Dorado Pacifico is a nice hotel for many reasons. Its location along Ixtapa's main beach was what sold me. Admittedly, the surf is a bit rough for smaller children but for those who enjoy the waves there is nothing better. The hotel is showing its age a bit but given the price and the location it is easy to forgive the small blemishes. There are a few restaurants on site that are convenient and the food is average. Not going to make you sick but not why you came to Mexico if you like food. They are a nice alternative to carrying cash since you can charge everything to your room and pay when you checkout with a credit card. Hotel restaurant service is what I would describe as typical for Mexico (This being my third trip and sixth city that I have visited). No one is in a hurry to get you anything but as long as you are patient and relaxed, which you should be on your vacation anyway, there is nothing to complain about there. The front desk staff were eager to please and the maid service was excellent although they did forget to replace the coffee in our room. When I asked for a fan in my room because the AC was lackluster and it showed up within an hour, which is phenomenal. All rooms have an ocean view although I would call my room more of a partial ocean view. Beds were not overly plush but after all day in the sun they were comfortable enough for me. The location of the hotel (along the main road in Ixtapa) puts most shops and restaurants within a five minute walk. I would highly recommend dining off property whenever possible and avoid the all inclusive package since there are many good restaurants in the area. I spent most my time on the beach, soaking up the sun and swimming. I explored the shopping area across the road in about 30 minutes but Zihuatanejo is a quick cab ride away and has a lot more to do. There is also a golf course nearby and people on the beach rent jet skis and para-sailing trips. Sadly, Ixtapa lacks beach vendors due to a local law that pro

We stayed here just one night because we were not starting our timeshare until Saturday. We had so much more fun here in one night that the whole week at the time share. Great swim up bar, friendly staff, fun activities and great weather. It is just a great place to stay.

All of the staff are friendly and efficient. Our 2 rooms were ready when we arrived. The lobby is open and attractive. Our rooms were not luxurious, but were nicely furnished and sufficiently spacious, with small, but comfortable balconies with ocean-view. It was only a little disorienting that our pool view was of the hotel next door, and our wi-fi connected us through that hotel's system. The washrooms are large and attractive with a large, really nice floor to ceiling shower enclosure. The pool is great, with a consistent 4 ft. depth. At one end, one can swim to the bar, where the depth becomes shallow, so that you can have a beverage while staying in the pool. The only 2 drawbacks are that, in Aug., the heat and humidity are intense, and the upstairs corridors are all glass-enclosed and not air-conditioned. Just by going from our room to the lobby downstairs, I was sweating so profusely that I could have easily returned to the room to shower again. The other negative is the food service. The restaurants and bars are attractive, but the food is expensive and low in quality and quantity. We rarely drink, but decided to have one cocktail each. The Bloody Mary, which is not a difficult drink to make, was awful. The beach is beautiful to look at, but the waves are strong and rough in this area, and hardly anyone entered the water. However, overall, this hotel was a delightful experience for a group of five people, ranging in ages from 74 to 1 yr. old. We highly recommend this hotel, but strongly suggest that you eat and drink elsewhere, and go to a beach in nearby Zihuatanejo, such as La Playa de las Gatas or La Playa de la Ropa, where the water is tranquil in a beautiful bay setting.

The missing something for us was dancing. Would be nice to have dancing at least on weekend. We have a 1 year old and cannot go to the clubs outside of the hotel so if there is a chance to dance salsa by the pool would be great. And for those who cannot dance would be nice to have a teacher. Make the place more fun in the evening!

The hotel is funky... not well maintained. Beds are hard, sheets are scratchy. Air conditioning didn't cool as much as I'd have liked. The elevators didn't work well. They would frequently stop on a floor not marked for stopping & one time it stopped at every floor. The pool & hotel need an overhaul or at least some maintaining - paint etc. Service by staff is fairly good. Surprisingly the food there was pretty good - cost too much though. The location is good, the beach is nice, people are friendly.

This was our second time back within a 6 mo. period, this time it was my 8yr old Daughters birthday and I must say it was her favorite so far. The hotel treated her like a Queen!!! They sent her fresh fruit to the room in the Morning, steansiled "Happy Birthday" on her bed in 6in letters, anounced it to every one at the pool and waited for us to go up to our room so they could bring her a Birthday cake and sing Happy Birthday to her. She was in Heaven the entier stay, and like our stay in Nov. of 07, everyone was awsome!!!! My family and I could'nt say enough good things about the Dorado Pacifico so why try. I did notice that about a third of the rooms were being renovated and as far as not getting a spot at the pool, Big Deal, drop your stuff on the pool wall and go for it, enjoy everything they have to offer, the time goes by VERY slow. Don't forget to see the aligators swimming around the marina just down the street either. FYI: your cell phone only works if YOU want it to, thats the best part. So, will we return? give us a few mos. then YES, we'll be back without a doubt.

Since coming from PV to Ixtapa, we have stayed at several hotels on the beach. We always return to the Dorado Pacifico. The employees are the best, especially [...] and [...]. Sorry there are many more but their names do not come to me. The maiter d in the restaurant is possible the best on the strip. His version of Mexican coffee is quite a show. The office staff and all else, treat you almost as family. This tells me that the ownership has a handle on the proper treatment of customers. Thank-you again for a wonderful vacation in Mexico.

We especially liked the central location to the restaurants and shopping in Ixtapa. The pool area is also very good. During the day they always had some activities such as water aerobics, water volleyball, etc. On most days the waves on the beach were to strong to swim in the ocean. The room was clean but could use an upgrade. Especially the shower curtain. It was a bit funky. The beds were hard as a rock. We never had a bad meal or snack and the staff was always very quick and helpful. If I stay there again I would try a suite. Might offer a bit more room and a refrigerator.

The hotel is 25-years old, but is still in decent shape. Every room (literally) has at least some ocean view. This was my third trip to Mexico and it was by far the best. The staff was friendly, the maids were honest. My wife and daughter left their gold rings and earrings laying around, nothing was ever missing. Take a trip to Zihuatanejo, its flea market is a blast. We did, and it was perfectly safe.

Loved everything about our stay. Yes there are people on the beach trying to sell you stuff and others are at the pool getting a chair with an unbrella befor you, but so what. The people of the Dorrado were GREAT. The hotel is located across the street from everything. No need for a rental car. We were there in November and going back in May and cant wait!!! They have baby turtles that the kids get to let go at certain times of the month plus lots of other kid related activitys, a must stay at the Dorrado.

This is our second visit to Dorado Pacifico. Our vacation was one week starting 04/03/09 (Spring Break). Weather was amazing, around mid-80's. Taxi from the airport to the hotel was $25.00 for 3 persons, then later I found out other taxi's (different company) charge 150 pesos (that's about $12.00 or so). Currency during that week was 13 pesos to $1.00, and fluctuated by a fraction or two. Hotel exchanged for 13 pesos, but the bank just across the street (Santander) exchanged for 13.2, and other times up to 13.45 pesos. (so of course I went to the bank.) Speaking of across the street, there are restaurants such as Lobster House (a little pricy), Rafaelo's (not too bad), but there are many other restaurants that are very very reasonable, compared to the hotel restaurants (example a chicken or shrimp fajita at a local restaurant was about 75 pesos), There are a few ice cream shops, there are a couple of tobacco shops, Senior Frog's, super market, and of course the flea market. To the left of the hotel there is Christina's night club. All these venues are probably the stretch of not more than 3 U.S. blocks. The snacks and drinks in the hotel room are very inviting, but we did not touch them as they were triple the price compared to buying them from the super market just a block away. Our room had a beautiful ocean view with a peak of the pool area. We were on the 14th floor. There are 4 elevators. The have smoking and non-smoking floors. Staff is friendly and professional. Beach is clean, no seaweeds. I looked forward to walking on the beach every evening with my daughter. We went on a 7-hour fishing trip, rented a private boat from Zihuatanejo.. ($190.00 for up to 4 persons on the boat) we had a great time and yes we caught a lot of fish. It was fun. (dont' forget to take with you water shoes) We did not buy the all inclusive because I did not want to feel constricted in having to eat only what the hotel had to offer. It actually turned out great not to buy the all inc

"Loved the hotel. Very clean and comfortable. The beach is very clean and great for walks. They have music playing in the bar till 11pm which made it difficult to sleep as the hotel is set up like an atrium, so the music echoed. "

"my second time to Ixtapa, first at the Dorado. True a lot of people race down at 6 am to get 'best chair' but there are plenty to go around. You just may not get an unbrella unless you camp out...Ixtapa and Zihuatanajo are beautiful. Weaher fantastic. Staff great. Pool has great atmosphere."

They were/are doing renovations so only one restaurant was open. Several things were not in maintenance in the room and the room was warm a/c not cooling much...so I imagine that they get everything working by their season which is December to March/April. The staff are very friendly, location is good and most rooms have oceanview with balcony which I like. This is in Hotelzone and the main town of Zihuatanejo is about 15 mins by cab..

The service and cleanliness was very good. The breakfast buffet had a wonderful variety of fresh fruits and juices, the food was delicious. The presentation and variety of lunch and dinner was also very good. Lots of activities for families with children. The massage center was excellent. The only thing that the hotel did not have and I wish it would have was a fitness center. Other than that the it is a wonderful place to stay.

"The hotel was clean, but the pool situation is crazy. People get up as early as 4:00 AM to start reserving chairs. Evidently, shortly before I arrived, the staff limited the chair reservations to 6:00 AM. So, as I laid in bed at 6:00 AM, I could hear the bells of the elevator as everyone was going to the pool to reserve their chair. Other reviews complain about the chairs and I didn't heed their advise. It really is miserable to go to the hotel and literally not be able to get a lounge chair at the pool - but that is the reality at this place."
