It was a great resort with great activities, drinks and food. Rooms were nice besides the hard bed and small TV that only gets spanish channels. Very clean and no odors. We tried every sport they had availible there. Only complaint is some of the sporting equipment needed replaced...like the pool sticks, volleyball, and putters. Drinks are great as long as you specify what you want. You say whisky and coke, you get a splash of cheap whisky in Coke. You say two shots of Crown Royal and Coke, you get just that. Dos Equis was the only beer choice, which we did get tired of. Food was awesome, as long as you didn't eat from the buffet, which was not good. Rocky bottom in the ocean at the resort, which makes it a little treacherous, but makes for awesome snorkeling. It was like diving into a tropical aquarium with colorful fish all over the place. You can even feed them! The trip to town isn't too bad, about an 8.00 Taxi ride. The entire town is geared for tourism. It is all stores, shops, bars, and resturants. The other side of the island is not much more than open empty beach and beautifal water. A few little bars, but they don't even have electricity. Cozumel is an overall awesome place to spend a vacation, and this hotel is a great place to stay there.

Staff were always friendly and attentive. Everything was spotless. Having to leave. We were treated excellent. The food was above average and the beach was beautiful! We will be returning in October for an anniversary. Can't wait!

We stayed there for 6 days. The room was very nice, larger than expected. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel's beach appeared to be one of the nicer hotel beaches based on our misc. wanderings. No real negatives. Most of the food is on a large buffet, so you can't expect 5-star dining. It was good, with lots of variety. Since our package costs no more than many hotels without food and drink included, the food is like a bonus. We found the beds very firm, but comfortable. No problems sleeping after a day in the sun. Be aware that all inclusive means food and drinks, but not other activities like scuba or snorkling tours. The hotel does provide snorkle equipment for use off their beach, which is OK, but not spectacular. Since this trip to Cozumel costs about half of many Caribbean trips, who cares. Stay here and buy other tours.

Staff seemed bothered by any questions. Childrens activity center was a joke, there were no organized activities for the kids. Ordered room service one night and they lost our oder then when we called they said they would look into the matter. 4 hours later are ordered arrived and we were told they were out of coffee. The day we checked out we were told by the front end manager on duty that we were being charged 200 for a hole in the sheer curtain. The hole had been there since we arrived but the manager said that the maid reported it had been torn that day. My husband and I as well as both my young daughters kept telling her that the hole was already there and not made by any of us. She (the manager) said she disagreed and then offered to give us a 15% discount off of the 200 fee. During the rest of the argument she offered the following discounts off the fee 20%, 40% and then said her final offer she could help us with was 50% and that the maid would have the other 50% taken from her salary. I told her no we would not pay for something we did not do. She then asked my husband how much could we pay that she would accept any amount. I insisted to speak to a higher manager but was told that he was on an important phone call. In the end we were not charged but did miss the shuttle to the airport and had to take a taxi.

The hotel had decent rooms and good service. The food was okay, nothing spectacular, but what do you expect for this price?? We had dinner in the restaurnt twice, and both times were so/so. The duck was more like jerky, and the filet was bland. Entertainment at the resort was a joke, and don't bother going to the karaoke/dico. The snorkeling was nice, but a small area. I was disappointed with town, if the cruise ships weren't in everything was closed. We wasted taxi money trying to go shopping and to dinner. The island Jeep tour was nice, but fast....seemed to spend more time driving than at the attractions. I would advise renting a jeep and doing the tour yourself, you'd have a more relaxing time that way. If you're just looking for the ocean this is the place. I would deffinately stay here again.

Very nicely furnished, large rooms with a great view and very clean and bug free. It was hard to get dinner reservations for the restaurant between 6:30-7:30. This was our second stay at this resort. The rooms are great, large, clean & nicely decorated with a great ocean view. The food is moderate & we enjoyed most meals we had there. The pools aren't heated, so we didn't use them in March, but we used them every day we were there in June. We will stay there again on our next trip.

Just returned home and had to write a review! Very clean, friendly, sweet staff that really seem to enjoy their jobs! Food was good and well presented!!! Just enough change with theme nights and shows to make the good food seem better! Some of the food choices were great! We don't drink and were happy to find water and virgin drinks not a problem. Do not think there is a bad view from this hotel... just beautiful ocean views. Swimming pools were big and never felt crowded. Great kids areas and programs! Hamacks on beach were so relaxing! Special events and good snorkeling from the beach. When we needed a change Chankanab Park was incredible and only a 20 minute drive... great food and incredible snorkeling there! We will return to Cozumel and this hotel! Only negative was the work out room... all the equipment was hilarious! Good thing we were on vacation in a place where working out outside was easy!

We were pleasantly surprised by El Coz. Everything is located right on the beach. Take your own snorklel equipment because the water in front of the hotel is crystal clear. We saw alot of colorful fish right there. The hotel will supply snorkle equipment for 1 hour. You will want something on your feet if your not going to be wearing snorkle fins. Alot of people complained about the bed but we thought it was fine. The elevator doors open and you walk right out to the pool area. Part of the big pool is covered - with a waterfall for those that want to get out of the sun and there is a swim-up bar. The buffet restaurant is between the two pools. Food was typical buffet, but they also had hot dogs, burgers, nachos, etc. If you get sick of buffet selections you could order different sandwiches at the table or they will make you fajitas or quesadillas while you wait (lunch) For dinner you can make reservations starting at 8 am each day if you prefer to dress & eat in the ala carte restaurant. OR you can take a 5 dollar/5 minute cab ride into town (try Poncho's backyard-get a fishbowl margarita-food was great-very romantic!) Also, try the pirate ship/lobster dinner - it's a bit pricey but the show they put on is alot of fun! We were told that the hotel was booked 100% during our stay, yet we never had to wait in long lines. My husband and I have stayed in several of the fabulous resorts in the Riviera Maya area but to be honest , we prefer El Cozumeleno. We liked the fact that it was small and everything was close by.

The staff was wonderful!!! They were all so friendly and helpful!! The hotel has the most beautiful beach and amazing snorkeling right out front. You can check out snorkel gear for an hour at a time at the dive shop - and this is very well worth it. The waiters will give you some old bread to feed the fish with, which was a lot of fun. The rooms were always clean and were comfortable. We rented a Jeep right from the lobby and drove around the island. They had something planned every night and really made sure they had food for the kids. The pools are wonderful and very relaxing. We are hoping to return very soon.

Friendly and fun staff, well cleaned and maintained beautiful area and good food. All inclusives unfortunately will attract the people with a goal of getting and staying drunk the entire time. Beach at this hotel is better than others in the area. Lots of activities for everyone and great staff.

Everyone on staff is absolutely amazing, always so friendly.. Room service is super quick. The buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner were wonderful. The entertainment was really fun to watch. The beds are seriously hard...BUT you are so worn out from so much fun that you sleep some anyway. If you book water adventures yourself, alot of boats are not alowed to dock at the hotel pier, even to drop you off. I would recommend over and over.. great place. gina

El Cozumeleno is a lovely all-inclusive resort on the north end of Cozumel. There is a nice beach, with good snorkeling right off the beach. The hotel has built 2 piers that create a lagoon that is full of fish. The hotel staff will even provide bread so you can feed the fish. Our room was very nice. Tile floors, sliding doors to a 6' wide patio with chairs and a little table for breakfast coffee, and a nice size bathroom. Our housekeeper kept the room immaculate and left plenty of large fluffy towels. The pools are very nice. There is even a covered pool for those who've had too much sun. Fresh beach towels, and snorkeling gear are easy to get. Bring your own water shoes the beach is rocky in some areas. We will not return to El Cozumeleno because the food is just very poor. This is standard resort buffet food. For breakfast there are cooked to order eggs and omelets. Very nice, but the bacon is ends and pieces. The pasties were fresh and nice, but the fruit while pretty wasn't ripe. There was plenty of food to eat from 7 am to 11 pm. Chicken fingers, hot dogs, hamburgers, "super nachos" with that yellow cheese sauce that you buy in a can. We tried the ala carte restaurant 2 nights. It is a nice facility with an uninspired menu, and mediocre presentation. The service was good. We rented a car and drove to the west side of the island. It was spectacular. Take the time to see the real Cozumel. We ate at 2 restaurants in town, Casa Mission and Prima, both were excellent. Cab fair is only one way.

As my family and I arrived at the hotel we were greated with a fuity drink our bags were immediately taken to the room. Our room was ready and cleaned. Having a 9 year old I do appreciate the fact we were right on the 1st floor great access to the pools and the swings. Luved the movie night on the beach , especially the fact it was a movie for the family! They had a band on the beach which was excellent....the food was wonderful , it would be niced though if the dinning area was screened in from the birds...the birds are friendly but it would be nice not to have them in the dinning area while trying to eat.....luved the beaches , luved the shopping!!!!!!!!!!!!!Luved it!!!!!!

I have stayed in this resort before but before it had grown so much. It also wasn't an all inclusive resort then. The rooms are very generous in size but the bed was a little hard. We had a garden view which I was very happy with after hearing from others about the noise on the ocean side. There is lots and lots of different food to eat but we were a little disappointed in the quality of the buffet especially the desserts - THEY HAD SUCH BLAND FLAVOR, ALL OF THEM. I rarely allow myself desserts during the year, vacation is when I want sinful desserts and I did not get them. I enjoyed the drinks - just asked for a double shot in them. The staff are incredible, they make the place wonderful. We booked 6 dives through their on site dive shop - all were so incredible. Small groups. We spent very little time laying in the sun but I noticed that if you want a chair to lie in you have to get down to the pool by 8 a.m. or you will not get one. We never got in the pool because we dive and snorkle. I recommend this resort for families and older couples.

My friends and I stayed the El Coz for one week and it was great! The beds were a little firm, but I liked it. Our room was amazing! It was on the first floor and from our porch we can walk right out to the pool area! I was really surprised at how well the staff upkeeps the grounds, they're cleaning everyday! The food was okay, breakfast by far the best. The snack bar was really convenient and the food wasnt terrible. The beach was a little rocky but it was gorgeous to snorkle in. My friends really enjoyed the mini golf course! We went on a snorkling trip and booked it through the trip advisors in the lobby. It was great! But by far the BEST thing to do is going on the Pirate Lobster DInner Cruise! It was a little pricey, but well worth the money! You get a great show, steak/lobster, all the drinks you want. You sail around the coast for a couple of hours, right during sunset! We had an amazing time. I'd also recommend Guido's Restaurant in town.. a small quaint Italian joint. They make great pizzas and sangria! Overall, we had an AMAZING time. The service was outstanding and everyone had a smile! I would definitely recommend the El Coz!

We love El Cozumeleno and don't even consider staying anywhere else on the island. The resort is small enough that you don't feel overwhelmed by the crowd. The beach has great snorkeling (unlike the southside resorts) and you can walk down the beach nearly a mile and explore the rock formations. It's lovely and relaxing. The food is always good, especially in the reservation-required restaurant. The staff is great and we don't mind if they don't speak perfect English. We love playing the putt-putt course and the two pools aren't all that crowded either. We like the older side of the hotel because the rooms are bigger. And we don't expect soft beds anywhere in Mexico. I can't believe all the people complaining about hard beds. It's a hotel for goodness sake. For the price, this is always the best deal. The resort does have bikes, but you have to take a scheduled tour. It's nice, but can be trying with the heat/humidity. I wish they'd let us take the bikes out on our own. We already have our July 2009 trip planned to El Cozumeleno. It'll be our 5th visit. No worries about the Mexican violence at an all-inclusive on an island. Not so sure about Cancun any more.

We are biologists in our late 20's and were looking for a good "base" for exploring: all-inclusive, good value, good location. At first I worried, because reviews were either outstanding, or poor, no middle ground. It depends what you expect. If you expect gourmet food 24/7 and absolute luxury, you will be disappointed. We thought the hotel and grounds were extremely clean, and the service was excellent. Meals are 3-tiered; there is a snack bar, buffet, and restaraunt. The snack bar has pizza, chicken nuggets etc from around 11-4, and 4-11pm. Breakfast and lunch buffets are in El Cocal. At breakfast they have a guy making omlettes and smoothies. At lunch the buffet is open, and you can also order off a menu. Dinner is a buffet, menu, or you can make reservations for fancy dining inside (which has a dress code, great, but not excellent food, RSVP EARLY!). If I ate exclusively at the buffet, I would have been tired of it. But we were out a lot, ate out a lot, and enjoyed the culture more than hanging around the resort all day. Bars and drinks are plentiful - cocktails are mad from scratch with little pre bottled mixes - the chili powder/salt rim on the margaritas are a nice touch. Our room was very large, and very clean. The beds were firm but not lumpy. Its a 1-hr walk to downtown, or a 5 cab ride, but it is like that with most hotels. It had mini golf and a great 3-tier pool. Beach has a long pier and is rocky in parts. This makes for excellent snorkeling right there, but is a downer if you love all sand beach. Fishing guides, dive boats pick you up at the pier. I recommed Fury Catamaran.

The room was clean and the staff were frequently cleaning the rest of the hotel. Our first room had air conditioning problems, and the staff gladly moved us. Snorkeling at the hotel was convenient. The food was decent, but we would highly recommend making reservations at La Veranda. The staff were attentive and friendly.
