Great location, friendly staff, clean, tidy and v good value ... oh and a POOL!!! ;-)Stayed 2 nights at the Emprador .... is very central and easy to get to from the airport using the metro. Staff were friendly and efficient and were swift to add a bed to our room when a friend turned up unexpectedly. Our room and the bathroom was very clean and although its a traditional hotel, it didnt seem wornout. The pool area was nice with views over the city and great service for food and drinks by the staff.

You must understand people at each country to understand service. This is a great hotel with great service for Madrid. Excellent location near to a lot of important locations (Puerta Del Sol, Cibeles, Gran Via, etc) stores (El Corte Ingles, Preciados Street), at least 3 Metro stations/lines within walking distance. Excellent breakfast whether your package includes it or not. Last year I chose Best Western for my stay (about two blocks away) considering that I'm a member of the Gold Club. Never again.

I would not stay at the Emperador again. There wasn't an iron in the entire hotel, and one would have to send out all clothing to be pressed. There was no hair conditioner, no tissues. The pool, the best feature of the hotel, was frigid and way too cold to even take a dip in.In general, Spanish speaking is a must in Madrid.

Bright helpful staff , beautiful hotel in an excellent position for getting around. Disappointed that they still allow smoking within communal areas.

My amigo and I decided to splurge a little and stayed at this beautiful looking hotel right in the heart of what amounts to Madrid's museum district (The Reina Sofia & Prado within walking distance). There is a bidet, something fascinating for any inexperienced American, and a wonderful cotton robes for post-shower lounging around. And if you want to watch a Chris Rock movie in German try flipping on the television. We were out late most nights and it was sometimes a hassle trying to get someone to let you in however this is class as best illustrated in that movie Trading Places.

What the hotel lacked in charm and personal service it made up for in location - you can walk everywhere you'd want to in central Madrid. The roof top pool and air con were also a god send in 35 degrees plus heat.

We only had two days in Madrid, the location of the hotel was important for us to be able to see as much as we could in a short time. The front desk helped find restaurants and gave good directions for getting around. We also got up graded and was able to take advantage of the relaxing concierge level. Free drinks and snacks after a long day of sightseeing was really enjoyable.

|This hotel is overrated and is not to be recommended. Facilities are limited, breakfast poor and rooms sub standard. Better value can be gained by staying in one of Madrids boutique hotels.

The Emperador ius well located and the public areas are very plush. We had a `Club Room` which turned out to be very small and expensive for what it was. The Tea/Coffee tray was missing and never materialised despite complaints. the `Mini Bar` in our room was really expensive aand the price list was missing so we had two fruit juices and a bottle of water for which we were charged 16€ and we only used the `Mini Bar` because the other in room catering facilities were missing. We have stayed all over the world and due to the room sizes and facilities I would rate the Emperador very poor value.

Although I made every attempt to speak Spanish and smile at receptionist checking us in he was coldly efficient but did not welcome us to the hotel or wish us a pleasant stay. We requested a change of room on day 2 as ours had not yet being refurbished and was not of four star quality. A most helpful receptionist made every effort to ensure that we were satisfied with our new room which was equally small but very nicely furnished.Bar staff and cleaning staff were superbly attentive. The location of the hotel is superb. There's a metro right outside the door (not mentioned in advertisment) and its in the heart of shops, cafes, etc. If you like a buzz outside the hotel but peace and tranquility inside this may be the hotel for you!

Room quite small but adequate. Pool terrace great, plenty of loungers, pool towels provided. Walking distance to most popular tourist sites. Metro close by.

We had a fantastic time, the staff are great, and the hotel is handy for all the shops/museums and is right next to the underground station. It is on the main street, so there are lots of restaurants/bars within walking distance. There is no restaurant except for the breakfast room, but we knew about that when we booked.

very good staff, helpful and polite. The hotel is in a great location for 1st timers in Madrid and acts as a great base for exploring the city centre. The room was nothing special and for the price i know there is much better to be found. I also did not appreciate being charged for internet use.

We have stay in Madrid at Hotel Emperador for three nights in August 2008. We booked for a double room and extra bed for a 7 years old kid, but we had with us the other kid too, 5 years old, and the reception stuff offered us a Club room, with no extra charge, which was very kind. The room was spacious. The furniture is a little old, but well maintained, and the overall looked well. The bath is large, clean and nice decorated. The breakfast was ok but not very rich, the vegetables (tomatos, etc) missing totally. Although I got tomatoes after I asked a waiter for. Minibar filled with lot of stuff, but we couldn't find the price list so avoided to use it. It proved very expensive, one night we used two bottles of plain water which costs about 10-12 euros (don't remember exactly). The pool on the roof very nice too, but the pool bar very expensive too (an orange and a tomato juice costs 16 euros). But they offered free peanuts and some other snaks.
