I stayed at the Elstead Hotel, Bournemouth. The reception was OK. The receptionists all friendly but the first receptionist didnt explain to me, that, the hotel "card" to gain entry to the "hotel room", also had to be placed into a electricity slot, to put the electricity on in the room. So I rang the receptionist and explained that there wasnt any electricity in my room- only to be THEN told what to do with the card. Inside it was extremely dated, old fashioned, shabby and tired looking. The decor looks very 70s, with cheap fittings- th screws in my fan in my bedroom were coming out and were making such a racket when the fan was on, I kept it off and opened the window when I was hot. The description that it is on a "quiet tree lined road" is a complete lie! Be warned it is on a busy road!!!!! The photographs are extremely deceiving!!!!! There are many** other hotels lining the street on either side of the road next to The Elstead. It was SO difficult to find in the evening- due to the "hotels" skimping on the lighting outside. I was driving in the dark for half an hour trying to find it. The car park will take about 20 cars and is free, which is one of the FEW positives. However it is normally very crowded and you may have to park on the road which admittably has good free parking- but obviousley is on a first come, first serve basis- you may have to walk a short distance to the hotel. I booked a "standard" single room which was very small, with a small cheap TV, a average sized single bed (with awful pillows) half a wardrobe, and a desk, all made of cheap pine furniture. 70's style curtains. A radiator underneath long hanging curtains (?!), which could easily be a fire risk. On a rare good note at least the room appeared to be very clean, and the towels were fresh from the laundry. In the shower room, there is a TINY basin, a toilet and a average shower. Not amazing water supply- the sinks water came out in spurts and took AGES to get ice cold if you needed a drink of water. If you stay bring bottled water! The kettle and refreshments on the table were good/average- but the kettle only JUST managed to fit underneath the TINY basin in order to fill it. The hotel skimps on towels. If you stay there, bring your own... There were only two in the bathroom (!!)- the largest of the two was not much bigger than a bath mat (I am not joking!!!) and the other a hand towel. The shower was nice and clean, but bring your own toilettries if you are staying. There arnt any complimentary ones- only fixed plastic containers screwed to the wall! Luckily I had bought my own! I didnt want to use the "hotels" after viewing them screwed to the wall- it was like being in a public toilet. The most you get is a "complimentary shower cap". Yippee. The bathroom is small but functional. The shower was the most modern item in the building. The room was so small I felt trapped. It was a horrible feeling. I just felt "I want to leave". Usually it would cost £75 (!) a night. Luckily I booked last minute and got it for £45 and only stayed one night. I would say that this is what a nights stay is worth- IF you used the leisure faclities. ( I didnt so I cant comment on those) As I was working away from home on the weekend, I didnot get back to the hotel until 8.30pm. By this time they had stopped serving food, and I was SO hungry. Luckily I had bought crisps with me and a few snacks. I was looking forward to the "complimentary breakfast" the following day more than anything. No more food after 8.30pm is just ridiculous. Make sure you dont bring any alchohol into the room (or get caught with it) The hotel charge upto £15 if you get caught PER bottle. If you make any phone calls these costs 25p per minute (locally only). Calls to reception etc are free. I didnt get to sleep until about 1am as people were being noisy past my door. Then again it was saturday night and to be expected. The following morning came, and I was looking forward to ordering breakfast to the room. So I called reception (the "room service" button on the telephone didnt work) and received the "I'm sorry we dont usually bring up cooked breakfasts to the room". YET it advertises "room service?!" Ah only cold cereal and toast they tell me... Bearing in mind I hadnt eaten a cooked meal in a day or so. "Ok toast and cereal thats fine. Could i order a sandwich aswell" *reluctant pause* I ordered the sandwich and received the breakfast quickly to their credit as I had to leave the hotel early for work that day. Breakfast arrives on a tiny teatray. Luke warm toast-almost cold. A few packets of butter and jam/marmalade. A small cereal box and a tiny jug of milk. A few napkins and bizarrely a huge bowel of sugar (for the cereal). I ate the toast near enough cold. Packed the cereal box in my suitcase, left the sugar and drank the milk. The sandwich I kept until later. The room service cost £3 which wouldnt be bad IF they gave you hot food. I found it poor and the food below average. Then I pack, I can't wait to leave!! I hadnt used any of the leisure facilities, I couldnt be bothered, I just wanted to get home which was 3 driving hours away. I wait in line to settle the £3 bill for room service, behind a 50 something blonde woman who is planning on booking her wedding anniversary at the hotel, all the meanwhile thinking; "Don't do it!!!" I settle the bill with the very camp recpetionist-then leave. Once I'm home, I open the sandwich wrapped in foil- It was supposed to be beef and tomato. Low and behold it is- but caked in blood, the beef looked old and as tired as the hotel, and I couldnt eat it due to the amount of grissle and fat all over the meat. It was SO revolting I had to throw it in the bin before I felt sick. So yes- that was my weekend away in Bournemouth that I was looking forward to.Would I recommend the "hotel" (more like a hostel) NO certainly not.It is not worth the time, effort, and most importantly not worth the money. The rooms are overpriced, and extremely poor. You are better off staying at the Premier Inn- they have lovely quality rooms. Stay away!

Just back from after a week. Hotel staff were fantastic. Food was great as well and we enjoyed the quiet location (although only a 10 min walk into the centre of Bournemouth). The children enjoyed the indoor swimming pool after returning from the beach (and also dragged us in after dinner). Room was also very clean and spacious. We look forward to our next trip to The Elstead.

Excellent value for money, very helpful reception staff.Easy to locate and close to town centre.Evening menue a little boring...local Indian very good thoughRoom standard good" received free upgrade on arrival" unfortunately a little noisy as hotel air conditioners were right outside windows which had to be kept open due to unbearable heat in room even with ceiling fan onUnable to sample breakfast as not available until 7.30am onwards, OK if on holiday ut if on business this is too lateOverall value for money and a pleasant stay , i would recomend!

Elstead Hotel ReviewThis hotel is something out of the 1980's/1990's. They need to revamp it in all honestly. Although value for money the hotel has Creeky floorboards and staircase, and has no a/c.

Fantastic StayWe arrived later than expected and were greated by a friendly member of staff. The room was a good size for a family and the decor was suitable too. The breakfast was tasty and the waiting staff were very helpful. We only booked for one night as a stop over but wished we had stayed longe. My only regret was I never had time to make use of the pool and steam room.

We wiill return to this hotelWe will use Late Rooms service again. Got our rooms for less than half price . Quite happily stay at the Elstead again. Ideal for what we wanted . Lovely breakfast and friendly staff and comfortable cool rooms with overhead fan.

Elstead HotelJust stayed here for one night to meet up with friends. Chose it due to price and location which are both great. Probably could do with a bit of updating but apart from that would definitely stay again.

Elstead Classic Hotel, BournemouthEven though we booked this hotel only for one night, we found it to be very comfortable and ideal for a Bank Holiday. The staff were very friendly and the room had everything we needed. The breakfast was very good, with plenty for us (even my 7-year-old son!) to eat.

dissapointedDouble room was very small, decor was awful, room was filled with the smell of dinner and breakfast each day and we were on the second floor. It smelt like a soup kitchen! Skipped breakfast because the smell was so bad. Pool and sauna were good. No soap in changing rooms though. Fairly good location. Just expected so much more for £100 per night. Almost felt like we were in a care home.

Friendly, uncomplicated and a great hotel. My 32 y/o daughter and I stayed for a couple of nights and had a room each. Rooms were lovely. Quiet, clean and confortable.

Great Big Bath, just what I needed after a long day. Breakfast good but they should review their allocated seating plan, I felt like the next step was the nursing home as we were all sat around the outside of the room!

Our weekend awayLovely hotel, very welcoming, clean, staff were polite & friendly, The hotel leisure facilities were great. Room was very nicely decorated & very clean. Would highly recommend this hotel. Have Stayed in lots of hotels in Bournemouth and I would suggest this one is certainly one of the best.

Fitting in FitnessLong opening hours of the pool and gym meant that I was able to get back to my exercise regime, which had been long neglected and returned home feeling relaxed and great. Enjoyed the fish at breakfast, another healthy start to the day. I really could have done without the pervasive smell of cooking that filled the corridors and even my room for hours of the day.

Overall we thought the hotel was great, the service excellent and the breakfast wonderful. The pool was great too and my daughter really enjoyed it although I think there was a little too much chemical in the pool.

Excellent buffet breakfast. Bar meals lacked variety, but were reasonably priced, and service was quick and efficient. I have no plans to return to Bournemouth, but would recommend hotel to friends, only at reduced price,

Room small but good. Breakfast great. Pool & jacuzzi a bit cool and far too much chlorine, although there was some maintenance about to be done.
