we selected the hotel to rest and relax. we enjoyed laying by the pool, getting sun and doing nothing. the staff was excellent. the highlight of our day was waiting for [...] to bring us our mojito's by the pool. we have stayed at many all-inclusive resorts. this is by far the best.

This hotel was GREAT! I have personally never stayed anywhere as nice. Everything was taken care of by the staff. When we arrived we were greeted by name with a glass of champagne and a cold towel to cool us off. We were immediately taken to the excellence club room to check in. We had the roof top terrace suite. It was beautiful! Very romantic! We were there for our anniversary and they even set up the room with a little suprise to welcome you if you let them know it's your anniversary/honeymoon. The food, staff, grounds are all excellent. We enjoyed all the different "all inclusives" available. From water sports to the nightly shows. Some of the nightly shows are a little lame but they really did try their best to make them fun and exciting. The food was GREAT. I have seen others complain about the food but I never had any problems with it. Anything that we asked for they were very accommodating to get it for us. We even took a cab from the hotel into town to shop and do some sight seeing. We expected to just be dropped off at market 28 (good place to get souvenirs btw) but instead our cab driver stayed with us the entire day. At each stop we made he would point out where he would be waiting for us when we returned. We left the hotel around 8:30 a.m. & didn't return until 3:00 p.m. The driver only charged us $65 U.S. (try that in the states) we were pleasantly suprised. Overall we were very impressed with the hotel & their staff. We are already planning our next trip and plan to stay even longer the next time.

A great relaxing time. The pools were great and the beach was wonderful. Great staff that fixes a mean frozen drink! My wife cried on the day we left. We rate it the best vacation we ever had.

Very nice Get-a-Way for couples. Very Private and Very Relaxing. Grounds are Wonderful. Food was a bit disappointing. Breakfast and Lunch buffet were fine. Although dinner waitstaff was nice, the food was untasteful at 3 out of the 4 restuarants we ate. The Mexican restaurant was the only dinner we felt satisfactory. We did not have so much of an issue with the salads, appetizers or desserts, but the main courses were simply not very tasteful. If we had stayed longer than 4 days we would have left the resort for different dining options, even if we had to take and pay for the long cab ride and back to Cancun. For the rating of this hotel, it is hard to believe the dinner food is not held to a higher standard. The service and relaxation you experience at this resort far outweighed our disdain for the food. Wonderful place to hid out for a couple of days. I simply would not recommend an extended stay or a high expectation for food.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We'd never been to Mexico, so weren't sure what to expect. However, from the moment we arrived, we were taken very good care of by a fantastic staff. We weren't sure about tipping protocol, so we kind of were hit and miss on it. It didn't bother us that some of the waiters were not proficient in English--they were understandable. They were extremely helpful and were always smiling (and had good senses of humor!). The food was great, for the most part, but a little sketchy sometimes; at some points it was very good (Barcelona breakfast buffets, Lobster House dinner menu, scallops and steaks at Chez Isabella), but then some of the lunch items were not so tasty (chicken dishes at the Grill, salmon at the Lobster House). The drinks were fantastic. The room was immaculate whenever the maids went through, but they didn't clean the room on our last full day there, and didn't do turndown for a few random nights. And the toilet situation (with the frosted glass door that wasn't frosted far enough to the edges) left something to be desired. The shower window was just funny, but the toilet needed some coverage! The pools were awesome, but the beach was not as nice as I had hoped it would be. Lots of random seaweed was floating around and washing up on shore...then someone would drive by on a tractor with some sort of seaweed-collecting implement attached to it. I would say that the good points of this resort outweigh the negatives. The most negative thing was the drive up there: scary and through some rough parts of Cancun. The best part: floating on the lazy river in the sunshine with a cold drink--relaxing.

This was an anniversary trip for my wife and I. We could not have been more satisfied. The staff and service were excellent. The facilities were outstanding. The room was spacious, clean, and nice. The food was good. Room service was great, the room service box is a brilliant idea. This was the best 5 star all inclusive resort we've been to. My only 2 complaints were the shows weren't very good and the the refrigerator in the room only keeps beverages slightly below room temperature. Overall, it would be tough to beat this resort. Do yourself a favor and take your spouse; you will not be disappointed.

We really enjoyed this trip, the hotel rooms are very comfortable, the staff are very friendly and helpful. I would go back to Cancun today if I could. However here's why I wouldn't go back to this hotel; The restaurant food is not quite there, I realize it's an all inclusive and there is good variety but for example my wife ordered the Filet at the Grill and I ordered a T Bone, mine was cut thin and tough, hers was not Filet, by the look of the cut it was Mock Tender. This sort of thing applied to all the restaurants, the high spot for me was the breakfast buffet which was much better than I've had in any US hotel including Ritz Carltons. The room service was very good we had dinner in the room one night and coffee every morning it was always very quick and the quality was good. All in all not bad just a little chintzy. The room was billed as Excellence Club Ocean Front and yes we could see the ocean but we were at about 45 degrees to the shoreline and a good way back at least 100 yards and there was another building between us and the sea so to me that's ocean view not ocean front. The hotel was nowhere near capacity so I don't know why we got this room but definitely not worth the extra $ a night. The best things we did were to take the ferry to Isla Mujeres which is a fun place and the trip we took to Chichen Itza. We had a private driver and tour guide who was really great and we got to swim in the Cenote at Ik Kil and take a walk around a little Mayan town.

Great staff, food was pretty good for an all inclusive. Rooms were just as they looked. Great place to get away and just be by the sea or by the pool.

Customer service is not up to par for the hotel rating. Some staff is trained well; others do not speak a word of English and can't accommodate simple requests. For $** a night, this hotel would be a perfect choice. If you a looking for a place to spend a lot of money for drinking and eating and laying by the pool (beach areas aren't very good), this place for you. However there are plenty of other places in Cancun where you can get same service and same amenities (if not more) for significantly less money. Pluses: Restaurant selection was very good and food was excellent but not worth extra $** per night. Pools and grounds are nice and well kept. Minuses: The hotel is far away from the main strip and in order to get anywhere from the hotel one needs a car. Room service was terrible; twice staff entered the room when a "do not enter" sign was displayed. Most staff speak very poor English, which is not acceptable for a 5-star hotel.

Beautiful rooms and buildings, delicious restaurants, huge, beautiful pools, nice beach, outstanding service. Room service, meals, everything is included! We've stayed at Sandals and Riu before for all-inclusive trips, but the Excellence goes above and beyond them in all areas. What a great resort!

This all inclusive is as close to perfection as you'll find anywhere. We had a swim out jr suite room and we absolutely loved it. It was very spacious with beautiful amenities, fantastic shower and private jacuzzi, and just a step out the patio door to our own chaises by the pool. No hassles trying to find beach chairs or towels, this is the best part. The mini bar is kept stocked, and the 24 room service is great. Our hosts couldn't have been more gracious. When they found our reservation had been confused with my son's and his wife, we were upgraded to the Excellence Club without even asking. The food was great. The buffet at Barcelona for breakfast is wonderful. We had the couples massage and felt like we had gone to heaven. It included an hour of hydro therapy complete with steam room and sauna. The grounds of this resort are a private paradise with beautiful flowers and manicured lawns. There's so much more I could say but suffice to say, I can't wait to go back again! We loved this vacation!

This was absolutely one of the best hotels, I've stayed at in Mexico. The restaurants were outstanding and you did not need reservations. The spa was absolutely wonderful!! Water activities were awesome and reasonably priced. Service was great. A wonderful experience.

From the time we arrived to the time we left, we had a fantastic time! Food and service was out of this world. We have been to other all inclusive resorts, but this one by far was the best. The music was great and they had quite a selection of cigars. If you are looking for an excellent vacation, I would definitely go here! Not a whole lot of people either.....so if you are looking for a intimate time, this is the place. We received a couples massage....I highly recommend. The only draw back is the ride to get there is a little long, but it wasn't too bad. Planning to have our wedding there. Will update when we do!

My wife and I went for our 10th anniversary and found this resort to be truly wonderful, and even better than described, the rooms were very luxurious, not to mention sexy...The shower is built for two and it has a window to the rest of the room! The food was great, and the drinks contained high quality spirits not typical of an all inclusive. What struck me most was the ratio of staff to guests seemed extremely high, it appeared to be 1:2. While the place looked like it had 5000 rooms, it seemed empty at some times. You never had to make a reservation at any of the restaurants, nor did we have to wait to be seated, we just showed up when we wanted. The dress code seemed bit much at first, but it did really dress the place up. Come 7pm everyone looked like a million bucks!!

Stayed in a junior swim up suite which was perfect. It is ground level, 30 feet from water. Did the Romance on the Beach dinner, $$$ extra, and it was worth it. The spa facilities are top notch. The nearby Greg Norman golf course was outstanding with frequent on course service. The dining options are excellent but the food was good, not great. Not too many all inclusives offer lobster as one of your dining options like this place. The staff needs to pick up the towels from lounge chairs more often so you can tell which chairs are open.

Excellence is the way to go. We stayed at ERC last year and could not wait to try EPM. It did not disappoint. Service was great, room was awesome(7223) with ocean view. I don't really see any reason to upgrade to Excellence Club at this location. We loved sitting on the wonderful beach everyday!!

The room was probably the nicest we've ever stayed in in Mexico. We really enjoyed the numerous pools, especially the one with the lazy river concept. The staff was extremely courteous, and most of the food was delicious. The only complaint we have is that the website advertised the resort as including gratuities. Two days into the trip we realized that tips were not only accepted but also expected, so we felt horrible that we had not tipped anybody in two days and tried to make up for it the rest of the time. We have stayed at many other all-inclusives that advertised that gratuities were included and strictly enforced the policy. The biggest luxury of an all-inclusive is not having to carry cash around all day. If tips are expected, then the resort should not be advertised as including gratuities so guests do not have to guess at the protocol and feel ridiculous.
