My husband and I never got the opportunity to stay at the Duck Inn, but they were able to keep our money. On June 3, 2009 at 5:00 a.m. MT I called the Duck Inn to inform them that we needed to cancel our reservations for three nights starting on July 6, 2009. This was due to my husband’s mother being admitted to the hospital with a fatal diagnosis. We were asked to come to the hospital as soon as possible, yet I took the time to call the Duck Inn as well as several other hotels to cancel our reservations before leaving for the hospital. On July 6, 2009 at approximately 6:00 p.m. she passed away. During this time I had sent an email to the Duck Inn explaining the situation as I was asked to do by the person who accepted my cancellation. In this email I asked that they notify me if my first night charge of $170.50 would be refunded. To date I have not received any communication from them yet they have charged my credit card $170.50 but more upsetting is the unprofessional manner we were treated. Approximately one week after my mother-in-laws funeral my husband called and spoke with the manager at the Duck Inn. He was told in a very manner of fact attitude that it was corporate policy of a 30 day cancellation notice with no exceptions. We understand that often hotels are not notified of cancelled plans and that they do have to incorporate policies to help avoid revenue loss. What I do not understand is how the Duck Inn could be the only hotel that we had reservations with during our two weeks of travel through Montana that exhibited no understanding over us not being able to give 30 days notice. My husband even asked if it would be possible for some kind of discount as we plan to take our trip next summer. No offer was made. As we plan on taking this trip next summer, we definitely will never stay at the Duck Inn due to their merciless policy and attitude. We do plan on staying at the other hotels who so graciously understood our situation.

We stayed at the duck in for 7 nights an really enjoyed the Whitefish River out in front of our room. We fished, kyacked and swam there. The owners were very helpful to guide us to the best places to eat and hike. It was the best vacation we ever had.
