I did not think this "hotel" offered value for money. I paid £45 for B&B in a single ensuite room. The room in need of total refurbishment. Towels were stained. Flooring in the bathroom was peeling around the edges. I stayed 3 nights and had to wait over 10 minutes to collect the key for my room on 2 occasions. The first night, the whole upstairs stank of cannibis. Staff were unresponsive and I felt I was in the way most of the time. For the fee paid there is much better quality available. Avoid, avoid, avoid!!!

Great ValueGreat value for money, superbly comfy bed, great shower. Now just add curtains that block out the light and fix the squeaky floor boards in the room above (or force visitors staying there to get up AFTER 0500...) and I'll be perfectly happy.

You get what you pay forI booked this room as I just wanted to crash out for the night and did not want a hotel with frills. The room was small, which was expected for only 30 quid a night, but there was a strong smell of smoke, the bed cover was not clean and full of cigarette burns. The shower room down the corridor would have been unacceptable in a 1950's camp site. It was a very hot night and only a small top window would open so I had to jam the door open to try to cool the room down. Would I stay again? no but, to repeat, it was cheap and I guess you get what you pay for.

good value but very basic.Rooms very basic. Shared bathrooms and shower room also very basic and perhaps not as clean as it should be. It seemed that most other people staying at the hotel were business men and lorry drivers. Very good value for money as the price was far the cheapest in the area and that included breakfast.

I've said that I would not stay here again out of choice, but I am given a limited budget and there was very little choice at the time of booking. There was a lot of noise (raised voices)outside and around the hotel about 11 ish on a Monday night. A small point but nearly every door in my part of the hotel squeaked badly!! It's a convenient location and the hotel COULD be improved to be acceptable.

No frills good valueI normally stay in en suite accom. However on this occassion I used the basic facilities.Sheets clean, plenty of room. Breakfast hot. Not sure why they serve it on small plates as it is ample. I can understand earlier comments regards squeaking hinges. Although it appears as if there has been a paint job on the stair walls the hinges have not yet been oiled. For teh price not sure you can expect more than you get.

There was nothing wrong with the hotel, but I feel there was more that would be done to make it better, for instance, bedroom doors banged shut against wood, which woke me up when people left earlier than I, if they just had a soft draft proof to shut against I would feel it improved, the teabags and coffee and sugar and water in the kettle in the rooms seemed stale and I wasnt sure to try it, The bed cover was old, Clean, but old, Also the room key had an enormous metal key fob, as for the breakfast I had too leave early so didn't get to try the hospitality, as for the breakfast I just got the impression it came out of and industrial sized pack so lacked the taste of other products and I felt a load of bacon had been cooked earlier and a couple of rashers had been taken for me. Its all very minor issues but I feel I would look somewhere else before here again, which is sad considering a few minor improvements would vastly improve the place, That said I certainly wouldn't regret staying there again if I had to travel that way again.

Having read some of the negative reports I was not expecting too much. I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very helpful and I had an excellent room. The food was very good with plenty of choices and very reasonably priced.

Great value basic accomodationHaving read previous reviews I was anxious about staying here. I have to say those fears were unfounded. Staff were pleasant and welcoming, room was clean (basic single), breakfast was great. Its location is ideal for a one night stopover, Earley, the district is pretty well to do, has a couple of good pubs and is easy to get something to eat. All within easy walking distance. A regular and 24hr bus service runs to town centre. The Elmhurst offers great value for money and I recommend it as a basic B & B.

I had the cheapest room without ensuite, the room was very basic but gave good value for money. It would describe it as no frills, but does the job for the price. I would use it again.

Nice, quiet, friendly, but...Nice hotel, quiet location, friendly and helpful staff. Easy to get to by car or several buses. But the application of just a small amount of oil on all door hinges (bedrooms, corridors) would make the normal passage of people much less disturbing to everyone around them. In other words, all the doors squeak something terribly! I don't know why this has been allowed to get so bad - it's so easily fixed. Don't the staff hear it?

An enjoyable two nights stay at a budget price. We were pleasantly suprised with our stay after reading some of the past reviews. We found the staff made us welome and were very helpful, nothing too much trouble. The room was a good size with an en-suite bathroom with walk in shower. The sheets and towels were crisp white and the room lovely and warm and a decent size T.V. The food was good and plenty of it, also reasonably priced. Nice bar to sit and chat also comfortable television lounge. We noted there were plenty of buses into Reading which is only three miles away. We thought the price very reasonable and would certainly stay there again.

AverageI had a good sized room, and although the sheets were spotless the mattress had no protector on it which made it uncomfortable. The staff were lovely. But the whole place is a bit worn out! Free wi-fi was a bonus!

It is cheap! It is cheap (breafast included) and the room looks clean. It is an old BnD never refurbished... Staff in charge of the breakfast are nice and smily at least.
