Rooms very updated modern.. small space needed a chair to relax in not just a bed to sit in

This hotel was fantastic! It is within walking distance of just about everything including the monuments and plenty of restaurants. Georgetown is just a quick cab ride away. The service was spectacular as was the room. The staff was amazing; greeting us coming and going. This included the lobby, door guy and valet service. My only suggestion is that these hotels provide free wireless access. I think it makes more sense to increase the price of the room by $ than to ask me to pay for wireless service these days!!

We liked that the hotel was new. The carpet was clean, which was a plus w/ a little baby crawling all around (they even vacuum it during the day, picking up anything on the floor). There was even bed-turn-down service w/ chocolates. Very retro feel, which was different, yet a nice change from your standard hotel. It's a great location as far as DC goes--you can walk to all the locations fairly easily. It's easy to find any type of dining along the way. The pool was fun--on top of the hotel. The staff was super nice---even to the point of catching us on the way out to tell us it was going to rain soon. They even looked up the weather for us, armed us w/ a map and huge umbrella. Parking was 35 a night, which I guess in DC isn't too obsurd. We'd much rather pay that than to try to park in DC! Overall, it was a great experience, and I'd recommend the hotel to anyone who'd like to try something a little different!

Hotel was nice and everyone on staff could not have been nicer or more helpful

I stayed here when they first opened earlier this year and then decided to try again. While not perfect, it is a nice hotel and if you watch travel website, you can get a luxury room for a reasonable price. The upside is that the staff is accomodating and the rooms well appointed (in a NY modern kind of way) and very, very clean. The downsides is no internal bar or restaurant yet...they say the beautiful roof top spot will open later this year...and room service takes a very long time (over an hour) but food was fine. Workout facility is adequate.

Wonderful customer service. The staff is very friendly and willing to help in any way they can. The entire place is spotless. The pool on the top floor of the hotel is small, but the view is incredible. The only downside is that there currently is no restaurant on site (room service takeout is available but pricey). The room is very nicely done with a very modern decor. The hi-def TV and cocoon shower were very nice. In addition, there is valet parking available (expensive, but parking is pricey all over DC) and the Metro is only a few blocks away. I would definitely stay there again.

The Donovan Hotel is a great hotel. It is quite different than of many of the other hotels that any person has ever walked into. Donovan House offers a new stylish hotel with a modern twist. Every inch of the hotel is designed with elaborate consideration of modernistic flavors. The hotel is walking distance for great sightseeing (eg. The White House, Washington Monument, and may local shopping areas). It is also a couple blocks away from the metro (Train Station), so for travelers who don't want to pay for an arm an a leg for transportation, the metro is the way to go. Overall, Donovan House is great new place to relax, feel like your in a modern chic hotel, and walking to see what Washington D.C. has to offer is minutes away!

It was really nice than we expect! Simple, modern, nice design and clean!! I stayed 2days and bed was really clean and comfortable so I didn't want to get up in the morning. People are kind, nice pool and I liked the place a lot. White House is also walking distance and 20's 30's age people really love that hotel!

The hotel is two months old. The staff was coureous, friendly and always called us by our name. It is approx. one mile from the Washington monuments,White House,National Archives, and Mall so walking was easy. The hotel does not have a restaurant currently, but is working on a roof bar. Many affordable restaurants are within walking distance and the staff was eager to help us select one. The roof pool was lovely with chilled lemon and orange water available during pool hours. We did not use the fitness center. Room service is pricey. Although a full ice bucket and chocolate was provided with turn down service, ice at other times was only available through room service. A single serve coffee or tea maker is provided in the room and both are offered in the lobby each morning. The atmosphere is serene and calm. The rooms are fresh, spotless, contemporary and very comfortable. The shower was unusual in design and fun. A fresh orchid held in place by black pebbles in a clear sguare glass vase was placed on our bedside table alongside the IHome. The staff did their best to make our stay memorable and it was.

Staff was great to work with. Reservatons were not correct when we arrived. Hotel was nice, but not as glamorous as the pictures on the website. Pool had weird hours. We did not have a room with the cool shower as indicated in the photo's on the web. They did upgrade us to a king bed after snafu with reservations.

My experience here was the exception, I hope, but so much of it was based on the rooms themselves that I can't imagine the great ratings posted previously. As a business traveller, I need a desk - not at this hotel in either room I stayed in! Plugs? Dream on! Good lighting? None. Appropriate task seating? Missing. Cheap and tacky lighting abound - none of it is EFFECTIVE lighting, however! I was first in a room that was better than the second, but above the construction area for the new restaurant - no rest past 7:30 a.m. They moved me after a long discussion - to a room with one of their cocoon showers. If you plan to actually get CLEAN, this cutesy plastic swirl will not do it: the showerhead is directly OVER your head - how water can hit your body, I don't know. Give me a tub/shower any day. The ugly cocoon shower wall obstructs a good deal of the room, and is translucent besides (I'm not into playing silhouettes, thanks!) The roof pool was tiny and crowded, but cute - no bar or soft drink service. No ice machines on floors - must call and ask (and tip) because twice-daily stocking of it doesn't do it (tiny containers, loads of fast-melt!) The staff's directions were unhelpful ("Just go across to the Westin" - when you cannot see it from the hotel around the circle!) The Metro is a brisk 4-block trot away - in summer, not back but in winter? I don't think so. Price was fair for D.C., especially with the online travel website's air/hotel package - hotel is not business-traveler friendly - for the trendy types, may be OK, but given terrible room layouts/lighting, I wouldn't even think that could be true.

This is a great hotel! I stayed here for two nights on business and couldn't have been happier. First, it's about a four block walk from the McPherson Square Metro stop. The hotel was very trendy and artsy. I didn't know if I would like it at first, but it works. I had a king sized bed. There was a 32" HDTV in the room complete with HD channels (nice). My room was not huge, but not too small either. Donovan House, being a newer hotel, all the furniture was newer too. The patterns and color were bold, again it was nice. I had a floor to ceiling window and the whole place was very classy. Stay away from the mini-bar, very pricey. There was no free breakfast as stated on another site, but there was free coffe in the room and lobby. I checked out the pool and fitness room. The pool is small on the rooftop and is only open from 7-7. The fitness center is small, but the equipment is firstclass. There were 4 treadmills, 1 recumbent bike, and 2 elipticals. Every one had a little flat screen and headphones. There was also a full set of dumbells and a bench in the room. Finally the staff was very friendly and looked to accomodate all my needs. I really have nothing bad to say about Donovan House and whole heartedly recommend it to anyone. I travel very frequently and I hope to stay there again. Two thumbs up Donovan House!!!

This review is being written after my *second* stay at the hotel. A couple of things were vastly different on this stay than my first. First, it took over 6 hours for a room to be ready for my check-in. I had arrived on an early flight and while I realize that hotels can't accommodate everyone promptly, I was surprised at the duration of the delay. On my first stay, I had arrived at the same time and given my room promptly. I was a bit disappointed that the staff was not more attentive about the delay. I had to ask several times about the room status; I would have expected the staff to be more proactive with regards to customer satisfaction and at least give me an update every couple of hours. Second, this trip I had the misfortune of staying in one of the rooms that hasn't undergone a complete renovation. Several of the room features were either missing or in need of repair. Of particular note was the lack of an air conditioning in the room (the room unit was actually lacking a motor for the A/C). In defense of the hotel staff, they immediately sent an engineer to investigate the issue. Upon determining the root cause, we were immediately given a new room without hassle. Third, my final room assignment was nice while a bit small. However, they do a good job of optimizing the space usage. Unfortunately, this room had a leak between the shower and the main sleeping area. This resulted in a soggy carpet around the bathroom perimeter. Finally, despite the Orbitz advertisment, this hotel does *NOT* have free internet access and charges $10/day for wireless access. I'm sorry, but there is *NO* excuse for a modern hotel to not have free internet access in this day and age. If low-end motels can offer free wi-fi, so can the Donovan House. In conclusion, I'd suggest staying in the other hotels in the area within the same price range. When Donovan first opened, it was priced comparatively cheaper and was worth the smaller rooms for the savings. Now that the pricing is even,

Yes to excellent service, comfort, friendly and outragously helpful staff; turn down service, great rooftop pool with lemon water; convenient location to all sights. When we booked and saw that it was "Mod" I said "will this be comfortable or too hip" to enjoy ( we're late 50's... it was great!!!) Restaurants in proximity (try DC Catch) and a whole Foods opposite a Starbucks on P St about 4 blocks away, heading towards Dupont. Flat screen/HBO convenient to Georgetown and Dupont Circle. This is a walking city if you choose, but Smithsonian is 4 stops away if needed on the Metro. The circular shower is a kick and the audio and lighting is anything you want it to be when relaxing or watching. Even the TV has a great relaxing screensaver, just to relax. Great security, as you need room key to use elevator. Want to come back; hoping for a reason!

The Donovan House is a new renovation. Located 2 blocks from the Macpherson Square Metro Station, this location makes it easy to get around DC. The front desk staff was very friendly and we had no problems checking in around 12 noon. Our room was boutique modern.... very cool. Flat screen tv, leather headboard that extends into the ceiling and the cocoon shower. As cool as the cocoon shower looks, it is really not that functional and takes up too much space in the room. With a rainwater spout, you can't control the water pressure and without a door or curtain.... there is a bit of a breeze. The room size for a standard queen is rather on the European side....no room for a desk or a chair, but honestly we didn't need one. Best of all... it was quiet! There is a business center on the second floor (2 computers and 2 printers/faxes) which was great to print out our boarding passes and to MapQuest our restuarant. There is a rooftop pool and workout room, but we did not have time to see those amenities. This is a fun hotel located away from the touristy Mall of DC, but with easy access to the Metro. Staff was friendly and accomodating, hotel was clean and the bed was comfortable. Definitely not for families or with kids needing some room space. The 24-hr CVS across the street was fabulous- from late night caffeine intake to band-aids. You are in walking distance to the White House (we stumbled upon it by accident on our way to dinner!) And if you were really adventurous, you could pretty much keep going all the way to the Mall.

Love the design of the rooms and bath area. Innovative and cool. Great restaurant. Super location. Comfy bed. Wake up calls on time and made by human beings, not robocalls.

I would reccomend this place to anyone. It's right in downtown, so it's a quick walk anywhere (even the tourist attractions for those interested). The staff is wonderful and friendly. The rooms, as is the rest of the hotel, are emmaculate in cleanliness and modern design. This place is wonderful for anyone who appreciates quality accommodations or someone who wants to try staying somewhere unlike many other places. Very enjoyable! I will definitely return!

CVS Pharmacy accross the street, 3 blocks to metro, plug-in high speed internet (wireless also, although didn't use) attached bar & restaurant, nearby restaurants, quiet, bed good, very well stocked minbar.

We loved the cool modern decor - except that the cool-looking chairs were hard and uncomfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The shower was heaven. The location was great. There was no restaurant in the hotel - but we understand that they will soon be partnering with a restaurant next door. We would definitely stay again.
