On our first day the electronic door lock failed. It took hours to fix and we could not change for dinner because of the dress code. The front desk was barely apologetic and we had to go up the management chain to even get a proper apology. We were moved to another room and the toilet would not flush properly we had to flush 8-12 times per use. We let our concerns be known and after two days of complaints the manger Nicolas told us to WIPE AND PUT THE USED TOILET PAPER INTO THE WASTE BASKET AND NOT FLUSH IT DOWN THE TOILET. We spent our honeymoon either flushing the toilet multiple times or using the toilet in the lobby. I am not the paranoid type but I am sure that they entered our names in a computer because every time we complained whether it was new person or someone who we saw before they would "check things out" but be really dismissive. I would never go back to the Excellence. It is not worth $200 per night per person to to try and flush my feces down a toilet

Great secluded area for couples to relax and getaway from the every day things.

our first mistake was staying at the playa majerus excellence last year. this was a huge step down. we spent a week looking at water that was too dangerous to swim in. we were locked in our room one night, the maintenance man (after 2 calls) climbed over the next door balcony to enter our room. while he was there we had him fix the safe that wouldn't open. i can't tell you how many times my husband had to take the lid off the tank and fiddle around to get the toilet to stop flushing, everyday they were going to "fix it". by the 3rd day we were tired of trying to communicate with the staff who don't understand english. (not their fault, it's their country, not ours). food was ok, better than cooking at home i guess. the ride to and from the airport was the least of our problems, especially the ride TO the airport, i was so happy to be going home.

This was the best all inclusive I have stayed at.

This was my first time staying in an all-inclusive and our first time in the Dominican Republic. I will say that I was nervous during our 1.5 hour drive from the airport to the hotel, but once we pulled up my nerves disappeared. We were greeted with a glass of champagne and a hot towel. The people were incredibly friendly, the hotel was spotless, the pool/beach was gorgeous, the food and drink was excellent! We visited the spa several times during our stay and the treatments were some of the best I have ever had. I would not recommend leaving the resort, but really there is no need too...this resort had everything and anything you could ever want.

our vacation was ok, but not great. Our issue is we have stayed at very lovely locations in the caribbean and this place was very average. The food was not very good. The service was adequate, but was not helpful if there was a problem or concern. They were somewhat dismissive. Don't venture off the resort property. The beach becomes very litered and we were told somewhat unsafe.

We selected the Excellence hotel because it was very highly rated on this web site and another travel site...not to mention our travel agent recommended it. We spent 6 nights there in February of 2009. I am going to be brief and detail what was good and bad about it without being too wordy: Pros: The hotel was very nice The pools were nice No kids (if you are looking for this) Choice of 8 different restaurants Unlimited filtered water provided Cons: The ride from the airport to the resort is an hour and a half of misery The beach was too rough and unswimmable The majority of the people that worked there could not understand basic english. It was very difficult to change your order in the restaurant. Restaurants would tell you there was an hour wait, meanwhile, no one was waiting and there was many, many open tables. This is all inclusive but the liquor choices were horrible. Absolut was their top shelf. If you hunt, you could find Grey Goose at the Excellence club. We asked for an ocean view property on an upper floor. They booked us in a first floor room, then tried to get us to agree to pay the same price for a cheaper room!! Our TV was broken and we had to ask them to fix it around 4 or 5 times. Pool water was very cold Overall, I was not very happy about my stay. I would not recommend this place, but not seeing any of the other places in Punta Cana, this could very well be the best place there. I've been to much better resorts so I'd have to say if you like mediocre food and alcohol and don't mind that long ride...go for it.

First ever all inclusive experience and we enjoyed it. The choice of entertainment as well as dining experiences was unending. Friendly staff gave us a unique personal experience from the moment we left our room until we closed the club late every morning. We also meet some very nice couples and enjoyed the evening shows.

I rang in the New Year at Excellence Punta Cana. Since New York was FREEZING at the time, I was just happy to be in the sun. My husband and I had a great time overall. However, I was a little surprised to see this hotel rating itself as a 5-star facility (more like a low 4). All of the basics were covered, but some of the details that I would expect from a 5-sar place were missing. The bed, although comfortable creaked loudly and I couldn?t tell whether or not the headboard was attached properly. The staff were friendly and helpful overall, but in keeping up with the island mentality, their sense of urgency was lacking (We had to ask two different people for hand towels and our one small room service order took close to an hour to arrive). Actually, as mentioned by another reviewer, the food was the worst part. The presentation was excellent (clean buffet areas, nicely decorated theme restaurants), but the dinner food quality was awful One night I didn?t even finish my meal (at the ?Mexican? restaurant on-site). Lunch (indoor buffet or beach BBQ) was usually the best bet. Considering all of this, the Excellence was a great setting for relaxation. The grounds were beautiful, the weather was pleasant and there were many options for activities (and spa treatments) if you wanted them. One note- coordinate travel to and from the hotel beforehand if you can. The hotel is over an hour away from the airport, so you'll want to skip the "can I help you, sir?" bidding wars between different transportation companies.

Everything about the Excellence is excellente, except for the food. However, as long as you know this going in and don't expect to much from it, the resort is well worth the money.

All in all it was a nice vacation...........lots to Drink .... the restaurant &entertainment were good . The staff were really friendly and went out of there way to please you . However the thing that kind of spoiled my vacation was I was down sized from the suite that I booked to a room. This totally spoiled my vacation and to top it off the front desk acted like they were doing me a favor when two days later they offered me a suite. I tried to stress that I paid for the room and did not got it free or it was not complimentary. This is a set back when you are on your way all your thinking that you are going to the beautiful Suite you book and end up in a room. I ended up not changing because it did not worth it in the end( we did not want to go thry the hassle of changing). They did not even tried to make it up..... but all and all despite this it was a good and relaxing vacation The hotel have to do better with the reservation.... .. PS I was not the only hotel guest that had this problem we ran into 2 other couples who had problems. Even when I mentioned that I was a secret shopper and was researching this hotel for a very big and reputabale company and I would write about there reservation defectiveness I was told by the front desk manager to do what you have to do we do not care.... Does he realized what the secre shopper clubs I do not beleive so. I know my review would not be posted. NICE HOTEL, COURTEOUS STAFF EXPECIALLY THE ENT. STAFF NICE GROUP OF PEOPLE.

The hotel was very luxurious and very beautiful. Most of the resort (except for the rooms and a few of the restaurants) are open air. The main pool was HUGE and amazing. It has a swim up bar, and is just the right depth to stand in. It also has shallow sections you can lay in too. The staff was so helpful and was always ready to bring you whatever food or drinks you wanted. There are lots of shady cabanas all around the pool so that you can relax in the shade too. The beach was very clean and beautiful and the sand was pristine. The food selection was very good, and the quality of the food was okay. We got sick (not sure if it was the food or swallowed ocean water) and the medic was able to take care of us, and the concierge checked up on us and made sure we had everything we needed. The main drawback was being an hour from the airport. If you take a taxi like we did it is $70 USD one way. Overall I recommend this resort, especially if you like not having crying whiny children around =)

Overall it was a good vacation, but the front desk failed to deliver a note to fellow vacationers. this caused us lost time with the other couple, and that irked me. Also, our air conditioning sounded like it was on its last leg, and apparently it was, since it died the last night we were there. Our room was not ready when we arrived, and we needed to wait over 30 minutes to get into the room to change clothes. I took the advice of another reviewer and brought dollar bills for tipping, and the Dominican workers at the hotel were extremely grateful. If anyone goes on an excursion to see Dominican life, I recommend that you bring candy to pass out to the children that you see along the way. They are very precious, and deserving of the attention. Other than the above issues, the resort was very clean, and the area is very beautiful. I recommend that if you go to the Dominican Republic, you stay Excellence. The people on our tour all said that Excellence is the best on the island. Of course, it is an adults only resort.

I will say all of the staff was friendly and attentive to out needs. We did have some trouble getting a running toilet repaired, but was offered a room exchange. It was a hassel, but I really didn't want to re-pack to change rooms, so we just dealt w/ it. I think as Americans our standards are not the worl's standards. I did enjoy myself and look fwd to a return trip.

I arrived with my new wife on our honeymoon to Excellence and was greeted immediately with champagne and friendly staff. Our first impression was the main lobby which was amazing to look at and was much larger then I expected. We were then escorted to our walk out pool room which was great. The king size bed was comfortable and the in-room jacuzzi was a nice touch. Out back, we had our own porch, hammock and were within walking distance to the pool. Along with the pool being there, we were lucky enough to be right next to the pool bar which we swam up to to get any drinks we wanted. Overall, the resort was in tip top shape. There were a few minor things that needed touch up but to be honest, that would be me just nitpicking an amazing place. Onto the food. The resort has about 7 or 8 five star restaurants and they definitely live up to the five stars. Each restaurant has its own unique flavor such as Italian, French Style, Japanese, Mexican, Mediterranean, Steak House, Lobster House and a couple others. Along with the restaurants, almost every night there was an outdoor buffet of cuisines which included a night with traditional Dominican food which was amazing. The lunch and breakfast buffets were also top notch with sooo many things to chose from you could never get bored. Along with the food, there were constant activities all day long and each day, a daily schedule was left in the room with the next days activities. Also shows at night kept you entertained with dances, music, circus acts and more. The staff too was top notch. Just about everyone was friendly 24-7 which was great. I know personally its not easy to be "on" every second and every day dealing with guests but they did a great job of giving out a positive vibe. All in all, I could go on for another 20 minutes of typing but I can sum it up with this. If you are looking for a five star resort, I can't imagine anything being better then this place. It truly was Excellente!!!

Had a wonderful time. Celebrating our 20th anniversary and was looking for a quiet, relaxing place with great service. The Excellence Punta Cana was a perfect choice. Beautiful beach and one of the largest pool areas I've ever seen. Never had an issue finding the "perfect" spot. It was the perfect destination for our vacation.

The hotel was absoloutely beautiful and everything went very smoothly from check in to check out. We loved the room, the staff and the amenities. The beach is like paradise with the hammocks, swings and beds right on the sand. Unfortunately, the food was teriible and both my boyfirend and were sick to our stomachs the entire time. We managed to enjoy our trip but stuck to breads and fruit for the second half of the trip.

I think that for the price we paid for this vacation we definitely got our monies worth. The staff at the hotel were wonderful, the pool and beach were great. Not a lot of inclusive amenities but we weren't looking to do too much. Just relaxed, ate and drank.
