Date of Stay:

I was in NYC for the weekend and was looking for a decent yet cheap hotel for an overnight stay. I zeroed in on Econo Lodge coz of its decent tariff and free breakfast (so i wouldnt have to spend another 20 bucks for breakfast outside!). But the breakfast was pitiful. It wasn't even close to saisfactory. If you can shell out that extra 25 bucks you can get a much better deal elsewhere. If you are exhausted and just need a bed then go ahead (rooms are quiet and neat enough inside, but most of the hotel seemed to be under construction so it wasn't very clean outside the rooms). But i wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for more than just a restful sleep, especially at that price!

Walking distance to izod center.

Not only did they get the room wrong. We asked for smoking and they booked us a non smoking room. Also at 8am they were doing renovation to the hotel which made rest very hard to get after getting in very late. The room was not clean, neat,or any appliances that were in the room either did not work or just was not there. So to say the least I would never stay at this hotel again.

The staff here was very friendly and helpful. They have printouts and bus schedules in the office with directions on how to take the bus in and out of NYC, including the departure gate number at the Port Authority. The bus goes directly to the Port Authority and is much faster than I expected (about 15 minutes). We asked the driver to stop at the Econo Lodge as we left NYC and had no problems getting back to the hotel. The hotel has a nice breakfast including cereal, muffins, juice etc. The area around the hotel is a little dirty, but our room was clean and comfortable. The hotel is under construction. We were up by 9 a.m. and returned after dark so construction noise was not a problem for us. They have free covered parking and I noticed that the parking lot is under surveillance in the hotel office. Overall the hotel exceeded my expectations and is a great place to stay when trying to see NYC on a budget.

The Econolodge Carlstadt was 15 min. by bus to Times Square. The price was great compared to other hotels in the area. The area is safe. There aren't many food options. The rooms have only have a fridge and you have to use the microwave in the lobby. The room smelled like cigarettes and a public bathroom. There were cigarette burns and stains everywhere, on the floor, furniture, walls. I was afraid to sit on anything. There was a lot of hair in the bathroom. Because they were filled to capacity, we couldn't get a larger room until the last night. It looked newly remodeled, tastefully decorated. My only complaint was that there was plastic on the mattress which made it hard to get comfortable.

Convenient location to where I was visiting. Guests were very loud and their voices echoed. I only choose this hotel because I needed a place to sleep. It was very dirty, and the houskeeping forgot to take care of things in my room. I would not recommend this hotel if you have young children.

I checked-in at 3 PM after a long drive and was unable to sleep until about 8 PM because of the construction work going on inside the building. It was too noisy. Toilet flush was broken. Terrible experience!

It was very close to the Bamboozle festival we came to see. The lobby/breakfast area was very small and the washroom was a bit dingy. Though the hot water in the shower was not always hot, our room was cleaned everyday and we were given fresh towels everyday as well. The continental breakfast was generous and and hotel was walking distance from the giants stadium. A direct bus to New York stops just across the street. I would stay there again.

Listen - it is a place to put your head! It isn't fancy but it is clean - the staff is very nice and prompt, I was allowed to bring my small dogs, and who can beat the price! Plus there is a bus line across the stree that goesw to NYC every 15-30 minutes ALL DAY EVERY DAY :)There are two great food places nearby-- Redds and The Grasshopper. Plus you are two blocks fro, Giants stadium. The gas station prices were the cheapest around, too.You aren't going to get mints on your pillow-- but who cares? I thought it was just fine for a family of three and 2 small pups.

Room was very clean and comfortable. Courtyard. It worked well for us. We went into NYC and the bus was a block away. At night, bus dropped us at the hotel. Clean and comfortable. Would stay again.

I stayed here spring of 2007 and it was OK. I came back March 2008 and what an improvement! The hotel is under new management and they have made many changes to the building and the rooms. The staff was helpful and friendly and seemed very proud of the ongoing improvements. This hotel is a great choice if you want a nice, inexpensive place close to the city. The bus stop is across from the hotel and the bus will stop at the hotel on the return trip. We had no problems at all with our two night stay.

This hotel was dirty. The air conditioner was broken. We were so dissatisfied that we did not want to stay the second night.

Location was good, access to NYC was very good. Improvements not completed. Nearby bus stop provided easy access to NYC which is what we wanted. The room price was reasonable. This is not a fancy hotel but was very adequate for what we wanted which was easy access to NYC.

I knew I was staying close to the Meadowlands, but I didn't realize until I got there how close I was to NYC also. The bus goes right from the hotel to Port Authority. Very convenient. The staff was very accomodating. The rooms were on the simple side but at least it was clean. As I left, I overheard them talking about the new furniture that's coming in. If I can save money and get convenient access to NY and the Meadowlands, I'll stay again.

I had a late check-in. The room was a filthy mess. This floor was dirty (not just sand here and there - it looked like the floor hadn't been vacuumed in months), and there was dirt and spots all over the bed sheets and pillow cases. Upon closer inspection of the junk in the bed, at least one of the spots was a bug of some kind (bedbugs??). This room looked like a set from some cheap horror movie. I called a quality local hotel myself, checked out, and called it a night. When returning the keys to the front desk, I told the guy there why we were leaving. He offered me a different room. That was laughable, and he was absolutely indifferent about the condition of the room he tried to put me in. Moreover, he seemed not be bothered in the least that was I leaving completely frustrated at 2:00 a.m. The Bottom Line - Never stay in this hotel. My expectations were not high (Econolodge - what did I expect, right?), but this was terrible. The quality of the room was only matched by the quality of the customer service.

Convenient to bus stop to NYC. Bathroom door was broken and would not shut, lock on the door was broken, bathroom had hair all over floor and bathtub drain was clogged.
