We have just returned from a lovely weekend break with our 3 year old daughter and mother and father in law. The hotel was great, lovely room, a bit hot, but had a fan above bed which helped, the staff were very friendly, couldn't be more helpful to our daughter, the food was excellent and of a high standard. We would definitely return to this hotel.

Initial room allocation / spa opening hoursHaving paid for an executive double on arrival we were given a room (#12) which was small and overlooked a terrible plastic room. The bathroom clearly hadn't been refurbished and there was no mineral water or robes, which were included. On asking to change rooms we were moved to #106 which was larger, had a better view and the bathroom had been refurbished, but not to a very high standard. After sorting that out we then went to the spa at 19:05 which we have been told by reception closed at 19:30. On entering the spa the cleaner told us that last entry was 19:00 so we couldn't use it. We were very disappointed about this and on top of the initial room allocation fiasco it was an awful start to out first anniversary celebration as you can imagine. It practically ruined the evening. The website states that it is open until 9.00pm (last entry 8.30pm).Breakfast the next morning was excellent and when we eventually used the spa it was very good apart from the sauna being out of service.

The hotel was generally very good, facilities were excellent and staff helpful. My main issue was that our room wasn't made up at all during our stay so no clean towels, no coffee / tea restocking in the room etc.

Not Value for MoneyHotel had lots of facilities but also lacks many you would associate with a four star hotel such as air conditioning and an in room fridge/mini bar. We stopped in a front room and had to open the window for fresh air but were unable to sleep well due to constant traffick noise. Stayed on a room only basis and was offered breakfast at £9.50 per day many quality cafe's within ten minutes walk offering good breakfasts for £3.95 - £5.99, so cant really comment on food quality. The leisure club has good facilities but could do with a serious refurb as could the relaxation pool I actually cut my foot on the loose mosaic tiles, mens changing room is shabby with basic shower and rusty lockers not what youd expect from a four star that I normally stay at. Finally the rooms were nice and cleaned daily but common areas were given less priority. Spilt corn flakes in the antiquated lift accompanied me up and down to the third floor for at least two days before being cleaned up.

The trouble with the top floor...In the end, this was a cheap room in comfortable surroundings so not much to complain about really. I was attending a dinner, so didn't really get chance to use the facilities of the spa etc. and can't comment. However, room was at the top of the house, and (for once the weather was excellent) very hot without aircon, and there was very little soundproofing from next door which was irritating when I attempted a post journey/pre dinner nap. I wasn't warned that there was no lift up from 3rd floor to 4th. Had the feeling that I'd been given a room held back for cheap discount purposes ie. laterooms arrangements. I hope not, as I really don't like that approach. These rooms are supposed to be cheap because the booking is late, not because the rooms aren't as good as others in the hotel. I was asked on arrival if being "above lift level" was "all right", and didn't argue because of my very limited stay and am thankfully in reasonable condition (!). Would do next time though. I didn't think "fab hotel" and look forward to return. Would try somewhere else next time I think. Adequate but not much more.

family break/ recouperationI booked this weekend away for myself and mother as her mother day present, we dont often get a chance to go away together. A week before we were due to go i had to go into hospital unexpectedly for a minor operation, i had considered cancelling the weekend away but thought it would be nice to have a break (help recover).we arrived on the Friday and was very pleased, our room was lovely, the staff were friendly. On the saturday night the hotel had a party which went on very late and it was very loud, normally it wouldnt of bothered me so much however due to this op i needed the rest and afew other guest with children werent very happy either. It would have been nice if the hotel staff had pre- warned us that this party was taking place atleast then we would have been prepared or maybe even considered cancelling the trip.

The hotel was in a good location close to town and the beach with ample car parking. It was very clean with excellent facilities such as sauna swimming and beauty treatment. however was let down by poor customer service. I believe the rooms given to "Laterooms" customers were the noisiest all next to the heating system for the swimming pool and with no view at all. The room also had minor faults with no lighting or fan system working and took atleast 5 verbal complaints to get fixed. This was a shame as the hotel was let down overall by this.

The hotel was beautifully presented and the rooms were lovely but I felt the restaurant was not of the same standard. I think the menu is trying too hard to be something special but isn't succeeding. Tempura fish and chips was described as 'normal' fish and chips by the waitress (so we didn't really understand the point of the 'tempura' description and the thai style salad was a bizzare collection of a huge tasteless breast of chicken piece (albeit with a drizzle of thai style sauce) with a mini pot of small chicken pieces served with a bed of regular letucce tomato cucumber salad. The chocolate terrine dessert came with a 'shake' that was a thin mini milkshake severved in a plasic cone. We weren't quite sure what to do with this as it came with a chocolate stick that was neither a scoop, spoon or a straw. The dining room staff were either friendly but not able to speak/understand english or who could speak english but weren't very friendly. In addition we asked for a high chair which we had to ask to be cleaned and when it was too small we weren't offered a replacement although at breakfast other high chairs were available. I would eat here again for convenience but not out of choice. The afternoon/evenng hotel receptionist was lovely though and organised milk for my baby niece as well as assisting with other requests. For a bournemouth hotel I was surprised at the complete lack of local information available. One receptionist wasn't even able to advise how we could get to the aquarium or even advise roughly where it was. She did however find a small black and white photocopied map so we explored on our own which was fine.

Excellent hotel short breakAlthough when we arrived they had made us up a twin room even though we had booked a double, they soon sorted it out and made sure we were happy. Everything was so clean and comfortable. The room was of a very high quality even for a standard room including a plasma screen and a balcony. The spa was so luxurious and was great that we could use it for free as well as free parking. Our meal there was very resonalbly priced for fine cuisine. I would definitely stay here again as I have no complaints and it is so close to Bournemouth town centre.

Double check what room you are put in!!Though the large pool and dining area were very nice the room we were given (room 60) was absolutely boiling hot. The windows face other rooms and opened on to the fire escape so we could not leave the windows open when we were out or the curtains open when we were in. This meant there was absolutely no air circulation. We did ask for a desk fan on the second day which was delivered promptly, but just moved the hot air around the room. the bathroom was newly refurbished and had been done to a good standard. The jacuzzi and pool area was good except when the bubbles stopped in the raised seperate jacuzzi the water was minging, really needed changing. Please also be aware there there is a step between the pool and pool jacuzzi i gauged a chunk out of my leg swimming throught the gap.

A little disapointedThe hotel is really well situated for the beach and the town centre. I was a little disaapointed with the hotel room as i feel it could have been updated a little more and the bathrooms certainly needed updating. What did let this hotel down were the spa facilities. The pool was very small and the changing rooms were like something out of the 1980's and were in dire need of updating. The hotel also let itself down with little things like external lights hanging off the wall and simple repairs that could have been done to improve the hotel. The one thing that i can't fault is the bar area and the restaurant. The food is great quality and the bar area is a very nice area to sit. All in all i had a great time but with a little more money being spent in key areas then this would be a lovely hotel.

The Hallmark HotelWe stayed at the Hallmark hotel for a weekend (23rd-24th May 09), the hotel was very modern and clean just what we wanted, staff were friendly and each room was well equiped with a plasma! what more could you ask for. Breakfast wasn't that special but it never is in hotels, would definatly stay in this hotel again, makes a change it's not all floral wallpaper and carpets!

DOESN'T LIVE UP TO INTERNET PHOTOGRAPHSMy husband & I stayed at Hallmark Bournemouth for one night on Friday 8th May prior to attending our daughter's birthday party on the Saturday. We had a 3 hr drive from the Midlands and thought at least by driving on the Friday we would be rested and would enjoy the party more. However, we were woken at 3.30am on Saturday morning by ? Plumbing/boiler coming on (room #47) we tried to get back to sleep but eventually the noise grew so bad it was vibrating the pipes in our room and we called the Night Manager to see what could be done eventually at 6am the noise subsided to a bearable level but by this time all thoughts of getting back to sleep were long gone. Breakfast was adequate - the usual; make your own toast and help yourself to congealed fried egg etc. Reception had taken payment on arrival and so we had no negotiating power on check-out. Our complaint was handled with blase attitude of \"the boiler isn't meant to come on until 5am - sorry !\" So we were awakened at 3.30 am instead of 5am ! A small percentage refund would have been an acceptable gesture but nothing was forthcoming. So our advice is do not stay here unless you have to - I am sure other rooms would have also been affected. If you must stay here, ask about the \"quiet rooms\" and do not pay until check-out !

Cosy and modern hotel - we would stay here again. We stayed at the Hallmark Hotel & Spa for one night whilst on a visit to Bournemouth, having booked at last minute. The facilities were fantastic - residents were provided with full use of the spa (including a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, relaxation lounge and subsidised treatments) and the bar was relatively lively, but very comfortable. Our en-suite room was beautiful despite being quite small and cosy, and had recently been refurbished. The cleanliness of the hotel and the room was to a very high standard and the staff helpful. The receptionist we checked in with went out of her way to allow us to check in early, and the other members of staff we came into contact with were friendly. I would definitely stay at the hotel again; it helped to make our stay pleasurable and was good value for money.

Excellent hotel The hotel represents excellent value for money. Great location being only a 10 minute walk to the beech, shops, restaurants and bars. The hotel also has fantastic facilities and the rooms are decorated to a very high standard. The service was also brilliant, the staff do everything they can to help. I will certainly use the hotel in the future. I have already recomended this hotel to friends!

Hotel was clean, room was too small, very noisy from people upstairs and doors banging in the morning, room 52 the bathroom fan stays on for ages and the bathroom light above the sink didnt go off at all so had to take the bulb out otherwise light came into room at night even with door shut as room was so small.

Relaxing and comfortable hotelOur first room was top floor in the eaves, and so tiny we could only just about walk around the bed, very claustrophobic. Called reception and they moved us immediately to a gorgeous room on the first floor. Hotel was still undergoing finishing touches, builders still in evidence but not enough to influence our stay. New carpets everywhere and freshly painted, new beds and linen and fresh clean bathrooms. Maid service was excellent, reception staff were friendly, courteous and professional, bar staff were friendly and relaxed with great local knowledge. We had a plate from the tapas bar (£2) each night with our drinks which was delicious. The bar area was decorated in reds, browns and soft greens and had a warm bistro feel with soft lighting. A perfect way to unwind or to begin your evening before heading out into Bournemouth. We were away celebrating our first wedding anniversary and picked this hotel for it's 'spa' facilities. However, we were bitterly disappointed that there were no available appointments on ANY of the three days we stayed there, apparently because there were hen partys staying at the hotel who had booked the 'hen package' of treatments. I strongly recommend booking treatments at the same time that you make your hotel reservation to avoid disappointment. The spa pool was chilly but we later learned there was a problem with the heating that day. However, the main swimming pool more than made up for that, it was warm, clean and bright.Although the spa area is small, it is perfectly formed with a super steam room, sauna, aromatherapy cave, jacuzzi, ice zone and the most wonderful relaxation room.

Good weekend but...We had a really good weekend staying at the Hallmark, the general facitilities are good, and the food is great!! The only problem was that the shower didn't work in the room, however we could use the bath- seems like quite a basic thing to get wrong... but after talking though the issues with the hotel we were given a discount that we were happy with.
