I would definitely stay in this hotel again. The staff is EXTREMELY friendly and they make you feel right at home. On my last day they let me check out at 12:30 without charging me extra. They always went out of their way to accommodate you. The rooms where extremely clean, I can't complain about the rooms, definitely had the South Beach atmosphere you're looking for. They have a small pool and after catching sun in the beach the pool definitely was the hot spot to unwind for the rest of the afternoon. Essex is right on 10th and Collins and its where the party is at. So be ready to stay up all night. The environment is mixed from family oriented to singles trying to have a great time. I love it here and would definitely go back.

Excellent, friendly and helpful staff. Every concern was addressed immediately. The room itself was rather small, but very tidy. Great location, close to the beach, bars and clubs. The only one negative thing is lack of parking places nearby hotel. Most of the streets are reserved for other hotels, so it's hard to find a good place to park your car in the evening. However, I do believe it's rather matter of place itself (crowded Miami beach) rather than hotel's fault.

Staff was professional and helpful. Hotel is a unique Miami style, more quaint than modern and provides services from the sister hotel the Clevelander which is practically connected. Easy walk to beach. Did not have a car so I do not know where you would park one....busy part of South Beach.

Location, price, style and service, that's as. The parking situation is abysmal, but that is south beach for you. I can't say enough about how pleased I was with my stay at the as hotel. For the price the hotel can not be beat. The location is incredible and the beds are comfortable. I loved the outside porch/patio. It's a great place to sit out and enjoy a warm night with a cool drink in hand. The staff was incredibly accommodating; allowing my travel party a very early check in time after a long voyage. My only real complaint is the lack of parking. Paying for parking on new year's cost me almost as much as the hotel itself.

Great location in the artdeco district of Miami Beach. Good value for the price considering the location.

We brought my parents to South Beach for their 60th wedding anniversary. The Hotel staff, Stephanie and Ralph, found out it was their anniversary and sent a welcome basket to their room. They were very attentive and helpful. Also, it was nice that the hotel has a reciprocal agreement with the Clevender, which has a great outdoor restaurant and music. Mom and Dad had a very memorable anniversary.

Friendly staff and location. Smelly room. Excellent location and friendly staff, great spot to explore south beach, rooms basic and so would not recommend if you want hotel for more than base and a bed, for latter it is perfect for price.

The Art-Deco look of this hotel is gorgeous, the staff are so pleasant, the rooms very comfortable...what more could we ask for? We had a large, lovely porch to sit out on all day into the evening if we liked, we could bring our drinks out there or have them delivered to us. The breeze was so nice...a truly enjoyable stay w/an truly enjoyable & competant group of people. We'll probably do it again. We felt so comfortable, & boy was that complimentary lemonade in the afternoons a pleasant surprise after walking around for hours!

Originally I had focused on finding a room with an Ocean view for a 2 night mid week trip to South Beach in late April 2009 with my girlfriend, but after reading some of the reviews for hotels on Ocean Drive I determined that it would probably be too noisy for my liking to stay at any hotel on Ocean Drive due to their proximity to Ocean Drive traffic, clubs, etc. My priorities for a hotel were cleanliness, location, lack of noise at night and value. With that being said, I narrowed down my choice to The Essex House for the following reasons:1) Excellent reviews for value, customer service, lack of noise, cleanliness, etc.2) Close to the beach (1 short block), but far enough away from the noise of Ocean Drive.3) Cool veranda, courtyard and little pool. From the time we checked in we realized we had picked the right hotel. Although we arrived at The Essex House around Noon which was well before the 3 PM or 4 PM check in time, they had a room available for us and allowed us to check in when I assumed we would only be able to store our bags until check in. Our interaction with all the staff at The Essex House was equally positive from that moment on. BTW, Chris at the front desk also later granted us a late check out as well. We found everyone at The Essex House to be friendly, very pleasant, customer service orientated and genuinely interested in being helpful. [...] at the front desk greeted me by name each day when I requested his assistance for things like beach towels, ice or resetting our door key. [...]the manager, inquired about our stay and solicited our feedback. [...] addressed me and my girlfriend by our first names when storing our luggage, obtaining a taxi for our departure, etc. [...] spent sometime giving us the locals insight on how SoBe changes during the holiday weekends, etc. After our 2 night stay at The Essex House we can say our expectations were exceeded. Our standard room was clean, quiet at night for sleeping, in a great location, comfortable, w

I was given two free drink tickets which I thought was inviting. I enjoyed the breakfast bar each morning. The staff was very fast at troubleshooting. N/a. This was a great hotel in the heart of south beach.

Overall, the hotel's accommodations were okay. The customer service was outstanding! The front desk attendant booked our tours and suggested a great restaurant named Soprano's. The food was impeccable. The housekeeping was another story. We had a suite, which was very roomy, but the room was not clean. Yes, the sheets were changed but the Jacuzzi had a dirt ring around it, there was no soap or wash towels, and the wet bar was sticky. I had to sneak some spray cleaner from the housekeeping cart. After the first day, the room was cleaned pretty well. Maybe the housekeeper was off the day we checked in. Oh, one more thing. The photos make this hotel appear very glamorous and well kept. Don't let the photos fool you. It?s not a hole in the wall, but certainly not what it appears to be on their Internet site. In fact, the foyer tables had a sheet of dust on them and floors could use a good dust mopping. We were a block away from Ocean Dr., so everything was in walking distance. I have to say, the area can be a little dicey at night. I enjoyed the nightlife. After a certain time, you can get drinks and dinner at up to 50% off. People around seemed to be enjoying themselves and were very pleasant. Overall, I enjoyed my trip. I think the best part was the bay tours and market place shopping.

Great service and great location. Great value too. Would definitely stay here again. Clevelander is part of this now too. Clevelander reopened this weekend so we experienced the opening. Good times

Big windows in corner rooms, helpful bellmen, nice porch or pool area. Construction across street, Clevelander Hotel behind it is loud on weekends. We've stayed at several different South Beach hotels during Winter Music Conference in March, and this one was the best so far. We enjoyed the central location, the amenities offered, the staff and the atmosphere. We would stay again.

My husband and I enjoyed a memorable Halloween night in South Beach. We stayed at the Essex House on Collins. The location was perfect as we were able to walk to many places of interest. The hotel is conveniently located on the corner of 10th and Collins with many cafes, clubs, shops and museums within walking distance. It is also very quiet considering the many parties going on in the vicinity. For those who don't enjoy leisurely strolls as much as we, cabs were quite plentiful and reasonably priced. The room itself was quite comfortable and very roomy. The furnishings were modern and the bathroom very clean. Best of all, the room even boasted a walkin closet. I should mention the veranda outside where one can enjoy a glass of wine while watching the passersby on the street. The staff was friendly and very helpful. When we checked in, the computerized system that coded the room keys crashed. Each time we left and needed to enter our room, we had to have staff let us in. The computer was still unable to generate room keys by the time we check out. This would have been a negative comment, but the staff was wonderful. A special thanks to Ralph who came to our rescue and promtly let us in our room, arranged cabs, and attended to our requests. All in all, we will definately stay here again. The intimate feel of this hotel was a pleasant change from the larger chains.

Size of the room. Hallway is dirty. Nobody (staff) at the bar. We had one room with 3 people. The room was pretty big and comfortable. (one king bed, one sofa bed, two small couch and two bar tool with table). It is not super clean and new hotel but It is good price and good size room for 2-4 people. I wish they had a good bar.
