Choose from a wide range of watersports and activities at these beaches or just browse among shops, galleries and eateries. Aboriginal Experiences Aboriginal traditions are an important part of the history of this region. The Aboriginal culture is presented for visitors at the multi-award winning Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, just north of Cairns. Visitors can interact with the members of the Aboriginal community, learn about bush foods and medicines, and see a corroboree. Kuku Yalanji people of the Mossman George guided tours are also available to gain an insight into local Aboriginal culture and traditions. Wildlife parks and tours Tropical North Queensland is well known for its fauna, and the region's native species are showcased at many parks, farms and sanctuaries throughout the area. Two of the most prominent are wild World between Cairns and Port Douglas, and Rainforest Habitat at Port Douglas. Both offer varied experiences for visitors. Skyrail Cable Cars and Scenic Rail Skim over the rainforest canopy on the Skyrail cable cars from Cairns to the village of Kuranda, then enjoy the spectacular sights as you meander back down the mountains on the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway. Both are musts for the visitor who wants to experience the true beauty and incredible scenery of this amazing area. Beyond Port Douglas The region's thriving sugar industry has its' heart at Mossman, just north of Port Douglas. Mossman also boasts the closest and most accessible rainforests to Port Douglas - Mossman Gorge, with its swimming holes and walking tracks. Beyond Mossman is the township of Daintree where guests can cruise the Daintree River and view its diverse flora and fauna. Atherton Tablelands A drive to the picturesque Atherton Tablelands is like a step back in time - rolling green hills dotted with charming villages and lush farmlands. A wide range of crops as well as cattle are farmed on the Tablelands so the landscape is diverse. Ideal for a leisurely drive and the chance to browse in the shops and galleries and sample some fine local fare. Sports, fishing and adventure Sports—adventure and otherwise—are plentiful in the North. Port Douglas has tow high class golf courses while the Cairns region has others. Game fishing is a northern speciality as are other sports such as white water rafting, bungy jumping, parasailing and other water sports. Hire bicycles for a closer view of this region, go horseriding, kayaking, or take the easy way on a motorcycle tour, hot air balloon ride, helicopter or tiger moth flight. Historic Cooktown and Cape Tribulation Just south of Daintree, a car ferry will take you across to Cape Tribulation National Park which features spectacular rainforest, pristine beaches and boardwalks.
