Location Description:

The Lodge is centrally located in the town of Windermere, originally called Birthwaite until the Kendel and Windermere Rail company built a train station in the village and called it Windermere Station, a name which has been associated with the town and lake since.

Dining:

The Hotel offers a Cumbrian Breakfast which can be enjoyed in the bright, spacious and tastefully decorated Dining rooms. In one of the room's is a Grandfather clock which seems to add a little charm every quarter hour when it chimes. As the lodge is located only 2mins from the centre of the town, it has selected to only cater for breakfasts allowing the guests freedom to dine in the many restaurants and bars in the town.

The staff were all extremley helpful and friendly at all times. We stayed in a double room with ensuite which was clean and well equipped for our needs.

The LONG HOT Summer.A pleasant stay was had at the Ellerthwaite Lodge. The staff were brilliant with a real desire to do everything possible for the guests. Breakfast was eaten in very nice surroundings with a choice of food and drink large enough to satisfy the most difficult to please customer. The single room I had was a bit on the small side and with the heat did feel a little claustrophobic. It would be unfair to hold the hotel responsible for the heat. However it was incredibly warm. As the room was a ground floor one the need to restrict the windows ability to open was regrettably obvious but made it difficult to get any coolness circulating. The sink was very small but the shower was excellent. The T.V. offered 9 channels which was perfectly adequate for that late night viewing after a full day out. It's situation on the main Windermere to Bowness Road made getting to the lake and both bus/train stations very easy. I understand from conversations with other guests that the larger rooms offered a much better "deal" from the point of view of space so perhaps the surroundings would be better suited to couples or small families. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel/guest house to my friends.

lovely grand house with modern twistWe stayed in the actic room. Fantastic views of the hills in the distance. The whole hotel has had a complete renervation and looks stunning. Room was very clean with modern features, nice bath room with power shower above bath. 2 velux windows and nicely styled throughout. Staff were fantastic very helpful and friendly. Our parents stayed in the room overlooking the car park and also enjoyed thier stay. would certainly come her again,price was ok, for time of year.

RecommendI would highly recommend staying at Ellerthwaite Lodge and would certainly stay there again. The accomodation, cleanliness and and food were of a high standard. All the staff made us feel very welcome, they were very friendly and very helpful. The Lodge is in an excellent position for getting out and about during the day, and to be able to walk to local restaurants for an evening meal.

Ellerthwaite LodgeEllerthwaite Lodge was a great hotel for a short stay in the lakes. Our room was small but comfortable and clean. All staff where efficient, friendly and happy to help, plus the breakfast was great to fill you up for a days walking.The hotel dealt with late rooms mix up with our booking efficiently and even gave us complimentary drinks as we waited for the problem to be sorted. Great service, very happy.

EllerthwaiteUpgraded to a bigger room for free at the start so this was very generous. Was really good place to stay and I would highly recommend it. Friendly staff, room was great and was adequately kitted out with TV and coffee-making facilities etc. Perfect location only 1 minute walk from Windermere centre. Would happily stay there again.

Nice hotel but dont expect to be left alone while eating breakfast as staff constantly chat and your food gets cold. Beware not all rooms have a bath only a shower and there was a breeze coming through the windows that were not sealed properly and the raditors did not give any heat to the room. Also without being told we were charged for the use of a travel cot for a three month old baby each night yet bedding was not changed. . This was not advertised on this site or there own. There was no bar either and you cant check in after 9pm if you get stuck in traffic or snow. In short there are plenty of other places to stay in Windermere and I would not stay here again.

The whole package was exellent!! As soon as we walked in we were made to feel welcome. The staff were friendly and polite.The hotel was immaculate and the room we stayed in was beautiful.The bed was really really comfy! The hotel was close by to both windermere town and bowness which have many cafes, resturants and pubs to choose from. It is also centrally located to other towns in the lakes which is very useful. Would go back tommorow if i could!!
