I'm always here. They have the best downtown sportsbook. Even when the big name casinos don't have your game on TV, you can count on the El Cortez. Their blackjack rules are better than most casinos. Plus they have a side bet option where they pay 25 times your bet on face cards of the same suite and 5 times for other suite matches. If you only place this bet from time to time, expect to get thrown out if they check the hole cards and find all the same suites. Nobody is more paraniod of card counters than the Cortez. One unique feature of the El Cortez is that the dealers at the table games all speak multiple Asian langguishes. If your or your guest speaks an Asian Languish as their 1st languish. THEY WILL LOVE THIS PLACE. nothing quite like help in your own tongue. Haven't slept here in over a year, but had no complaints.

Rooms are small but bed is comfortable and the air conditioning works very well. Close walk to Fremont street experience and deuce bus stop. OK for Las Vegas on a budget for single person. Not recommend if you are going to have more than one person stay in the room since it's very small.

Good old town Vegas location and reasonably priced drinks. The rooms and hallways had a poor smell. For a weekend Vegas trip this hotel served it's purpose as a place to shower, sleep, and store my luggage. The bathroom was pretty clean but the room itself had a very poor odor and the carpet definitely needed to be replaced.

Stayed in the vintage room. Great casino access, great view, nice decor but smoky. Love the hotel and casino. Great access to Freemont Street at a fabulous price (3 days for $56).

This was my first trip to Las Vegas, so I didn't know what to expect. Upon arrival, I was immediately happy at our decision to try El Cortez, in spite of the neighborhood it is in. There is a block between El Cortez and the Freemont Street Experience that is old, and run down...but the locals assured us that in the near future, that block is going to be renovated, which will connect El Cortez with the other hotel/casinos Downtown... You can see right away they have recently renovated much of the place! For the rate we paid, which was really low...the room was nice...we stayed in a pavilion room, which you could tell had been recently repainted and carpeted. The bed was brand new and very comfy...the only complaint about the room was there was some mold near the ceiling of the shower...and when I brought it to the attention of the hotel staff, it was largely ignored...no one ever corrected the problem. I am chalking it up to the fact that it IS an older part of the hotel, and we will pay a couple of bucks more to stay in one of the newer rooms of the hotel. The casino is very nice...they must pipe in an air freshener because it always smelled good...in fact we purchased t-shirts in the gift shop and they smell just like El Cortez. Cafe Cortez has wonderful food...great service, huge portions and take advantage of your fun book coupon!! The service of the cocktail watiresses was hit and miss in the casino...sometimes we got served very well, and other times it was as if the servers were just doing fast laps...we found this to be the case everywhere in Vegas though, even though we did tip generously. We will be back!

I like the fact that we were off the strip and were able to get away from all the people. the room was very nice but first floor next to the street so we were able to hear people and cars, other than that it was quiet. No pool we were bummed but we like the place.

Room was clean, quiet and relaxing. The sitting room was a nice touch. Television channels were too few. The room was quiet, roomy and had a magnificent view. The casino was well kept and security was good.

I stayed a weekend at El Cortez, as Hotels in LV are more expensive at Weekends and i felt i wanted a Hotel that was Cheaper. Its location is just down from freemont St, Its a little bit Smoky compared to some others and i found it a bit noisy staying in the Vintage rooms with some revellers coming from Freemont. All in all good value for Money in one of LV's original Hotels, and Room cleaned every day, though i prefered staying at the other end of town.

There were a group of morons trying to check in ahead of me that acted like they had ever been checked into a motel before. So the clerk finally moved me ahead of them and upgraded my room at no extra charge. The room was clean and nice with a loveseat and table. Bathroom was a little small but worked.

The tables were so much fun to play at. The restrooms were very dirty. After finding them dirty more than twice, I had to go to my room when a restroom was needed. This hotel was nice for a last min trip to Vegas. Was pleasantly surprised of the concert held outside our hotel. We are going to stay there in the future!

The Steak & Shrimp dinner special for $7.95 was very delicious, and abundant. The other meals we ate at the hotel were good as well. Keep up the good work. We will definitely be back and will be recommending the hotel to others.

Reserved one of the vintage rooms accessible from the stairway. It was a smoking room and there was a slight stale smoke odor, but nothing bad. Super clean and nicely decorated. Not a large room or bathroom, but very adequate. The cafe was very nice to have on location and was open 24 hours, but has a limited menu overnight. Walking distance to Fremont Street Experience. This area has been cleaned up significantly since my last visit to Vegas a year ago. Security people on bikes and people on the street which resulted in no panhandlers. Also lighting is very good at night. Very quiet street, just a siren here and there. I think the city has really made in effort in bringing the outer edges of downtown appealing. The Deuce, (a double decker bus), has a stop one block away and is a great way to get over to the strip. Nice and clean way to go and cheap too. I think it was $3.00 each way. We were both given a discount book at check in and included everything from a free drink/beer, food deals, and even free slot play. Excellent staff at check-in and in the restaurant. It is the old Vegas charm that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. At checkout we were brought to the airport in a newer minivan and we were the only two on it. The driver was very professional and courteous. Only a 20 minute ride. I can't say enough about this place. I was pleasantly surprised. Excellent price, almost unreal. We're going back in April for another quick getaway. This is not a resort type atmosphere. No pool or other frills, just a nice older place with many repeat customers.

It's the Summer of 1969 on Fremont Street, commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock, and El Cortez offers the absolute best deals for enjoying the Fremont Street experience. The key to a perfect stay at El Cortez is understanding its layout and tailoring the layout to fit your personal needs. Vintage Rooms, as I understand it, are all smoking rooms but located closest to the casino. Pavillion Rooms are located directly over the garage for easiest access to your vehicle and feature both smoking and non-smoking rooms. Tower rooms offer the best deal in my opinion and are very well furnished and insulated. North facing Tower rooms are quietest. South facing rooms offer the best views of the Strip. Rooms on the fourteenth and fifteenth floor rooms feature balconies. The Cafe Cortez features an ambitious menu ranging from Chinese cuisine to conventional Las Vegas fare. I have yet to be served an unsatisfactory meal. Service is extremely cordial and professional. If staying for the weekend, don't miss the Huck Huckabee live jazz jam sessions in the Cortez lounge. Price of admission is a two drink minimum. General clientele at El Cortez tend to be locals and regularly returning guests. The casino has a very laid back, "Old Vegas" feel and is a far cry from the crush of the Strip experience.

The price was great and the hotel served my purpose. The hotel lobby is confusing, elevators and some outside areas smell funny. If you are looking for a cheap hotel to stay in that is close to the strip, this would be a good choice. There is a Walgreen's and a small super market close to the hotel. The room was fine and we just used it to crash in the night. Do not go to the Chinese restaurant that is located in the hotel. It is horrible.

El Cortez was great i give it a 9 out of 10 only because there was no in room coffee pot other than that everything was great very nice place to stay, and will do so next time in vegas, but please put a coffee pot in the room.

stayed at older building, u can basically hear door (both front door and shower door) slamming from next room LOUD and CLEAR ! Air cond circulation wasn't the best. shower drainage is very slow.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed our non-smoking room. I would have liked to have a pool. This hotel is older, but is clean and is in very good condition. The guest population was older than what I saw on the strip. The atmosphere was more relaxed. The hotel is a block from the shuttle to get to the strip, and a block from the Freemont Experiencee. I enjoyed my stay here and would stay here again.

Great value. Good free valet. Terrific food in restaurant. Generous comps. Good odds on single deck blackjack but has gameslowing sidebet that the locals make you play. Dealers shorted me coloring up twice, but pitbosses corrected it. I liked my stay overall and will stay again.

About the 4th. time i stayed here in 2 yrs. always stayed in the tower rooms. very clean, housekeeping there everyday, asking if i need anything, 5min. walk to fremont exp. cafe is good in hotel, also a subway, coffee shop. I have nothing to say neg. about this hotel always had a real good stay. And best of all was the price.Will return.
