Stayed in a 2 bedroom chalet. Very clean. Full kitchen. Grocery store on site. Very convenient if you have children. Lots of stuff for the kids to do - waterpark, playpark, hikes around the facility. Will definitely go again.

The room was clean, quiet and very accomodating for a family of four. The children loved the waterpark and it was great to have a little store on site. Very well maintained and the staff was awesome! Will recommend this resort and will be returning! We vacation in Banff at least once a year!

We felt the hotel was ideal. The location just outside of the crowded Banff town center was perfect. Your room key shown to the bus driver is good for free travel throughout the entire Banff area. The water slide is great for young and old alike. The desk clerk was very helpful with suggestions for hikes, gas, groceries and getting around.

Our second stay and we will stay again. Indoor and outdoor playground, kiddie pool and 2 waterslides the kids loved it all. Kitchenette allowed us to feed the kids whenever without waiting at a busy restuant. Nice trails right at the hotel, great view, and we had a large deck for the kids to play on.

The fun center for the children closed early for us. We returned to the hotel just after eight and it was closed or closing at 8:30. When we left the first day and returned the curtains were open and lights were on. The room was awesome and the beds were great.

The rooms are small but clean and have a wood burning fireplace in them with free firewood. We had a one bedroom. The hotel is about a 1/2 mile out of town, but we preferred that, since we didn't want to be in the hub of things. The nice thing is that you can catch the bus into town and it is free if you show your room key. The bus stop is right across the street. The hotel has an awesome tube slide & pool for kids, and also has a laundry and small grocery store & liquor store on site. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable, basic place to stay where you can cook your meals in-house, I definately recommend the Douglas Fir Resort.

I have stayed here a number of time single with the girl friend and now with the wife and kids age 7 and 5. When single we appreciated the cozy chalet type accomodations, Now with kids the pool and waterslides are the big thing. A great break from the city and an opportunity to spend some famlily time.

During a 10 day road trip with 3 kids this is where the kids wished we spent the whole vacation. Indoor pool open until 10:00pm and the waterslide pools open until 9:00 pm. The murphy bed was very comfortable so the kids got the loft and we got the murphy bed to relax and watch TV after they were in bed. We could do touristy things (gondola was a hit, get discount through the resort!) and still keep our promise of going swimming in the evening! Nice to have kitchen available since the meal prices in the resort town were insane! Did our laundry while at the pool one evening, grabbed a bottle of wine at the little store and put the kids to bed exhasted! Drive to downtown Banff in 5 minutes and see what you need to see. I did not think it was that important to be within walking distance to downtown, especially with younger kids. There were only so many hours of shopping they could take! There is a cow store downtown that has the best ice cream and cute cow themed things. Hope this helps! I know I toiled over the decision of where to stay, but the kids made a point to tell me "this is the best place on earth!" (ages 9, 4 and 2)

We had heard about the Douglas Fir through a friend for their huge playground for kids - it was awesome! My two little boys (both under 7) begged to go every morning! And what a delight - mom can just sit there and relax - it was wonderful. The rooms were very spacious and clean and it was great to have a full kitchen - with a small family it was nice to be able to grab some food at the local shop and cook at home sometimes. Great place for families on a bit of a budget!

I have stayed at the DFR many times, both when I was a youth with my parents, with my then-boyfriend and my now-fiancee. We have been pleased both times we stayed and plan to marry in Banff and stay at the DFR while there. Staff was caring, clean and friendly.

Booked because of the indoor playground which was impressive but the hotel should have spent their money on better cleaning training and some customer service seminars. Room was disgusting, staff seemed not to care. We left and check in across the street at Tunnel Mountain where they seemed to appreciate our business. Stay Away From DFR

"I added a day trip to the Canadian Rockies to a recent business trip to Calgary. I was pleasantly surprised by the Douglas Fir Resort. The room was very nice and in a very beautiful setting. There were deer enjoying an early morning breakfast right outside of my room. My only complaint was about the air conditioning....there was a room unit, but it did not work well...the room became stuffy during the night....there was no was to securely open a door to get fresh air in the room. It was a minor incovenience. "

"magnificient view of rockies, from beautiful studio apartment with full kitchen, bath, even fireplace, and garage parking, at a good price"

"Rustic feel, kitchenette and free firewood. Good space in the studio. All at a reasonable price. You do need a car to get to downtown (5 min drive). Also free Internet!! We are going back again. Not 5 stars cause underground parking space is very tight. But I suppose in the winter time, its a good thing to have."
