Lovely little hotel. Very recently(last year?)renovated top to bottom.I know, I stayed here in 2002 when it was the Polo Inn.So, ignore reviews before 2007/2008 as the hotel is not the same name or hotel. Very nice comfortable beds with lots of pillows. Free breakfast was nice as well. I have always liked this location in Waikiki: close to beaches,Ala moana Park, Ala Moana Center, Ward entertainment district and across from the Yacht harbor. An easy walk to the busy center of Waikiki, but out side that traffic mess. Five stars for the Equus for location , price and value!

I LIKE THE LOCATION OF THE EQUUS ON TH WEST(EWA) SIDE OF WAIKIKI.EASIER TO GET TO, CLOSER TO REST O HONOLULU AND OUTSIDE THE CENTRAL WAIKIKI CRAZY TRAFFIC ZONE.NEWLY RENOVATED( I ASKED WHEN AND FRONT DESK SAID RENOVATIONS COMPLETED AT END OF 2008).NICE DESIGN TOUCHES AND AN OLD KAMAAINA FEEL TO THE PLACE.ROOMS VERY COMFORTABLE WITH ALL THE MODERN AMENITIES AND THE MOST COMFORTABLE BEDS WITH TONS OF EXTRA PILLOWS. GOOD RESTAURANTS AND BARS CLOSE BY FOR EVENING,FOR BEACH AND SWIMMING, ALA MOANA BEACH PARK AND/OR THE HILTON HAWAIIAN VILLAGE BEACH ARE A 5 MINUTE WALK IN EITHER DIRECTION. CONVENTION CENTER AND ALA MOANA SHOPPING CENTER ALSO A 5 MINUTE WALK. AS I SAID, A GREAT LOCATION. NOT AS BUSY AND NOISY AS CENTRAL WAIKIKI. AND SIGNIFICANTLY LESS EXPENSIVE THAN THE BIG HOTELS AND WITH A LOT MORE CHARACTER AND CHARM.

The hotel was close to most everything we needed--food, dining, shopping. An ABC (convenient) store was right down the street with reasonable prices. The overall experience was positive

Very tastefully decorated, very neat and clean. Updated rooms, tasteful RL decorating theme.

Overall - great, especially value for money. Extra bonus -- fireworks over the ocean. Could be better -- the continental breakfast. But the coffee was good. Internet connectivity is great, but requires Ethernet cable. Suggestion for improvement: add wireless to room modem equipment. The room itself was excellent, even more to my personal tastes than typical high-dollar hotel rooms. Staff was excellent.

We booked into the Equus after having previously staying at the Aqua Wave (which by the way is fantastic). This Aqua was less desireable in that it had a small flight of stairs to a small lobby, shaky elevator, and not at all close to the beach. The room was adequate but no balcony and no views. After 2 nights the staff switched us to the Aqua Bamboo which we enjoyed much better.

I was a little concerned about the hotel after booking it considering the price we paid. I booked a trip for my retired parents and I from KC to Honolulu on United Airlines Orbitz hotel/airfare package for 7 nights at this hotel for $500 a person including all taxes. Needless to say I wasn't expecting much. After researching the hotel by looking at various books on Hawaii, I was most disturbed by the comment in the Frommer's guide about the area being, "dicey after dark". We did not go out after dark so I can't comment on that. It looked like it would be okay as long as you were traveling in groups. When we were late, late June, it got dark around 7:15 p.m. As other travelers have mentioned, it can be noisy so I did request a room on an upper floor and was given room 608 which is on the end. I don't think the noise level was any worse than staying in any other big city. They do offer free polo tickets (season tickets actually) although we did not go as we did not rent a car and would have had to go on the bus which was a long way from the hotel. A taxi from the airport for 3 people with 3 large suitcases and 3 small suitcases was about $40 with tip. We got lucky going back to the airport as there was another gentleman going at the same time and we split the cab fare. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the Ala Moana Shopping Center. The beach is about another 5-10 minute walk from there depending on how fast you walk. The hotel does not have a restaurant. There is an ABC Store right down the street and the Discovery Bay Center is just across the street from that. It has an Aloha Susi, McDonalds, Subway (no $5 footlongs, though, however the one at Ala Moana does), a sandwich wrap place, an Indian Restaurant and they are building a Buffalo Wild Wings although it was not open yet as well as a funnel cake/ice cream place that I never found open. There was a store there that also sells Aloha wear and some gifts. There is also a Red Lobster and Outback Steakhouse acros

I stayed at the AQUA Hotel at the International Mkt the weekend before and after a cruise last year and was pleased with the helpfulness of the service staff both times. This time I needed something close to the Hilton Hawaiian Village where my conference was being held. Once again, I was pleased with the helpfulness of the staff. If I needed directions to a beach, shopping, or bus hopping, they would guide me. The room was clean and the building well maintained. The continental breakfast was satisfactory- had great fresh coffee and fruit.

The Equus is small and old hotel but it is an easy 1.5 mile walk south to Waikiki. There is another beach about 3/4 north of the hotel. The continental breakfast is good. There are many resturants nearby and an ABC store (like a 7 Eleven) is at the end of the block. The windows look out at a high rise condo. The hotel was okay but I think I would take a chance on a similarly priced one closer to Wakiki.

This is a great hotel for the price and location. The best part is that the hotel is within walking distance from just about everything like(shopping mall, the beach, and great restaurants).

No on-site parking. Decent renovations, but no on-site parking means you'll be paying almost $20 a day to park next door (and good luck moving your bags during check-in/out).But you can't cross the street easily and have to walk out of your way to get to a beach. The staff was basic in support, the continental breakfast was sparse and not adequate. Supposed free internet requires a large modem from the front desk that has a very short broadband cable.

Upon check-in, I found half cups of coffee , a half-eaten can of Pringles, crumbs on the floor and trash on the tables. However, the beds were made so the previous occupants may have visited the room after it was made. My city view room looked at a building next door. During my 3 night stay, the room was made daily, although always around 4P. Plenty of clean towels and a new packet of coffee were always left. Pool is very small Continental breakfast, which normally consisted of dinner rolls, bananas or canned fruit, and coffee was poor in comparison to other hotels. I usually went to McDonalds or Starbucks just down the block. One computer is located near the lobby at .15/minute. No free wi-fi exists, as advertised, although you can borrow their one modem, if available. If you need a basic room for a few days, Equus is OK but there are better places for a few dollars more.

For how little the room costs, we were very surprised at the wonderful location and fine amenities. The remodeled room was very nice.

we had a great time. the beds were sooo comfortable. Service was great. The only thing we wish was a little better, the continental breakfast. It needed more variety. Otherwise staff excellent! Rooms where great atleast our rm was. It was our first time to Hawaii and im very particular about my room. I was very happy and we would stay here again. All our friends were at the same hotel, they all loved it. One block from the beach! WOW!

Great location, friendly, near mall, clean room, soft bed. One flight of stair to lobby & area small. It was great, near Ala Moana Mall, across yacht harbor. Everything with-in walking distance stores, restaurant near by but getting to the lobby with lots of bags was a challenge. No soap dish in the shower.

This place is really the best. For the money I paid and the service by all of the staff, I would have stayed longer and will stay there again. Plus an added bonus everything is close to the hotel, in walking distance. Somewhat disappointed with the wi-fi but otherwise just a really great place to sleep and get some work done. Thank You Everyone.

We were given one of the newly renovated non-smoking rooms on the 3rd floor and was very much impressed. Improvements done on floor-by-floor basis. Had few minor comments, but they had done an excellent job. Room was very clean, bed was comfortable, and bathroom was nicely redone. New flat screen TV, new small fridge, new AC. Construction scaffolding on outside of building. Parking is adjoining building. Housekeeping staff was helpful. Elevator needs improvement but not until remodeling is completed. Can hear street noise on lower level floor. Great potential. Rating based on our room only.

This hotel was offered as part of a package deal. It was fairly difficult to find, so better directions would have been big help. We requested washcloths and towels and were told that they would be sent up "as soon as they were available", which turned out to be the next day. The staff were not particularly attentive or responsive. There is no view, the room was very small, bathroom even smaller, and there isn't even a hint of any "polo grounds view". Traffic and Ala Moana Blvd. was all we could see. Lanai was too hot to use because the compressor for the room air conditioner was pumping heat down on us. Given all of that, if all you need is place to sleep while you do other things while in Honolulu, then the price on this hotel was right. It was functional, and clean, but not much more.

Good area and location. Parking is rated fair. Good location and walking distance to many areas of interest in Waikiki.
