My first impression was not favorable, this hotel is not impeccable as I would expect. Dirty carpets, damaged hallway walls, lightbulbs out, damaged wood work etc. In my room the furniture was dusty, drink rings on the bedstand, bird droppings all over patio & patio furniture, the robes provided were torn with holes in them. There was mold around the sinks & shower. However, the hotel staff was very friendly & when I brought up my concerns they buffed me out with a substantial room upgrade which made it tolerable. I only ate at the hotel twice & both times the service was horible & the food worse. It is unfortunate, because with better attention to the small details this could be a fabulous place. It is in a great location with killer views.

I thought I was going on a 13 hour flight for a business trip. Was I surprised! My wife and I had the most wonderful experience on the property and the entire island. After we landed and rented a car I told my wife see all you can because we won't be back again. Then we got to the Fairmont Orchid and my mind set changed from the second I pulled up to check in. I had found paradise. Staff was friendly, helpful, courteous, accommodating, and always smiling. The room was wonderful and the weather was perfect. Yes we paid well for some quality food but we also went to the deli on the property and eat at the deli. A grocery store is just down the street and week got wine, cheese, and fru frus for snacking also. At the end of the stay I was not wanting to leave even thinking of chunking it all on the mainland and staying, (maybe getting a job as a bellman or something there) instead of corporate America). Would I go back, YES, will I go back YES. A week just wasn't enough time at a great property, on a great island in paradise.

Best thing about the hotel was the beach and protected cove for snorkeling. Buy fruit, etc. at the nearby grocery to skip the pricey breakfast and dine on your lanai instead. Parking and internet are way over-priced but that's typical. Oh yeah, and I was expecting a lot of orchids everywhere, given the name of the hotel. Not so much. Weird.

We stayed at the Fairmont Orchid during our honeymoon and cut our stay short. The first night our peaceful honeymoon was disrupted by a noisy corporate convention blaring rock music all evening. The next morning at 8am we were woken up by a PA system annoucing the activities for the corporate group. After the PA system ended 30 minutes later, we spent the rest of the morning listening to corporate cheers. In the evening we got to hear really bad Hawain music blaring out of the restaurant for three hours as we sat on our balcony sitting wine. The second morning was spent listening to a tractor mower cut the grass right underneath our room at 8:30am. The only people who should book at this hotel are those who are hearing impaired. At the very least the hotel should have noise suppressors on its power machinery. The food, while good, was wildly overpriced even for a 4-star resort. 2 coffees and muffins cost *. The hotel bar had flies galore and did not set up citronella candles, although the staff claimed the candles helped. We checked out early and went to the Four Seasons. This is a good value hotel for a family, but should not be booked if you want privacy and quiet.

We wanted a high end Island resort experience and taht is what we got. Great resytaurants & staff. Due to economy and off season -- we had the resort to ourselves -- very low ocupancy the first five days -- expolre the island from our base at the hotel -- yet had several on th beach or by the pool days to relax. We had several high quality spa experiences.

The Gold Level concierge team provided service second to none during our stay. Moreover, the rooms, facilities and service by the hotel staff was outstanding

Be sure to hike to the petroglyphs early in the morning, they were amazing. Snorkeling at the hotel was awesome, we saw many turtles.

We've stayed at several places on the Kohala Coast and enjoyed the Orchid the most. The beach is great, especially for smaller children. The ""Beach Boys"" are awesome, so friendly and helpful. Be sure to take advantage of all that the hotel offers, outrigger boat rides, swimming with the sea turtles, surf lessons, keiki care (for date night). If your budget allows I highly reccommend the couples massage overlooking the ocean. The grounds are beautiful, food is great, rooms are very nice. You'll never have to leave the hotel if you don't want to. We can't wait to go back!!

Staff was great but we got placed in a room between too very noisy parties - one adults only that smoked heavily on the lanai and one with children that insisted on crawling over the balcony side of the lanai. we always like to sit out at our destinations. otherwise the hotel is fab - we always enjoy it

Wow! The reviews don't do this place justice. Pay the extra for the 'Gold' floor - it pays for itself in free breakfasts, drinks and service!
