A jewel of a hotel recently refurbished to an incredibly high standard.Stunning hotel with one of the best indoor pools and spa in the UK. The quality of the carpentry is something to behold. Staff are relatively new but very keen to please. The only criticisms would be the background piano music (sounds like Richard Clayderman) which plays on a loop throughout the hotel every day. Not good over breakfast, doing e-mails, swimming, or going to the loo! Apart from that, this is a very special hotel and highly recommended. I would also question the hotel's policy of allowing a family with small children in to the restaurant after 8PM when as a couple willing to pay over £100 for dinner for two with wine, we are trying to get away from such noise.

Short Break In NorthumberlandWe had a very enjoyable stay and I can strongly recommend this hotel. The only quibble I have is that there isn't a bar.

The room was superb, the grounds large and beautiful, the swimming pool excellent. The staff were helpful and we liked the fact that the owner himself came to each table at dinner to have a chat with his guests. He's rightly proud of the woodwork and the furniture, which is magnificent. Our only minor criticisms; the evening meal, though good, was on the expensive side, and one or two of the catering staff were either inexperienced or daydreaming; we were brought the wrong breakfasts and had to send them back. When they finally came they were good, though the portions could have been more generous. Breakfast too would have been expensive if one was on a room-only tariff. But we'll certainly stay there again.

Doxford Hall - another Angel of the NorthWe often find hotel beds too small and uncomfortable. Not at Doxford Hall. The bed was kingsize and very comfortable. The hotel is new and very clean. The staff were very helpful.Only slightly adverse comment was that the restaurant was expensive for the quality of the meal - which was good but not exceptional.

As before when we have here everything was of a very high quality. If its peace and quiet you want then this is the hotel for you. Its was busy when we arrived. This was due to people eating in the restaurant. There were a couple of things that need to be addressed. The piped music was quite loud and could be heard in the bedrooms and the steam room wasn't working properly. Other than that we enjoyed our stay and will return again (hopefully) soon

A Weekend of Piped Piano Music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Beautiful hotel and furnishings, all done to a very high standard. Still too new as had no atmosphere or focus, no bar only a "drawing room" for tea. Dinner menu very good and excellent food but over priced and too formal, not sure what the hotel is trying to be, spa centre, wedding venue, business meetings? Two nights were enough, the piped music, played without pause was horrible and intrusive.

really excellentOne of the best hotels that I have stayed in recently. Spacious and well appointed rooms and very friendly staff. Only had breakfast but that was good too. Plenty to do in the local area. Well signposted from A1 north but less so if coming from the south. Highly recommended.

Great location, great hotel great fooda little gem, hidden away. The only complaint is that they have oak floors throughout the hotel. Expect to hear high heels clicking away on the hallways of the hotel.Other than that it was perfect, and will be better when the spa actually opens.

Very relaxing breakDoxford Hall is a great place for a short break getaway. it is situated in quite an isolated spot away from the hustle & bustle of the nearby seaside resorts although it's only a short drive to some of the UK's best beaches. The room was great with plenty of space and the hotel in general was well looked after. The only odd thing was the changing facilities in the pool/spa area. There was a lack of instructions to the unisex changing rooms. We did noetice a few confused expressions from pool users! We also had dinner on my girlfriend's birthday which was fantastic. The food, although priced at the higher end, was great with excellent flavour. I don't know what the atmosphere would be like in the dining room if there were only a couple of tables booked as it is quite big.Doxford Hall is well worth a vist.

May 2009 weekend visitThe restaurant menu is adequate but choices limited by availability of produce! It needs more variety and is expensive to a captive audience. If you want afternoon tea make sure you arrange a suitable table before hand or you will be behind the Sunday lunch visitors. Nice grounds to walk in and relax. No sky sports on the television or radio. No fridge in the room. The staff were very attentive and professional.

Lovely hotel with excellently appointed room. The room I thought was good value; although the food was undoubtedly very nice it was also expensive- in essence we spent more on food/wine than we did on two nights accommodation. However, the staff were lovely, the pool area was very nice and we would undoubtedly return again once the spa is open.

Beautiful Hotel No bar. This is a lovely peaceful place to stay .Its a bit out of the way and took some finding , The staff are very helpful, courteous, and friendly nothing is too much trouble. The food was good but a bit too rich for me ,we would have liked some plainer alternatives. No bar, so not good if you want to socialise, but this is to be changed., A new hotel ,which will get better in time.Worth a visit so well restored .You will be made to feel special ,and welcomed

The hotel did not appear to have a bar area, but had a drawing room instead. This seems a bit formal . The result of this meant that we went out for a drink when I would have preferred to stay within the grounds . I did not fancy a waiter service .The dining room was rather subdued and it did not appeal , so again we went out for our evening meal. This meant that on both nights we were in bed for 10pm.The hotel itself was excellent and good value for money and the staff were extremely accomodating.

beautiful hotel (both accomodation and gardens). Formal evening dining was very nice - warm friendly environment and excellent food = very filling and a bit pricy but there is the option of a lighter meal in the drawing roomstaff were generally friendly. A couple of minor service issues - e.g. forgotten bottle of wine one meal - but nothing to detract from a very pleasent stay

Weekend BreakThe hotel has very recently undergone extensive renovations which have been done to the highest standard and using the best materials, especially the wooodwork which gives the hotel a feeling of luxury. The staff were all extremely polite, friendly and attentive at all times. The food was excellent, served in a lovely dining room full of atmosphere especially when the fire was lit.Lovely swimming pool. The gardens, including a maze, have been well done and will be lovely when more mature.Great place for a wedding!

Fantastic retreat - no spa yet!I booked Doxford Hall as an early birthday gift for my wife. We spent three beautiful days there during the Easter break. The hotel was very elegant with a high degree of craftsmanship wherever you looked. The staff were, on the whole, very friendly and informative. There were a couple of things not made clear on the website however, which should probably be flagged up.1. Evening meal and entertainment: The restaurant is fantastic and the food divine, but the menu was quite limited and if you didn't want the a la carte every night you would have to settle for room service (which offered a light meal selection) or a quick jaunt down the road to The Packhorse (a lovely village pub with real ale and good food at reasonable prices). Drinks were served in the Drawing Room at the hotel but only a wine list was offered. There was no bar except in the function room downstairs (I presume this was only open for weddings). We were also sad to see that the menu mentioned a dress code for the restaurant (something not mentioned on the website) and although we were both smart for the evening, we did feel a little self-conscious after reading this.2. The Spa is still non-existent. Surely you should not be advertising your hotel as a Spa Hotel if there are no facilities. As the break had been a special treat for my wife she was looking forward to a bit of pampering.3. I think this has been mentioned by a previous guest but piped music in the corridors throughout the day and into the evening smacks a bit of Crossroads. If this is supposed to be a high-end hotel then why not have a high-end sound system installed in the rooms. We had to turn the television on to drown out Richard Clayderman. So all in all, Doxford Hall was a beautiful place to stay and, as we were fortunate to get a good deal, excellent value. However, at the moment I would baulk at paying the full rate. There are still a few improvements that could be made before this is a truly worl

Fantastic ExperianceWithout doubt one of the very best Hotels and value for money we have ever experienced. This hotel is exceptional and you will not be disapointed. The decor and furnishings are top notch.Only points of improvements would be a bar, internt service and more information available in the room on the area. Very small points to an outstanding place to stay.
