the original, or one of the original hotels in Cabo so don't expect top of the line amenities or great upgrades. You won't find that here. What the Finisterra does provide is THE best beach in Cabo. Private with very few people on it at any time. The rooms have always been extremely clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The maid service was wonderful. The food at the Palapa (pool), I thought, was better than the Whale Watcher Bar but you cannot beat the view from the Whale Watcher. The hotel is located maybe half a mile to the marina so I never took a taxi to get anywhere within the city. It's close to downtown yet the beach is the most private and quiet. On the downside: the beds aren't the greatest and I wish they would get fitted sheets! Those slid off every night! The bath towels should be upgraded as well as the sheets and comforters. Otherwise, I would not hesitate to stay there again. WONDERFUL!

Just got back from staying at the Finisterra. There were the 3 of us, husband, teenage son, and myself. I don't know that I would reccomend this hotel for teenagers as my son only met one other 16 yr old while we were there. He did met lots of (older) people to play volleyball with in the pool. I would have him bring a friend next time or stay somewhere else close to the marina. Thought I had done good research. Mostly good comments but a few thoughts to share. This hotel has the best location. Everything is at your doorstep, marina, mall, downtown, market. Our only real issues were with letting staff from a cruise ship use the pool for a day and they were loud and drunk. However, the families from the Disney boat were very nice and we had fun with them (the hotel lets the cruise boats use their pools). The pool area could have been kept cleaner, same trash was there for days and the pool bar staff were a little slow cleaning up after people (food, dishes). But all 3 pools were beautiful and mostly quiet. The staff for the most part were very nice, but we did not get the feeling of being "spoiled" like we have at other hotels. Whale watcher bar is a must, we saw dolphins one night. Breakfast at the Blue marlin is very good too. Order the nachos from the pool bar! Previous reviewers said construction was an issue, we had no complaints. I only remember hearing it one day and even that wasn't bad. Rooms were kept clean and we had one lady inspect after the maid cleaned. We did leave a 3-4 tip each day. Beds were very firm, but asking for additional pillows. Excellent location!!

The hotel staff was very friendly and the location is very good. Did not seem like there were very many people staying there. It is within walking distance to the marina and downtown.

Hotel was an old section not acceptable for senior the place smell like fish also it had a water leak in the roof flooding the hallway and living. the staff was not willing to compensate for the inconvenience. I reserved two rooms for me and my wife and another couple, since they were under 1 name they decided to give us an older 2 bedroom. They claimed that was what I reserved. The couple that went with us are in there 70's unable to climb the hill between the lobby and the rooms. They were not willing to find us rooms more accessible.

Stayed there as a mature couple seeking a quiet, relaxing romantic retreat by the Ocean. After reading others reports, we hesitated but finally decided to go. NO REGRETS. Stayed March 8-14, 2009. Place is quiet, no evening band or loud music, pool during the day was just great with some annoyances from a next door new construction in final stages, but ok. Stayed ON the beach with 4 or 6 other people. Great walk by the Ocean. NO SWIMMING make sense when you see waves rolling in. Blue Marlin restaurant great food, and walking distance from the Marina. Comments about the Hill to get to reception are out of reality, and hotel shuttle by the gate helps people in need. Would recommend for peaceful vacation, but not if you want to swim in the Sea each day.

I recently returned from Cabo and stayed at Finisterra and I couldn't have asked for anything better. I went with my wife and two friends and we really enjoyed our stay. We especially liked that it was within walking distance from the heart of the town. Room service was excellent, the room was good, and the pools were even better! Although you cannot swim in the ocean, you can do some fishing from shore. The private beach is lined with hammocks and palapitas for your relaxation. My wife and I cannot wait to go back! It is also ideal for families.

The hotel is very clean. The staff is friendly. There are no hotel-sponsored pool activities like at the other hotels, so people don't really hang out at the pool--they go to the beach.

The grounds were beautiful. The staff was the best I have ever encountered. The view was awesome. That check out was not at 3 or 4 PM. I went as the adult cheaper one on a "grad trip". The hotel grounds facilitated my keeping up with all the members of our party. The daily pool activities were great for everyone. The atmosphere was user friendly for all ages and tastes. The restaurant and bar service was outstanding. I recommend the room service - even if you want chocolate cake at two in the morning. Have fun, get a great tan, eat, drink and be merry.

Nice hotel. Service was good besides the annoying concierge who consistantly bothered us to join the Time Share tour. Location is right on the beach. It's a non swimming side of the ocean but plenty of views of whales and dolphins. After one or two walks on the pier we stayed on the road into town. Less people bothering us to join their activities. Hotel has 3 pools and 4 hot tubs. Only one of the pools is heated but still very nice. The pool chairs could be updated but still worked ok. Get a room not on the first floor away from the noise. Only real complaint was the mattress was like sleeping on cement.

My husband and I chose this hotel not only based on the price but for the location. We wanted to have an ocean view but also be close to the shopping. This hotel is located a short walking distance to the Marina which is where all the great shopping and dining are located. You can also walk downtown which is right off the marina. The rooms were nice, tile floors which I prefer as they seem to be cleaner, nice bathroom and private vanity area with all the essentials. The rooms also have a complimentary safe where you can put all your valuables. The three pools were very nice and clean. The main pool which also has the swim-up bar was definitely the most popular and we realized later not only for the drinks but the other two pools were absolutely freezing! Not sure why.. but if you wanted a more quiet setting to read a book or just lay and enjoy the sun, then you should head over to one of those pools. We had read reviews prior to our trip about the construction going on next door. It wasn't that bad but you could hear it more from the first pool; so keep that in mind. If you don't want to hear any construction, then this might not be for you, although we did notice that several of the hotels had construction going on while there. We would definitely stay here again as overall for the price, it was very very nice. The two downfalls.. the massage .. not the greatest and tupon checkout they were haggling over a 3 bottle of water that they say we used in our room which we didn't.. they finally deducted it from our bill. Overall good place to stay!

The hotel was under renovations while we were there but they still tried to accomodate us by keeping the pool restaurant open late since the other restaurants were not open. The view of the Pacific was great and the pools were the best part of the hotel. Also the location is perfect if you want to dine out or go to bars as it is right off the Marina where there is a lot to do.

We were greeted by the warm and welcoming staff and to me and my boyfriends suprise, we were given a complimentary bottle of wine at the hotel restaurant. The staff was always willing to help, very friendly! The rooms were nice, especially the view. Don't mind the bedding because it's worth it to have a view of the ocean. The view is much better than other hotels who have a bay view because you are actually staring out at a beautiful ocean with ocassional boats, instead of staring out a busy bay that is full of jet skiers, water taxis, and CRUISE SHIPS! Not once was anything ever missing from our room, which is ALWAYS a good thing! Also, the hotels breakfast was memorabily delicious! And for you females who worry about this like I do, I NEVER saw ANY bugs in our room! :) The beach isn't recommended for swimming, but that was a nice touch because there were no vendors and rarely any beach goers. My boyfriend and I were even able to spot some whales from the hammocks. The hotel is located on a hill, but it really isn't that bad. If you can't handle it or don't feel up to it, the hotel does offer a shuttle down it. Don't be scared by the reviews though, it's not a huge deal. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. This is the place. It's a less than 5 minute walk from the marina, CaboDolphins, and the flea market. Walking around the marina you can find plenty of restaurants to eat at and the mall is about a 15 minute walk. If you aren't up for it there are bicyle taxis or vans located near the entrance. My boyfriend and I are very particular about things and we absolutely loved this hotel.

If you stay here, please stay in the lower section, the Beach club. Wireless internet is not available in the rooms. You have to go to the business center or the pool area. Taxi ride to the Cabo Wabo is about 6.00 and beats the walk. Hotel has an ATM and they will change money at the front desk. I played the Cabo Real golf course. 30 taxi ride, 180.00 greens fees, but its a great course. Play Cabo Del Sol also. Wave runners are 80.00 for an hour over on the beach area. Take more money than you expect. June and July are hot. Have fun like I did. Rich

This place was great. Staff was friendly and helpful. We got a great package deal. Flight + 7 days for $600 each!!! probably due in part to the swine flu scare (totally bogus by the way) and traveling a little off season (last week of May) which left us the whole place practically to ourselves. The weather was great (low 90's the whole time). Five minute walk to bars and restaurants( though the hotel has a great swim up bar and restaurant outside next to the pool). Right on the beach (only down side is you're not supposed to swim in the ocean. I tried but wouldn't recommend it. steep incline and strong undertow) Overall I had a great time and would recommend this place to anyone.

We have been fishing in Cabo for more than 15 years. We always stay at the Hotel Finisterra and have nevered had a bad experience. The entire staff is friendly and fun to be around. It's close to town and has a beautiful beach (can't swim there and you must always be careful with the wave action when walking on the beach). The Whale Watcher's Bar has the best view of the ocean in Cabo. We would recommend asking for the newer section if you want the best view and updated rooms. (Palapa Beach front rooms). In Mexico the hourly wage is far beneath anyone means to make a living. Tiping the help is a big plus on your vacation. We'll be back soon! Sit back and enjoy your stay at the Finisterra with no worrys! P.S the help is so honest here, they returned 45.00 cash left in my husbands shorts when they did our laundry one time!

I really wanted to be able to strongly recommend this hotel. Afterall, you can't beat the location and value. For me though, the service was a big detractor. I received a hundred dollar food voucher which they would not fully honor when it came time to check out. I found this to be really deceptive and the primary reason for my 'do not recommend' rating. The other negative issues--Beware there is construction next door and they work from 8-6 at least 6 days a week. Laying by the pool is not very relaxing with all the noise. Because of this, it is worth it to upgrade to a palapa beach club room which is on the opposite side of the hotel away from the construction. You can still hear some noise, but it is bearable. Also, the walls of the rooms are paper thin and you can hear every noise in the adjacent rooms.I found the staff to be somewhat creepy. They actually seemed mad at us for going to the playa grande timeshare tour next door. I understand they don't want competition, but we were turned off when one a staff member saw us in the hallway and made a comment that we went to a competitor tour and asked what they gave us.The rooms need a little updating but are clean. The location is walking distance to the marina. The hotel has a pacific ocean beach which is nice to walk along, but is non-swimming. Safety was emphasized and you actually can't bring any guests to the hotel after 9pm.All in all, with the service issues and construction, we wouldn't recommend staying there now, unless the value is right for you and you plan mainly off hotel property activities.

This hotel is in a great location, close to dining and shopping. The hill to hotel can be walked easily. We got a great price and it was all very well worth it. Dining in the hotel was limited but worked for what we needed. Parts were under remodel and not all amenities were open.We ate at Olé Olé and that was some of the best lobster and steak, very friendly staff there. Well worth the price and great location.
