i have stayed in czm 4 previous times and el cid is by far the best choice i have made yet.i am a scuba diver so everything i needed was right on site. my room was on ground level, beach side right by the ocean for easy access to international pier dive with martin or el cid dive shop as well to choose from.it was a nice place to snorkel also ..saw a sea horse , flounder and other marine life that you normally see only on dive trips...the staff was friendly, courteous, and very helpful with all my needs. would stay again no problem...no swine flu in czm!!loved it!!

We love this hotel (before the hurricane and after)~the staff and rooms are beautiful! Our room had a small kitchette, 2 full baths, great king size bed :) and pull down Murphy for guests. Many times I felt like we were the only people at the hotel! It was incredible, very private and few crowds! I can't say anything but how wonderful this hotel is...stay in the tower where the best views are :)

This hotel has a lot of good things going for it, such as location and great snorkeling right of their beach for free. A luxury spa hotel it is not. They do have massages on the beach and in a small room inside. That is about the end of the spa services. They have a sauna but it is broken. The decore of the rooms looks pretty but uncomfotable beds and sheets combined with a loud air conditioner make sleep hard to achieve. Watch out for the Fleas, be sure to pack some off. Don't bring any beach towels up to your room or your room will be infested too. When we checked in they spent about 20 minutes trying to convince us to go to a timeshare presentation. The pool was very nice and warm and had a play pool for babies. The rooms have great views of the ocean. they do not have their own potable water so you have to get water to brush your teeth or make coffee.

The hotel is nice, but somewhat annoying to have a massive cruise ship sitting right in front of your hotel, blocking your view.

Everyone at El Cid went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and they took care of anything we needed. The rooms were very clean (everyone has an ocean view) and comfortable. There's scuba diving onsite along with activities for the kids and adults. It's best to get down to the beach a little early if you're looking for shade.

The hotel had a great atmosphere and was clean. The view was nice but it was right next to the cruise ship dock in repair. A lot of banging early in the morning hopefully not for too much longer. The rooms were very nice with good housekeeping and furniture. The waiters at the restaurant gave us the wrong bill on 3 out of 5 times we ate there. They have a few things to work on in terms of training. Other than that, it was appropriately valued.

The moment I checked in I was bombarded with time share options. Only about half the staff speak English and they only know basic English...common questions a guest would ask or how to persuade you to purchase a time share. I would not go to the timeshare breakfast even if you are offered a discount on tours. You will be so frustrated by the end and they don't take no for an answer very easily. The room is pretty nice...the bed is hard as a rock, but I love the balcony. I didn't mind the cruise ships in front of the hote...they don't block the entire view. The bathroom in the rooms are very nice, my favorite part. There is a granite garden tub, but the shower is made for people under 5'8, I am 6'0. There was also not much lighting, so I do not recommend doing your makeup in the bathroom, but the garden tub made up for it. The hotel does offer activites, but trying to get someone to direct you where to go for them is a struggle..I gave up. The pool is pretty nice, the hot tub is not very hot and the beach is okay. There is sand, but you need to take steps down into the water, which are very slippery (I fell). There is always a waiter asking for drinks--a nice touch. The food is not too bad. I would only recommend because I know what to expect.

They've done a nice job recovering from the hurricanes. The rooms are clean and bright. In our 1-BR suite, the kitchen was clean and well-equipped. Furniture was comfortable. Pool and lobby areas are nice.Unfortunately, the service came up a little short. First, like everywhere in Cozumel, they hound you about buying a timeshare, always couched in terms of a free meal, discounted services, and so on. Second, the front desk and concierge are not very responsive. No one seems to know how to control the heat in the jacuzzi.Restaurant is mediocre; much better options in town.

travelers beware this is kind of a time share deal. We had to sit thru a 90 min. sales picth. The dive peer for the boats was not complete, and it is to tall for most boats.

El Cid had great value for the money! We had to wait for our room after check in, however, it was a comfortable room and over all, a comfortable hotel. The location is very nice, also. I could see the cruise ships from my room.

The room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. We were on the 10th floor but the many cruise ships not only blocked the ocean view but also created a great deal of noise in the area. The noise and commotion was really annoying and made it harder for me to simply relax and enjoy being by the water. In the restaurant, the meals were way overpriced. The waiters made it clear that they were only paid $5.00 USD per day and relied on tips for their livelihood.

Overall my stay enjoyable. Great location - close enought to downtown to get to, but far enough to feel secluded. I loved the outdoor waterfront spa and the massage and facial were fantastic, with the sound of the waves only feet away. The food was excellent (avocado with shrimp was the best) and 2 for 1 drinks every day for happy hour were an added bonus. The hammocks and small beach were where I spent most of my outdoor time during the day and the jacuzzi at night. The pool was spotless, so was the jacuzzi until the last night. I was disappointed I didn't get to go in it the last night we were there, but there were things floating in it, not sure what, but it was the only time, so maybe they just didn't clean it as good that day. I'm just glad I looked before getting in. I didn't mind the cruise ships in the view as others have mentioned and the horns were only 2 minutes a day so it didn't bother me at all. I did feel like some cruise goers who used the facilities during the day were annoying but I figured regular guests could have acted the same way. The hotel sells day passes for the use of the facilities to people coming off the cruise ships. I was very disappointed when we checked in. I had requested a room with King bed and pull down bed. Luckily the other person staying in my room did not come, because the ONLY room available in the hotel had one pull down bed in it that was hard as a rock. They offered to switch me the next day, but it was too much of a hassle and my back hadn't started hurting yet after the first night (it did after the second in the bed). Also the room doors lock automatically when they are shut, but do not have any interior security lock, chain or deadbolt - NOTHING! I was schocked, and when I questioned the front desk about it, they acted like it was no concern. So I put a chair under the door handle every night - so I would have warning if anyone did try to enter (single woman by myself in a room) - maybe a little paranoid, and I wasn'

I would recommend this hotel to friends and family.I liked the fact that they have a purified water system for the hotel. The resturant food was some of the best we had on the island. Service was a little slow somtimes, but still ok. Our room was large and very clean, the only problem I could name with the room, was in one of the bathrooms there was a sewage smell coming back up thru the tub and sink drains. We just kept the stoppers closed ,problem solved. Its right next to the cruise ship pier, but we didnt mind watching the ships. They arrive around 8 and are usually gone by 5,so you still see the sunset! The massage we had thru the spa was the best I've had!!!Its a little out of town but taxis are everywhere you wont walk long till one finds you. If you need any info on something ask the front desk their very help full.

The room was OK. but needs more space to move around. The plumbing in the bathroom was noisy due to leaking faucets. There were ants in the room caused from the rain.

I was pleased with the cleanliness of the hotel. That is a top priority for me. I had to visit with the Concierge while my room was supposedly not ready for me. It was just a ploy to get me to listen to the info about a seminar they were having the next day about Cozumel real estate. I told them that I wasn't interested. Then, they gave me the pricing for extras at the hotel (activities, etc.) and of course the price was much better for everything if I went to the seminar. If I didn't, the price was much higher for everything. After they told me this, my room was surprisingly ready. It took me about 40 minutes before I could get into a room.Plus, the wait staff was not as friendly as I had been told they were.
